Bachelor’s degree• Minimum of 4500 hours of PM experience leading and

directing project tasks.• Minimum 5 years (60 months). Maximum 8 years.• Unique non-overlapping projects.

PMP Online Application

For each project:• “Please identify the organization for whom you managed this

project.”

CLARIFICATION: This is the company who “employed” you – not the outside organization that you might have done the project for, unless you were an independent contractor.

Within each process group:• There are detailed questions about tasks within that process

group.• Example: Executing Process: Please enter the # of hours

spent on “implementing approved changes according to your Change Management process.”


PMP Application – PM Training

A minimum of 35 contact hours of project management education (no time window)

For each PM class submitted, candidates will be asked to list the:

• Course title

• Name of provider

• Name of instructor

• Class dates

• Class hours


PMP Application – PM Training

The required project management instruction must address learning objectives in Project Management. The objectives must include content on:

• Project quality• Scope• Time• Cost• Human resource• Communications• Risk• Procurement• Integration mgmt

• PMP exam prep course


Application – PM Training

You cannot submit your application until you have completed all of the required # of hours.

Example: If you are needing education hours, you cannot submit your application until the course is completed and proof of attendance.


A Little About the PMP Exam

Examination is computer-based

Comprised of 200 multiple-choice questions

Allotted time to complete the exam is four (4) hours

About 80% of the questions will come from the PMBOK-Third Edition

• Other questions will be situational-based, outside reading, general PM knowledge, etc.

The correct answer is the “PMI answer”

Exam Process

The exam is offered EVERYDAY, assuming space is available at the test center.

PMI will provide you with the test centers in your area when your application is approved.

The test is offered exclusively through Prometric, a leading worldwide provider of comprehensive technology-based testing and assessment services.

Candidates will be scored on 175 questions. There are 25 pretest questions randomly placed thru out the exam. The pretest questions are not included in scoring.

To pass the PMP examination, PMI recalibrates the passing score as the questions mature. No one knows the passing score. (X questions out of 175)

Hints on Study Groups

• Who should be in the group?• Students following the same module or course of study

• How many people should be in the group?• 4-5 people in a study group is the optimum number

Where should we meet?• A quiet room or one which is convenient for the group, away from phones/email

How long should we meet?• Start off with a definite time frame in mind – check progress and adjust

What should happen at the first meeting?• Set an agenda and time frame for the meeting• Establish a group leader or chairperson• Explore expectations (hopes and fears) of the group• Decide on group aims and outcomes • Decide what your learning outcomes are• Establish ground rules

Remember – Study groups may not work for everyone!
