January 1’993 Additives for Polymers

Preparation and characterization of new copolymers containing hindered amine

Five new polymeric Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) prepared by radical copolymerization of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4- piperidyl methacrylate (MTMP) with styrene (St), acrylonitrile (AN), acrylamide ~AAm), vinylacetate (VAc) and 2-vinylpyridine (VP). Polymer Degradation & Stability, 1993, 39, (I), 85-91

Stabilization of polyurethane films against thermal and photo- oxidative degradation

The stabilization of poly tetr~e~ylene hexamethylene dicarbamate against thermal and photo-oxidative degradation was studied in the temperature range 273 to 353K using monochromatic light of 253.7nm. 4-methoxy- 2, 6-diphenyl phenol (MDPP) and a,a’- diphenyl diethylsulphide (DPDS) were used as stabilizers. Polymer Degradation & Stubility, 1993, 39, (l), 93-101’

Re-evaluation of the stabilization mechanisms of various light stabilizer classes

The mecha.nisms of stabilization of polymers by UV absorbers, Ni stabilizers and hydroxy- benzoates ,are re-examined. This is done in the light of recent findings concerning hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) stabilization mechanisms as well as photo-oxidation of polyethylene and polypropy Iene. Po~mer Degra~a~o~ & StabiLi~, 1993, 39, (I), II 7-135

Glass mat reinforced polyurethanes

Glass mat reinforced polyureth~es are the combination of a polyure~~e system with glass mat or woven and/or non-woven fabric. Because of the wide property variations created by this combination, a wide range of potential applications exists, more pa~icul~ly in the automotive sector, Kunststoffe, 1992, 82, (9), 744-748

Colour concentrates and their effect on processing and properties

A masterbatch is technologically the simplest but at the same time the most expensive method of coiouring plastics. For cost reasons the current trend is to use concentrates where possible. However, problems will occur when doing this, as demonstrated in studies discussed in this article. Kunststoffe, 1992, 82, (9), 767-170

Plastics colorants free of heavy metals?

The undifferentiated debate on colorants free of heavy metals has discredited a whole range of inorganic and organic colorants. If pigments free of heavy metals are demanded, then pigments should be used which were manufactured without the actual environmentally significant constituents Pb, Cd and chromate. This affects Pb chromate pigments and Cd pigments. In the case of the other pigments .containing heavy metals, the heavy metal content is by no means an adequate reason for substitution considerations. K~~~tstoffe, 1992, 82, (91, 771-776
