EligibilityEligibility

Applicants must have 35 hours of specific project management education.

With a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum three years’ professional project management experience, during which 4,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, up to eight years from the time of application.

Without a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum five years’ professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, up to eight years from the time of application.

Review the PMP credential handbook, the PMP Examination Specification and the PMP Sample Questions document.

Enroll in formal study courses• PMP Prep• Formal Course

Study the PMBOK® Guide—Fourth Edition and other texts that discuss the management of communications, cost, human resources, integration, procurement, quality, risk, scope and time, as well as a project manager's social and professional responsibilities.

ProcessProcess

Steps to Obtaining a PMP Credential:

Complete an online application or download an application and submit via mail (faxes not accepted). TIP: Complete your application offline and transfer information. TIP: 90 day window before you loose your saved data

If you meet the eligibility requirements, your application will be temporarily accepted within 5 days. After you pay, there could be a 5 day audit period. If your application is not chosen, will receive an e-mail explaining how to schedule the exam.

Individuals who attain a credential from PMI will be added to PMI's Online Credential Registry and may immediately use the credential designation after their name.

Completing the ApplicationCompleting the Application

Document projects individually regardless of the number of projects or duplication of tasks.

Experience in all five process groups (initiation, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, closing) required, but not on each & every project.

Overlapping project time cannot be documented twice.

Initiation ProcessInitiation Process

Conduct project selection methods to evaluate the feasibility of new products or service

Identify key stakeholders and perform analysis to gain buy in and requirements for the success of the project

Define the scope of the project based on the organization's need to meet the customer project expectations

Obtain project charter approval from project sponsor

Identify and document high level risks, assumptions and constraints using historical data and expert judgment

Develop the project charter and review it with key stakeholders to confirm project scope, risk, issues, assumptions and constraints

Planning Process Planning Process

Create the work breakdown structure with the team to develop the cost schedule resource quality and procurement plans.

Identify project risks to define risk strategies and develop the risk management plan

Obtain project plan approval from the customer and conduct a kick off meeting with all key stakeholders.

Define and record detail project requirements, constraints and assumptions with the stakeholders to establish the project deliverables.

Develop the change management plan to define how changes will be handled to manage the triple constraints.

Executing ProcessExecuting Process

Manage proactively the resource allocation by ensuring that appropriate resources and tools are assigned to the tasks according to the project plan

Execute the tasks defined in the project plan in order to achieve the project goals

Ensure a common understanding and set expectations through communication to align the stakeholders and team members

Implement a quality management plan to ensure that work is being performed according to require quality standards

Implement approved changes according to the change management plan

Obtain project resources in accordance with the procurement plan

Implement the approved actions and workarounds required to minimize the impact of project risks

Monitor & Control ProcessMonitor & Control Process

Measure project performance using appropriate tolls and techniques

Verify and manage changes to the project scope, project schedule costs as defined in the change management plan.

Monitor the status of all identified any new risks corrective actions and update the risk response plan.

Ensure the project deliverables conform to quality standards established in the project quality plan.

Closing ProcessClosing Process

Formalize and obtain final acceptance for the project

Identify document and communicate lessons learned.

Obtain financial, legal and administrative project closure (e.g. final payment, warranties, contact signoff)

Release all project resources and provide performance feedback.

Create and distribute final project report

Measure customer satisfaction at the end of the project.
