ENGINEERING & DESIGN
A plastics and compositesengineer can be involved in thedevelopment, planning, supervision, or construction of thematerials, methods, andequipment for the production ofindustrial or consumer goods.Plastics and Composites engineerswill help to solve the complexproblems associated with plasticsor composites manufacturingoperations. Graduates work inteams with engineers, scientists, and technicians to solvemanufacturing-related problemsincluding environmental impactsof production.
"This program is hard work and requires astrong commitment. In my opinion, dedicated
individuals get more opportunity andexperience in this program compared to other
majors at WWU. Professors in this programare passionate about what they teach and
truly want to see students succeed."

Plastics and Composites EngineeringStudents enrolled in Western’s Plastics & Composites Engineering (PCE) program study therelationship between molecular structure, processing, and properties of polymers andcomposites. The PCE curriculum prepares graduates who understand and apply establishedscientific and engineering knowledge to support engineering activities in manufacturingenvironments. The technical curriculum is built upon a firm base of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and materials science. Practical experience in design, materials, processing, economics, testing, and analysis is a crucial part of the hands-on curriculum that is providedin the program’s extensive and well-equipped laboratory facilities. Western’s PCE programis one of six in the nation and the only one on the west coast.
