The Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) is a major research and training division of New Mexico Tech (NMT). As one of several research divisions of NMT, EMRTC has access to university faculty with experience in a wide variety of scientific and technical disciplines. Research and education are major components of EMRTC’s mission. EMRTC is committed toto working with universities, National Laboratories, and other organizations to promote research and develop-ment in all aspects of energetic materials.

With a 41 square mile field research laboratory contain-ing more than 30 test facilities, EMRTC is able to offer a comprehensive range of research, analysis and testing services in one location. The field laboratory is located in the mountainous area adjacent to the NMT campus and has level plateaus with elevations ranging from 4,000 to 10,500 feet above sea level with terrain similar to current theaterstheaters of operation. Airspace in the area is uncon-gested and EMRTC has demonstrated experience in requesting and managing special use airspace above the area.
