Pleasanton North Rotary Good Morning, Service Above Self. This has been and always be the “mantra” of Rotarians. Friday night it was on display for 240 people to see! We have been quite busy the first 6 weeks of this Rotary year as a number of events have been brought to our attention. In typical PNR fashion, we have not avoided taking on more responsibility but rather, we have grabbed the bull by the horns and said “Lets Get it Done”. The Robert Harrison Fundraiser last week was another example of what being a Rotarian is all about. Let’s think about how this event was brought to our attention. A member of our club (Tom Noonan) heard about the family and said let’s get involved and do something positive. He brought this to the Board’s attention and got approval. He was able to rally the members and formed a committee who wanted to help. In less than a month, we were able to secure a DJ, find country line dancers to donate their time, coordinate a barbeque for (as Tom would say) 50-1000 people, coordinate kid’s activities, and by the way raise a good amount of money for the Harrison family. Great job everyone! Please read the attached thank you letter too! It is truly amazing what this little club can accomplish. A special thanks to Tom for coordinating this, to Ron for cooking the meat, to Kevin for picking up the food from Lockeford, Ronda for designing the flyers, and to Vince for supplying us with what we need and the barbeque. Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped at the event and there are too many to mention. I am truly proud to say that I am a Rotarian and furthermore that I am a member of the best Rotary Club in the World! Good Morning,

Service Above Self. This has been and always be the “mantra” of Rotarians. Friday night it was on display for 240 people to see!

We have been quite busy the first 6 weeks of this Rotary year as a number of events have been brought to our attention. In typical PNR fashion, we have not avoided taking on more responsibility but rather, we have grabbed the bull by the horns and said “Lets

Get it Done”. The Robert Harrison Fundraiser last week was another example of what being a Rotarian is all about.

Let’s think about how this event was brought to our attention. A member of our club (Tom Noonan) heard about the family and

said let’s get involved and do something positive. He brought this to the Board’s attention and got approval. He was able to rally the

members and formed a committee who wanted to help. In less than a month, we were able to secure a DJ, find country line

dancers to donate their time, coordinate a barbeque for (as Tom would say) 50-1000 people, coordinate kid’s activities, and by the way raise a good amount of money for the Harrison family. Great

job everyone! Please read the attached thank you letter too!

It is truly amazing what this little club can accomplish. A special thanks to Tom for coordinating this, to Ron for cooking the meat,

to Kevin for picking up the food from Lockeford, Ronda for designing the flyers, and to Vince for supplying us with what we

need and the barbeque. Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped at the event and there are too many to mention.

I am truly proud to say that I am a Rotarian and furthermore that I

am a member of the best Rotary Club in the World!

SAVE THE DATE: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2010 AN HISTORIC DAY FOR ROTARY: THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF POLIO.

I know that every Rotarian in District 5170 is proud of our efforts to rid the planet from the scourge of Polio, and that is why

this message is going out on a District wide basis. Rotary International has been active in letting the world know how serious we are in our efforts to eradicate this disease by illuminating such world icons as: The Coliseum in Rome; The Pyramids of Egypt; and the Parliament Building in London. Well

were going to show the Bay Area that we are serious too!

ON OCTOBER 24, 2010 THE FOUR DISTRICTS ADJACENT TO THE BAY WILL SPONSOR THE LIGHTING OF THE SAN FRANCISCO FERRY BUILDING WITH THE END POLIO NOW LOGO AND THE ROTARY

WHEEL! WE ARE GOING TO TELL THE RESIDENCES OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THAT ROTARY, MORE

IMPORTANT ROTARIANS, ARE COMMITTED TO FINISHING THE JOB! Our day will begin at 11:00 am as we gather to demonstrate our resolve by walking 1.2 miles across

the Golden Gate Bridge. Arm in arm, hand in hand we will wear our Rotary shirts and caps, and show what Rotarians can accomplish.

We will then move to the Ferry Building and shop and dine until the big moment! AT 6:30 PM LASER LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE THE FERRY BUILDING SO THAT EVERYONE WILL SEE

ROTARY AT ITS BEST! This will be an historic day for Rotary and the Bay Area, don’t be left out, come and join the fun and

be a part of history. See you there….

Roger Hassler, District Governor 5170
