Tall grass prairies were once an extensive part of Northwest Arkansas. Development and agriculture in the region have almost completely eliminated these prairies. Preservation and restoration of remaining tall grass prairies, even on a small scale, has become an important goal throughout America. Planting tall grass prairie planter boxes in the Nature Area of NWACC is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long range preservation and restoration plan in cooperation with the community, the college, and the students.
