Page 2: Plant parts and photosynthesis

In this activity you will:

• Learn about the plant parts.• Learn about the process of Photosynthesis.

Page 4: Plant parts and photosynthesis

1) FLOWER:

Fruits and seeds form inside.

Page 5: Plant parts and photosynthesis

2) Stem:• Stems help

hold plants up.

Page 6: Plant parts and photosynthesis

3) Leaves:

• Where the plant makes food.

Page 7: Plant parts and photosynthesis

4) Roots:• Roots take up water

and other materials that plants need from the soil.

• Roots also hold plants in the soil.

NAME THE PLANT PARTS

Page 9: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Fruits and seeds form inside

Page 10: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Take in water and nutrients from the soil

Page 11: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Carry water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant

What is photosynthesis?

• It’s a Process by which plants make their own food.

Page 18: Plant parts and photosynthesis
Page 19: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Plants need energy to grow

• Plants need energy to grow • Plants get energy from the sun• Plants use energy to carry on

the process of photosynthesis

Page 20: Plant parts and photosynthesis
Page 21: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis

• Cells in the plant trap light energy from the sun

• Plants use the sun’s energy to change carbon dioxide and water into sugar

• The plant uses the simple sugars to help it grow

Page 22: Plant parts and photosynthesis

The chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight. Plants’ leaves contain chlorophyllChlorophyll (green color) Chlorophyll is needed for photosynthesis

Page 23: Plant parts and photosynthesis

The chlorophyll processes the ingredients and makes sugar (plant food) and oxygen.

Page 25: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Plants have tiny holes in the bottom of each leafThe tiny holes let air go in and out of the leafPlants use a gas in the air called carbon dioxidePlants release oxygen back into the air

CO2

Page 27: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Plants need water for photosynthesis

• Plants get water from the soil

• Roots bring water from the soil to the plant

• Water is needed for the cells of the plant to carry on photosynthesis

Page 28: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Plants and animals need each other to survive.

Page 29: Plant parts and photosynthesis

Animals including humans make the CO2 (carbon dioxide) plants need. They (the plants) make the O2 (oxygen) and food we need.
