The first man-made plastic was created by Alexadner Parkes who publicly demonstrated it at the 1862 Great International Exhibition in London.Theorganic material derived from cellulose was called Perkesine.

Polythene was first synthesized by the German chemist Hans Von Pechmann in 1898 just by an accident. The first industrial synthesis of polythene was discovered in 1933 by Eric Fwacettand Reginald Gibson(again by an baccident)
