a synthetic material derived from

petroleum made of a long chains of

molecules called polymers

2 Types of Plastics:

1. Thermoplastics

- can be reheated and

reformed

- examples are polyethylene,

nylon, vinyl, polystyrene

2. Thermoset

- cannot be remolded once

processed

- examples are polyurethanes,

polyesters, epoxies
