Guide
Welcome to Kindergarten!Hello and welcome to Kindergarten! My
name is Miss Marzocca and I am your child’s Kindergarten teacher. I am very excited to begin a new year and to give
your child a positive start to their educational experience. I would like to
provide you with some important information that will help answer some of your questions. It may seem like a lot at first, but once we all get in the routine of things, it should go very
smoothly.
Parent-Teacher Communication
• Your child will have a 2 pocket folder that will go to and from school.– Please check and return this folder
EVERYDAY!• Notices, homework and
completed work will be in the folder.
• If your child’s folder starts to become ripped or old, you can replace it with any folder your child would like. (Please make sure to staple in the Communication Log and Behavior Chart)
– Communication Log- stapled in the folder for us to communicate information. • Please always leave this
stapled in the folder. I will replace it as necessary.
– Behavior Chart (Calendar)- Please be sure to check it everyday and initial that you checked. This is how I know you saw how your child was in school that day.

School Hours
• School begins at 8:45 a.m.– Children can start lining up
at 8:35 a.m. on the playground. Please refrain from dropping off your child before 8:35 a.m. because they won’t have any supervision.
– Please kindly refrain from entering the playground for the students safety.
– On rainy days they go into the gym.
• School ends at 3:20 p.m.– Walkers and Boys & Girls
Club students will be dismissed.
– If your child is not picked up by 3:30 they will be brought to wait near the office.
•If there are any changes to how your child will be picked up, please complete a new Dismissal Form and return it to school in their folder.

Gym
**On Gym days, you must wear sneakers and leave home all
jewelry for that day. On rainy or snowy
days, you may wear boots, but remember to bring sneakers to
change.
Snack & Lunch• We have snack daily at
around 10-10:30 a.m.
– Please ONLY send ONE healthy snack and a drink! No soda, chips, candy, etc.
– Please make sure you only send 1 snack for snack time and that your child is not eating his/her lunch during snack.
Envelopes• Please send all money in
an envelope with your child’s name and K-12 clearly written on it along with its’ purpose.
• Do NOT put any envelopes or money loose in your child’s book bag, lunchbox, pockets, etc. I only check folders in the morning and will not see it if it is not in their folder.
Homework• Given Monday-
Thursday• Should be done in
pencil, unless says otherwise
• Your child does not need supplies for the classroom, but will need pencils, crayons, scissors, and a glue stick at home to complete homework throughout the year.
• Please do homework WITH your child, but not for them!
• Read all of the directions carefully.
• Have your child write their name on it.
• Homework is due the next day unless stated otherwise.

• Language Arts – One workbook
page– Towards the end
of the year -• Will be completed
in a journal that will be returned daily.
• Homework will be written on a slip of paper inside of journal.
• Math– 2 workbook
pages (front and back)
Journeys
• 6 Unit Language Arts series
• 5 weeks in each unit
• Covers letters, sounds, rhyming words, grammar, comprehension, etc.
• Small group guided reading
Sight Word Bag
• Your child will have a Ziploc bag stapled in their folder with a ring and word cards
• New word cards will be added each week with high frequency words– These are words
that appear frequently in reading that your child can’t sound out
• Please practice all of the words on the ring with your child EVERY night!
• Extremely important for their reading progression
• Please place the ring back in the bag after you practice each night!
• Do not lose the bag. We cannot repeatedly replace them!
enVision MATH• Includes:
– Daily Smart Board lessons
– Interactive stories– Games– Whole group instruction
using manipulatives– Independent practice– Chapter tests
• Please go over the review that is sent home the night before the test. This will GREATLY help your child with the test!
Class Rules
• Be good listeners.• Hands and feet to
yourself.• Raise hand and wait
to be called on.• Respect others and
their property.• Use kind words.
• Push chairs in.• Clean up after
yourself.• No talking when
someone else is talking.
• Do your BEST work. Don’t rush!!!
• Tell the truth.• Have fun!
Behavior
• Guitar– Students will have a
monthly calendar stapled in their folder
– They will come home with either a sticker, green colored box, yellow colored box, or red colored box
– Students will move their clip with their name themselves each time they are not following the rules
• Sticker- EXCELLENT behavior for the day!
• Green- Warning: Your child was warned about inappropriate behavior.
• Yellow- Time Out: Your child has been spoken to repeatedly.
• Red- Note Home: You will find a note in your child’s folder that will explain the misbehavior(s). You will need to sign and return the note to me the next day.
Don’t forget to
check your child’s
calendar everyday
and initial that
date!!!
Attendance
• Regular attendance = crucial for success
• If your child is absent, please send in a doctor’s note when your child returns– Please indicate the
date and reason for absence
• A written note is also needed for your child to be dismissed early for an appointment
• Absent and tardy days are noted on report cards
Changes in Transportation
• If you plan on making any change in the adult that picks up your child that is not listed on your emergency card, you need to:– Send in a written note– See me in the morning– Call the office
** Do not rely on your child to tell me this information because children often become confused or distracted and relay messages incorrectly.
Outdoor Recess
• Children go outside every day, weather permitting– Keep in mind when
selecting clothing for your child
– Our classroom is very warm during winter months. Dress your child in layers.
• If your child is well enough to be at school, then he/she can go outside for recess– All children must go
out unless they have a doctor’s note
– Mittens, jackets and gloves are required during winter months
Birthday Celebrations
• We would LOVE to celebrate your child’s birthday– New law indicates no
cake, cookies, doughnuts in school
– Some suggestions are fruit, fruit snacks, pretzels, muffins,
– goldfish crackers, popcorn, etc.
• Birthday invitations cannot be distributed in school unless the whole class is invited.
Show & Tell
• Every Thursday a note will go home indicating which students will be able to bring in an item
• Your child will have 1-2 turns per month. Please do NOT send it in unless it is your child’s week
• Please have your child bring in something that is special to them. They will tell the class why the item is special to them.
Other Information
• Label everything with your child’s name
• Save BOX TOPS and send them in. Each month we have a class winner and raise money for our school
• Class parents: If you would like to volunteer you can help with class parties, field trips etc. Please see the HSA and sign up form.
• A class party sign-up sheet is going around.– Please choose the
party and item you’d like to contribute. We may need you to help with more than one party
– A schedule will be sent home
Scholastic Book Orders
• Scholastic book orders will be sent home once a month– You can order on the
form or online. – Books are relevant to
your child’s level– Pertain to your
child’s interest– Reasonable prices– Reading with your
child is the best thing you can do!
Helpful Donations
• Things we need for our classroom:– Baby wipes– Clorox Wipes– Small toys for our
Treasure Box– Old magazines for
cutting out pictures
– Tissue Boxes! • The school often
runs out mid-year
