REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS
Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, SEC-003 is strictly enforced. One provision of the policy
is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and Arrows. The club must
emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor
over ride this LM policy. Members wanting to store firearms or archery equipment during the day
ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (303-971-1531) for access instructions.
Call Plant Protection (7-4646) if you have an incident or injury on the range.
ADDITIONAL REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS AND RANGE USERS
Please be careful when driving on the roads, the horses may not move out of your way.
New Gate signs have been added to help make sure it is clear if the gate should be OPEN or
CLOSED.
Watch out for Rattlesnakes at the range!
If you do not have your child’s Hunter Education (HE) or Home Firearm Safety (HFS) Card
you will be turned away from being able to shoot. Run a copy of the card and present it to
the RSO the next time you are out. As these cards never expire, if you provide the copy once,
you should be Ok for the future. If you need to get a copy of your HE card, call the Division
of Wildlife or show a license that has the proof of Hunter Ed verified on it.

ARCHERY HUNTING ON PROPERTY
Archery hunting on Lockheed Martin property by SHFC members (LM & ULA employees and retirees)
and their “immediate” family has been approved by Lockheed Martin management. The boundaries and
regulations are similar to that approved for the 2012 hunting seasons. This was accomplished due to the
efforts of Tom Hanson, Tony Miller, and Matt Reetz. Safety briefings for hunting on Lockheed Martin
property will be scheduled in July and August by Jim Hargest and Jim Gilmore. All personnel wanting to
archery hunt on Lockheed Martin property are required to attend one of these briefings. SHFC personnel
are also required to have completed their SHFC work bond prior to getting an archery hunting permit
issued by plant protection.

SHFC AT 2013 NOVESKE AREA 2 MULTI GUN CHAMPIONSHIP
Six regular SHFC 3-gunners represented our club at the 2013 Noveske Area 2 Multi Gun
Championship held at the Colorado Rifle Club in Byers, Colorado on April 6th
and 7th
. The match was
close to sold out with 137 competitors that included World and National Multi Gun Champions Taran
Butler, James Casanova, Don Bednorz, Rob Romero and Eric Miller. There was even Fox 31 News
coverage at the event http://kdvr.com/2013...colo-lawmakers/. Our SHFC squad had a great time and did
quite well on the nine stages and 356 targets with Dave Hartman and James Lestina placing 8th
and 16th
overall in Limited division respectively, and Ben Walker, Walter Tang, Bill Lhotta and Nate Kralovetz
placing 24th
, 32nd
, 39th
and 62nd
overall respectively in Tactical division. Our squad also did very well at
the prize table with each person taking home prizes worth well over $200. We are fortunate to have such
a high level and well sponsored multi gun match locally here in Colorado. Unfortunately, if the new
Colorado gun laws are not repealed, this and other national level practical shooting matches that draw
many out of state competitors will no longer be held in Colorado. Photo credits go to James Lestina and
Dave Harman.

NRA CLASS SCHEDULE
Basic Pistol (BP) and Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) classes will resume in April
timeframe.
The Basic Pistol class covers all of the basics for both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. The club
provides all firearms and ammunition for this class. All you need to bring is you hearing and eye
protection. PPITH covers how to protect yourself and your family in your home with a pistol. The
student will use their own firearm for this class. Basic Pistol is a prerequisite for PPITH, so keep that
in mind when signing up. If you want to take PPITH without taking Basic Pistol first, you will need to
contact Dave Norris (303-977-8068, or email at [email protected]) and arrange to attend
Practical Pistol to demonstrate safe firearm handling and basic shooting skills prior to signing up. Each
class consists of three sessions – two weeknight classroom sessions (approx 4 hour each) and a Saturday
range session (approx 5 hours). Class fees are $50 for SHFC members and $75 for non-members.

PRACTICAL PISTOL LADIES ONLY
Practical Pistol Ladies is starting back up on April 15th, and goes every other Monday through
September. Practical Pistol Ladies takes place on non-Practical Pistol Lite Mondays from 5-7 pm. We
meet at the gate around 4:15, and head to the range no later than 4:30. Only instructors get to talk to the
Ladies, the other men have to remain silent and help with the brassing, target maintenance and score
keeping. Same format as last year, bring your semi-auto pistol and 100 rounds of ammo. All shoes need to
be closed toed and good flat bottomed shoes/boots are necessary, no sandals or other open toed shoes.
Please wear a hat with a brim/bill and pants/shorts, not skirts. I encourage all the ladies to come out and
shoot with other ladies and hone your defensive shooting skills. I hope to see you there. Call Dave Norris
at 303-977-8068, or email at [email protected]. For more information on Practical Pistol
shooting in general, please review the following PDF file:

PRACTICAL PISTOL – LITE
Practical Pistol Lite is starting back up on April 8th, and goes every other Monday through September.
For those of you who are new to Practical Pistol, this affords less experience shooters and opportunity to
come out with a group of like-minded shooters and practice defensive skills. As always we will first and
foremost focus on range safety. This year we are limiting participation to semi-automatics pistols in the
effort to speed up the courses and get more shooting for everyone. Make sure your equipment (Pistol,
Holster, Mag pouches) is in good repair and good working order. We meet at the gate around 4:15, and
head to the range no later than 4:30. Since April and May weather is so challenging, please dress in layers
so you can stay warm just in case it gets cold. There has never been a better opportunity to tune your
defensive pistol skills, and create a defensive mindset . Call Dave Norris at 303-977-8068, or email at
[email protected]. For more information on Practical Pistol shooting in general, please review

FRIDAY PRACTICAL PISTOL MATCH
The Friday night Practical Pistol Match will start this year on April 5 and will continue every week
through October. Stage set up starts at 4:30PM at the pistol range followed by shooter’s meeting at 5:00
PM. This match is open to all SHFC members, their family and guests. This weekly event is a
competitive and dynamic practical pistol shoot, which follows USPSA rules including the scoring system
placing equal considerations for speed accuracy and power. If you have no prior experience in practical
pistol shooting, attending an orientation is mandatory before participating in this event. The orientation
will stress safety and discussions covering the basic USPSA rules, scoring, stage design, gears and bullet
requirements.
If you would like to participate in this event or would like to know more about this exciting sport, contact
Benjamin Go at [email protected]. Information is also available at the SHFC website at
http://gvtg.com/skyline and go to Committees/programs, then Practical Pistol and pick either .doc or .pdf.
WEDNESDAY PRACTICAL PISTOL
Practical Pistol requires you to demonstrate effective handgun handling skills while attempting to solve
simulated defensive scenarios under the stress of a timer.
Courses are loosely based on USPSA/IDPA competition matches and safe gun handling is stressed as it is
everywhere on the SHFC range. A few of the skills covered include shooting from cover, around, over
and through concealment, on the move, out of position, weak hand only, strong hand only, reloads, target
identification drills, number of shots on target and response to voice commands (although usually not all
on the same night!). Expect to shoot around 50 rounds for record each night.
Matches are run every Wednesday night April through October, weather permitting. We will leave the
gate area around 4:30 and try to fire first shots at 5:00. Every 3rd
Wednesday one or more stages will be
shot with a shotgun and every 4th
Wednesday of the month we use .22 pistols – no draw from holster –
speed drill night.
For more information call Mike S. 7-3478.

MULTI-GUN
Multi-Gun Training Day
New club-sponsored event this year at Skyline is a series of Multi-Gun Training Days.
These sessions will consist of structured drills, repetition and practice aimed at giving the individual 3-
Gun or Multi-Gun shooter the venue and opportunity to push themselves in practice and then self-
evaluate with the aim of getting to the next level in the sport. Each day will generally focus on mastery of
one gun and we may throw in the occasional day that will require transition practice and multiple guns.
As 3-Gun is a fast-paced sport that often requires the shooter to run, shoot on the move, go prone and get
up on the clock, some basic physical fitness based exercises will be incorporated in each session. Our
goal will be to train hard at our home range and go out and compete in local, state and regional matches
at a higher level.
Schedule:
Sunrise to 9:30am on Saturday with the exception of the 4th
Saturday of each month which is the Winter
3-Gun series.
This event is open to all members and their guests that can demonstrate safe gun handling skills.
If you are new to Multi-Gun and Practical Shooting, please email to arrange a safety briefing.
To be added to the event notifications email Dave Hartman at [email protected] (1-
4791).
3-GUN
Summer 3-Gun begins in May. We shoot on the first 2 track A off-Fridays of the month from May
through October. We shoot from 1 to 4pm with setup starting about half hour before. The dates are May
10th
and 24th
; June 7th
and 21st; July 5
th and 19
th; August 2
nd and 16
th; September 13
th and 27
th; October
11th
and 25th
.
For those new to 3-gun, it is similar to our Wednesday night practical pistol except we shoot the pistol,
shotgun and semi-auto carbine/rifle for a combination of accuracy and speed. Getting bored sitting at the
bench shooting paper targets? Want to develop your action shooting skills, shoot on the move, handle
shooting under physical and mental pressure, add new dimensions to your shooting skills, refine and test
your shooting gear? 3-Gun is the game for you. Shooters of all levels are welcome. 3-Gun’s goals are
safety, skill development, fun and challenge. Shooters new to practical action shooting should call ahead
to arrange a safety briefing. Contact Walter Tang at 303-977-6474 or email [email protected] to
get on the mailing list. I usually send out the stage description before the shoot so you’ll know what to
expect and how much ammo to bring.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP STEEL DAYS
Per our range rules and agreement with LM, to mitigate fire danger risk, steel targets are only allowed for
organized club events when fire danger conditions allow. To give our general membership a chance to
enjoy the club’s steel targets and learn about the clubs practical shooting events, SHFC is having general
membership steel days on the 5th
Saturday of the month in 2013. On general membership steel days,
volunteers from the practical pistol and 3 gun squad will setup steel targets for general membership to
either plink at and/or run timed stages if they like. You’ll get a chance to shoot fun targets used in our
practical shooting events like the Texas Star or Pepper poppers, a steel challenge stage at the pistol house
or silhouette gongs at the 200/300 rifle range. We plan to start with just having either pistol or rifle steel
to start. If this becomes popular with members and we get enough volunteers, we may setup both pistol
and rifle steel on the same 5th
Saturday, fire danger conditions allowing. The dates for 2013 are: June
29th
, August 31st, and November 30
th from noon to 4 pm, fire conditions and weather permitting. This is a
supervised event with practical shooting squad members acting as ROs. Projectiles containing steel, if it
attracts a magnet, will not be allowed to help mitigate fire danger and preserve our steel targets. Also to
prevent excessive ricochet risk, wear and tear on the steel targets, only calibers typically used for practical
shooting events will be allowed. For pistol, that is up to and including the .45 ACP. For rifle, that is up
to and including .30’06. We will send updates/reminders prior to each General Membership Steel Day.
For additional information, please contact Walter Tang at 303-977-6474.
COWBOY ACTION – SASS Cowboy Action Shooting activities will start May 2, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm (non SHFC members should
be at the gate no later than 4:30pm) and will continue to be held every other Thursday until October on
the Pistol range. This should be the Thursdays for “Track B Off Fridays”. Firearms used are: 2 six
cylinder single-action pistols, a lever action rifle (pistol caliber only), and a pre-1900’s shotgun (pump or
side by side). All ammo must be lead cast bullets and lead shot. You can shoot both smokeless and/or
black powder, depending on what you prefer. We shoot in accordance with the governing body of SASS
or Single Action Shooting Society. This range time is intended to allow shooters to practice Cowboy
Action in preparation for official matches held at clubs around the country. Call Mark Bonkowski at 303-
977-3360.

finishing by noon or 1 PM. We welcome all types of high power service or match rifles; some choose to
shoot the Garand or M1A but the AR15 is the choice of most. The club has three AR15s, a Garand, two

described in the Civilian Marksmanship Program guide.
To encourage participation, SHFC will allow ANY rifle capable of firing .22 long rifle ammunition, either
bolt action, magazine fed, or, semi-automatic. Any type of sights or scopes of no more than 6 X are
allowable. (Variable power scopes which go beyond 6X, can be set to 6X max.) The match will be fired
at distances of 50 and 25 yards using paper targets and will consist of unlimited sighting shots followed
by 60 shots for record in position stages of prone, sitting or kneeling, and standing.
No special equipment is required but a spotting scope or binoculars may be helpful during the sighting
stage and a mat or carpet runner would be helpful for the prone and sitting stages. The club can provide
these if one is not handy. This event is for both beginners and experienced shooters of all ages and is a
fun, low cost activity which will definitely improve your marksmanship skills.

Chatfield has

pace as people are finally beginning to understand that if you have a little
knowledge Chatfield is a world-class fishery. Chuck Taylor has the largest
walleye this year at 31” and 10-lbs.
The group takes the boats out every Tuesday night. If you want to learn to
take the boats out this is a great time to schedule a boat walk-through and

There has been plenty of
interest in a weekly

working. If anyone is
interested in meeting up
with other fly fishermen

me know. Otherwise,
just keep sending me trip reports. The trout in the
