TRANSITIONAL WORDS & PHRASES
Transitional words and phrases connect ideas and thoughts in a clear, organized way to make things easier for an audience to understand. They can show the sequence of events. (EXAMPLE: first, second, then, afterwards)
When I wake up on Saturday mornings, first I brush my teeth and then I comb my hair. Afterwards I turn on the TV and watch cartoons until dad hollers for me to do chores.

ORIGAMI Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. If you’re interested in learning how to make things, it’s a good idea to first find a book of easy instructions to help you get started. Next you’ll need to get paper to use for the designs. You can find colored pattern sheets in many craft stores. Once you have your supplies, look through the book and pick the design you’d like to try. You’ll need to follow the steps listed in the book while you attempt to fold the paper in the shapes described. When you finish, your creation should look like the one in the picture. What fun!
SAND CASTLESBuilding sandcastles isn’t just for kids. Lots of grownups are serious
about turning sand castles into spectacular sculptures. Here are a few tips to help you build them like the professionals.
Beforehand it’s a good idea to collect a few tools that will help you shape your castle. A shovel and several buckets of different sizes work well. First you need to find moist sand where you can build. Begin by make a large pile of sand 12 to 18 inches high. Next, pack the sand down hard and smooth off so the top so it’s flat. At this point , you can use a mold to make towers . After that, push your shovel down the sides to make the walls smooth and tall. Finally, you can add rocks, seaweed, or twigs to decorate your castle. When finished, you’ll have a real work of art!
A MAKE-IT-YOURSELF SNACKFirst you’ll need to ask your parents if you can try this snack. Then gather these ingredients together:• 1 full-size bag microwave popcorn • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese • 6 Tbsp. butter, melted
Begin by preparing the popcorn in the microwave, according to the package instructions. Next, pour the popcorn into a large bowl. After that, sprinkle grated cheese over top. Then, drizzle melted butter on top of cheese and toss it to coat the popcorn well. Finally you can eat it up, but don’t forget to share it! YUM!

WANT S’MORE?Crave a midnight snack when you’re camping or
just at home watching TV? Here’s a gooey good treat to enjoy! First you’ll need one graham cracker, two marshmallows and a few pieces of a Hershey’s chocolate bar.
“BRUSH UP” THAT SMILE While a space alien from galaxies far away visited me, it seemed very interested in how (and why) I brushed my teeth. I explained
