Plants
1.- Classification of plantsWe can classify plants into two groups:A) Flowering plants: They've got roots, stem, leaves and flower. Seeds are inside the flowers. They produce fruit.B) Non flowering plants:* Algae: We find them in or near the water. They don't have flowers, fruits or seeds.* Mosses: We find them in damp and shady places like forest. They don't have flowers, fruits or seeds.* Ferns: We find them in damp and shady places like the tropical rainforest. They don't have flowers, fruits or seeds.
2.- Characteristics of plants- Plants make their own food in a process called photosynthesis.- They have not sense organs.- They have can not move.
4.- Parts of a plantMost plants have three parts: roots, stem and leavesa) Roots:
- They hold the plant in the ground.
- They absorb water and minerals.b) Stem:
It supports the plant.
They transport minerals and water travel through the stem to the leaves.c) Leaves: It's the place where plants make their food.
Plants make their own food in a process called photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis.
1.- Roots absorb minerals and water from the soil.
2.- Some cells carry the mixture of minerals and water (sap) from the roots to the leaves travelling through the stem.
3.- Leaves absorb carbon dioxide.
4.- The chlorophyll in the chloroplasts traps the energy from the Sun.
5.- That energy transforms the CO2, water and minerals into glucose and oxygen.
6.- The plant releases the oxygen and the cells carry the glucose to all the plant parts.
6.- Parts of a flower
