WEEK 6 TERM 4 Commencing Monday 18th November 2019

As we enter the second half of a quickly evaporating Term 4, we take time to reflect on what was three incredible major excursions that we hosted last week. Our Stage 2 students split their excursions into Year 3 and Year 4 journeys to Wellington and Dubbo with our students receiving high praise from venue operators for their conduct and engagement throughout their respective visits. There were many highlights of the excursion including the Cathedral Cave, Zoo Snooz at Billabong Camp and various Taronga Western Plains Zoo attractions. No doubt the children returned excited but exhausted from two wonderful days away. The Stage 3 Canberra Excursion was also typified by outstanding behaviour and involvement by our students. The three day adventure to our nation’s capital was highlighted by many attractions with the talk of the bus on return being the War Memorial, Parliament House, Questacon, AIS and Flip Out. No doubt your children had their own memories that they shared from a fantastic trip away. As with all excursions, they are not possible without sacrifices from parents and staff. Thanks is extended to all of the parents who found a way to fund their children’s participation in this event and acknolwdgement also to our staff who gave of their time to support children on this adventure. Photos from all excursions are published later in the newsletter and will also be available on-line in the coming days. Week 5 of the term also saw the eagerly anticipated commencement of the K-1 Swimming Scheme at the Leeton Pool. Approximately 100 children are now entering their second week of the intensive swimming program and are showing tremendous progress under the guidance of swimming instructors. We are looking forward to what the new week brings. With the weather forecast to reach extreme heat levels by the end of the week we encourage all parents and carers to ensure students who are participating to have easy access to sunscreen and water bottles for the duration of the week. This week sees our School Choir join the most talented public school performers from across NSW Public Schools for Schools Spectacular at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. Our students will depart for Sydney on Tuesday morning for six huge days of rehearsals and performance. The Choir was successful at audition in March and will perform as part of the all-schools choir in the 18000 seat capacity Qudos Bank Arena. We’ll have updates during the week linked to the kids’ experiences. It is such a busy time of the year and there is much more to take into account as we approach the conclusion of the school year. Please consider the following as you plan your week: November P&C Meeting The November Meeting of the Parkview P&C Association will be held next Monday, 18th November from 7pm in the Staffroom at School. All interested community members are encouraged to attend this meeting. Parkview P&C Christmas Carnival A reminder as advertised on the front of the newsletter, the Parkview P&C Association will host its annual Christmas Carnival on Friday, 22nd November from 5pm-7.30pm. This event is our P&C’s major fundraiser of the year and is always a great community event. Once again thanks to generous sponsors we have been able to keep the cost if the evening to a minimum, with family tickets of $35 (including two adults and children under 16 years of age) including dinner and access to all of the amusements for the evening. The early bird special for tickets closed today (Monday, 18th November) but will be extended until Wednesday so please get your pre-order tickets into the office prior to the this date.

Families who have already submitted pre-sale tickets for the Christmas Carnival will see them delivered home during this week (commencing Tuesday, 19th November). No further pre-sales will be accepted after Wednesday, however tickets will be available at the gate. Class of 2019 Christmas Toy Drive Our Year 6 students are again hosting their Annual Toy Drive, hoping to add a little Christmas Cheer to the lives of families who need it across Leeton.

The Class of 2019 asks that if you can spare something for families less fortunate than yours, that you leave it under the Christmas Tree in the School Administration Office foyer, from where they will be collected, wrapped and re-distributed by our Year 6 students later in the term.

Thanks in advance for your support of this initiative. Kinder 2020 Fundamental Learning Skills Bags Sessions As we prepare for the new school year, we host a number of initiatives to support our newest students and their families. The first of these will be held on Wednesday, 27th November when we host our Kinder 2020 Fundamental Learning Skills Bags Sessions. The sessions will be held at 1.15pm (in the Hall) and at 6.30pm (KC Room). At these sessions families will receive a complimentary Fundamental Learning Skills Bag full of activities and resources parents can do with their kids as well as important information for parents as their children reach the milestone of commencing primary school. We encourage parents of children commencing school in 2020 to attend one of these sessions. Kinder 2020 Transition Graduation Day Incredibly we are just 4 weeks away from the end of the Kindergarten 2020 Transition Program. As is tradition, we will host a Kindergarten Transition Graduation event which will feature an information session, family lunch and Graduation Ceremony. This event will be held on Wednesday, 11th December. We encourage all families involved with this event to return their lunch orders prior to the event. For more information refer to your specific Kindergarten 2020 Transition Newsletters or contact the school. Year 6 Graduation Dinner Our Class of 2019 will be celebrated our annual Year 6 Graduation Dinner on Wednesday, 11th December in the auditorium at the Leeton Soldiers Club. More information relating to this event will be shared with Year 6 students and their parents incoming days. Bright Beginnings 2020 Places are filling fast for Bright Beginnings 2020. TALKING SPORT – WEEK 6, TERM 4

2-6 Swimming Scheme The Years 2-6 School Swimming Scheme commences on Monday, 25th November and runs for two consecutive school weeks. Students who are unable to competently swim 50m are welcome

to participate in this initiative. The NSW School Sport Unit subsidises the tuition expenses associated with this program, meaning the only expenses for children are bus travel to and from school and the pool entry (not required if you have a season pass at the Leeton Pool).

Farrell Cup Ball Games The eagerly anticipated Farrell Cup Ball Games Championships will be hosted on Friday, 29th

November. This event is always the sporting highlight of term for our Sporting Houses, with all students K-6 competing for vital points in the time honoured event. With the House Championships still very much up for grabs, the points gained from the Farrell Cup could well determine our overall champions for 2019. Action will take place in the Quadrangle between 9am-11am on the day, with all interested community members encouraged to attend and support their children.
