Using AirPlay MirroringIf you’re ready to set up AirPlay betweenyour TV and iPad, then all that’s left is tofollow these steps:

1. Double press the iPad’s Home but-ton. This brings up a row of appicons under the Dock. Swipe the barof apps from left to right to reveal anew set of controls.

2. Tap the AirPlay button.

3. Tap Apple TV.

4. Move the Mirroring slider to On.Sometimes mirroring takes a few sec-onds to start, but after that, whateveris on your iPad’s screen will show upon the TV. Because what’s is on theiPad’s screen appears on the TV, youcan play a game and it will appear onthe TV—just like you’re playing PS3or Wii.

Playing on the Big Screen withAirPlay Mirroring

The iPad’s screen is pretty big for a tablet, but it’s nothing compared to thebig-screen HDTV that you and your friends may be used to playingPlayStation, Wii, or Xbox on. But did you know there’s a way for your iPad’sscreen to show up on that TV? It’s called AirPlay Mirroring.

You can’t use AirPlay Mirroring with the iPad and just any old TV. You needsome specific items:

• An iPad

• An HDTV

• A second-generation or newer Apple TV

• A Wi-Fi network

If you have all those things, you first have to make sure the Apple TV is con-nected to the HDTV. Then make sure the Apple TV and your iPad are on thesame Wi-Fi network. Also, always make sure it’s OK with your parents beforeyou start using AirPlay Mirroring.

Turning Mirroring OffTo turn mirroring off, follow the first three steps and then move the Mirroringslider to Off.

MIRRORING WITH AN HDMI ADAPTERWi-Fi isn’t the only way to mirror your iPad’s screen on your TV. You can alsouse Apple’s HDMI adapter accessory. HDMI is the kind of plug that HDTVs andother hi-def devices use to send video and audio back and forth.

The $39 Apple HDMI adapter plugs into the Dock Connector on one end. Theother end attaches to an HDMI cable that plugs into one of your TV’s HDMIports. Once you’ve connected them, mirroring works basically the same way.When you use HDMI, games aren’t the only great option for mirroring—watching videos from your iPad in HD is pretty good, too.
