The property was owned by various families through the succeeding years. In 1925 Lester Bourne Sr. and his wife Eulinda Bowman Bourne along with their five children became the last family to own Bourne Farm. Shortly before Mrs. Bourne's death in 1971, she deeded Bourne Farm to her five children. In 1979, Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries, Inc., under the direction of Ermine W. Lovell, founder and president, purchased the farm from the Bourne grand-children for $400,000. At the end of 1999, Salt Pond purchased 14 acres of land contigu- ous to Bourne Farm from the Sweeney family. Adding this wooded parcel gave Bourne Farm a total of 49 acres protected for future generations to enjoy. Today the property is used and appreciated in many ways by its visitors . The public can enjoy a peaceful stroll by the pond or a quiet walk on a wooded trail. Salt Pond holds its Pumpkin Day festival every Columbus Day weekend. The event is widely attended by families and children of all ages. The property is host to various nature classes in the summer months. Local artists and photographers frequently use the property.
