The communications facilities provided bythe SIMATIC S7-200 micro PLC are unique. The integral RS 485 standard interfaces canbe operated at data transmission ratesbetween 0.3 and 187.5 kbit/s:

• As a system bus with up to 126 sta-tions. This permits trouble-free net-working e.g. of programming devices,SIMATIC HMI products andSIMATIC CPUs. The integral PPI protocolis used for networks containing onlyS7-200. The S7-200 CPUs are linked as MPI slaves in a network containing TIA components (SIMATIC S7-300/400 and SIMATIC HMI etc.).

• In the FreePort mode, with application-specific protocols (e.g. ASCII protocol),the SIMATIC S7-200 is open for con-nection of many devices, e.g. modem, printer, barcode reader, PC, PLCs from other vendors etc. Using the USSprotocol for Siemens drives, up to31 MICROMASTER 3 drives can be controlled without additional hardware.

Modem communication

Modem communication means that theS7-200 CPUs can be accessed almostworldwide using standard commercialmodems.

• Teleservice: modem communicationsmeans that expensive service visits canbe avoided. Only two additional modems are required in order to use the complete programming functionssuch as program transfer, status or control; the communications toolsare standard.

• Telecontrol: Remote interrogation of messages and measured values is possible via modem, just as the inputof new set points or commands.A headend can control a number of substations. Communications using FreePort using the SMS functiondirectly to a cell phone is possible or alarms to a fax unit.

Fast on the PROFIBUS

All CPUs from 222 upwards can alsobe operated as a slave on thePROFIBUS-DP network using theEM 277 communications expansionmodule. The EM 277 expansionmodule gives you the flexibility to addPROFIBUS-DP communications, as youneed it – when you need it.

Powerful on the AS-Interface

The CP 243-2 turns the CPUs from 222upwards into powerful masters on theAS-Interface. Up to 62 stations can beconnected according to the new AS-ispecification V 2.1. Analog sensors canalso be linked without problem.

According to the new AS-i specification,up to 248 DI + 178 DO can be connectedin the maximum configuration. 31 of themax. 62 stations can be analog modules.

Extremely simple user-programming …

The STEP 7-Micro/WIN programmingsoftware offers powerful programming anddebugging tools, which make you moreeffective – and this means cost savings. You use the programming software in thesame manner as with standard Windowsapplications. If you know Windows soft-ware, you’ll have no problems withSTEP 7-Micro/Win. User programs arewritten using mouse clicks, tool bars orsimply drag & drop operations.

A comprehensive SIMATIC instruction setis standard, or if you desire IEC 1131programming is available. Context-basedon-line help provides handy support asneeded. STEP 7-Micro/WIN can display andprogram several projects on the screensimultaneously – and copy completesections of a program into another pro-gram simply by clicking with the mouse.

Structured programming means that youcan design the program clearly withmemory-optimized solutions. This programstructure also guarantees that programcomponents such as

• PID controllers,• Mathematical calculations,• Table operations and• Communications routinesneed only be programmed once andthen used repeatedly.

Wizards included in Micro/WIN permitsimple parameterization instead ofprogramming. It is only necessary to fill inthe parameters in the menus, andthe software generates the program,e.g. for• S7-200 system communications in

the network,• TD 200 configuring,• PID controller configuring,• High Speed counter configuring.

... even for commissioning, servicingand troubleshooting

The integral on-line functions, multipleprogramming options, program status, real-time edits, local and remote monitor anddebug establish STEP 7-Micro/WIN softwareas the leader in Micro PLC programming.

The toolbox

The optional toolbox offers a library forsimple configuring of the USS protocolas well as a graphic configuration tool forthe TP 070 touch panel.

The USS protocol library contains allprogram blocks required for completecontrol of up to 31 drives on one bussystem.

The graphic configuration tool“TP Designer” for the TP 070 enablesextremely simple configuring ofcomplex visualization tasks.

SIMATIC MicroComputing

• Controls data transfer between CPU and PC using Microsoft standard mechanisms such as OLE, OPC …

• Data transfer between CPU and applications such as Visual Basic,Visual C++, Excel, Designer, Delphi, and Photoshop etc.

• Stock of control elements, displaysand mechanisms permit simple generation of a graphical user interfaceon the PC.

TOP in real time

High-tech in every detail ensures theoutstanding real-time characteristics of ournew CPUs:

• 4 or 6 independent hardware counters @ 30 kHz each for interfacing to incre-mental encoders or high-speed pulse trains

• 4 independent interrupt inputs, with0.2 ms input filter times to adjust reaction times – for maximum process response

• 2 high-speed pulse outputs @ 20 kHz each either pulse-width modulation or pulse train output, e.g. for control of stepper motors, drives or temperature

• 2 timed interrupts (adjustable from 1 msin intervals of 1 ms) – for precise controlof processes that change over time

• High-speed analog inputs – signal conversion with 25 µs, 12-bit resolution

• Real-time clock

Complementary technology

SITOP power –perfectly matching the S7-200

SITOP power 24 V/3.5 A is the optimumpower supply if connected loads can nolonger be supplied as standard by theSIMATIC S7-200 CPU: the primary switched-mode regulator is fully matched to the microPLC in design and functionality, and canbe integrated into the PLC network like anS7-200 module.

For extreme cases: SIPLUS additions

Use under extreme conditions – no prob-lem! SIPLUS additions are the solution foruse in extended temperature ranges, forprotection against condensation, or for othervoltage ranges. Its CPUs are matched tothe special demands.

Small and practical

EEPROM cartridgeA small, optional EEPROM cartridge savesyou significant time and money. You canuse it to easily copy, update or replace yourapplication program on your S7-200 CPU.And if required, you can mail a programrapidly and at a low cost to your customersusing this cartridge. Simply turn off thepower, insert the cartridge, and reconnectthe power … and – the user program is up-dated in a flash.

Battery cartridgeTo guarantee that application data are neverlost, the optional battery module permitslong-term backup for typically 200 daysbeyond the internal backup of 5 days.

Real-time clock (either built inor on a cartridge)Whether you require it to count operatinghours, preheat rooms or provide timestamps for messages: the real-time clockof the S7-200 is software-controlled toprovide exact seconds and dates – eventaking leap years into account.

Analog potentiometersWith the S7-200’s analog potentiometers, you can optimize your process by meansof a screwdriver. You can set memory values, timer values, counter presets or othervariables without having to intervene in theprogram. Very practical, for example, formodifying a welding time or an overshoottime rapidly and easily.
