PLAINCHANT LANDS PRIX ECLIPSEThe feature race at Chantilly yesterday was the Gr.3 Prix Eclipse for two-year-olds over 1200m and it was won in superb style by the Maurizio Guarnieri-trained Plainchant. at €3,000 at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale and was acquired privately for €5,000 at the October Yearling Sale ten months later. Third on her debut over 1000m at La Teste de Buch, she got off the mark at the same venue over 200m further before returning to win the Listed Critérium du Bequet over course and distance.

She is a half-sister to a pair of winners out of the winning Doyen mare Nadinska, who is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Prix de Sandringham winner and Gr.1 Sun Chariot Stakes-placed Laugh Out Loud (by Gregorian’s sire Clodovil) and to the Listed Pinnacle Stakes and Listed Chalice Stakes scorer Suzi’s Decision (Act One).

IMPROVING FONTHILL ABBEY SCORES IN PRIX BERTRAND DE TARRAGONGodolphin’s improving four-year-old Dubawi filly Fonthill Abbey continued her upward curve when registering her first Stakes win in the Gr.3 Prix Bertrand de Tarragon at Chantilly yesterday.

Second on her debut at two, she won her maiden here last season and, having won again at Vichy last month, she was beaten just a short head in the Listed Prix de la Cochère at Longchamp last time by the re-opposing Testa (Acclamation).

Ridden by Mickael Barzalona, she settled at the rear of the seven-runner field as Suphala (Frankel) took them along at an even gallop, tracked by Testa and Tickle Me Green (Sea The Moon), who was on the rail. Having turned for home, the tempo lifted and Fonthill Abbey made good progress on the outer before quickening to the front 300m out and going on to score by a half a length. Thalyia (Motivator) had to switch off heels and flew home late on to grab second, while Tickle Me Green, on the other hand, hardly came off the bridle, trapped on the rail behind Suphala, who was a well-beaten third, three quarters of a length behind the runner-up.

A homebred for the Godolphin operation, Fonthill Abbey comes from a family nurtured by Jim Bolger, as she is the only winner to date out of the unraced New Approach mare Fair Hill, a half-sister to Bolger’s unbeaten European Champion Two-Year-Old, Gr.1 National Stakes and Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes winner and sire Teofilo (Galileo), and a full-sister to Poetic Charm, who did the Gr.2 Cape Verdi Stakes and Gr.2 Balanchine Stakes double in Godolphin blue, and the Gr.3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial winner Bean Feasa (Dubawi).

    BRITAIN

WINTER POWERS TO HARRY ROSEBERY SUCCESSThe Listed EBF Harry Rosebery Stakes, one of two races at the grade at Ayr yesterday, put the juveniles in the spotlight and it was the Tim Easterby-trained Winter Power, one of the more experienced runners in the race, who came out on top.

Racing over the minimum trip, the son of Rathasker Stud’s Bungle Inthejungle was ridden with restraint by David Allan in the colours of King Power Racing Co Ltd as Rebel At Dawn (Dandy Man) blazed a trail out in front, tracked by Nomadic Empire (Kodiac). Winter Power travelled strongly into the final quarter of a mile and, with the rest off the bridle, he was asked to go and win his race. Nomadic Empire rallied gamely inside the closing stages, but Winter Power was always doing enough and held on to score by half a length. First Company (Fast Company) was third, three quarters of a length further back.

the weights, she had a crack at Listed class last time out, finishing fourth in the Flying Fillies’ Stakes back at Pontefract.

A full-sister to the Listed Cathedral Stakes winner and Gr.3 Ballycorus Stakes runner-up Don’t Touch, she is out of the three-year-old winner Expressive (Falbrav), who produced three other winners to Invincible Spirit and his son Mayson. Expressive is a half-sister to the Gr.1 Matron Stakes winner Echelon (Danehill; dam of the Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes and Gr.1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner Integral), from the family of Gr.1 2,000 Guineas winner and sire Entrepreneur (Sadler’s Wells).

GLORIOUS JOURNEY BACK TO HIS BEST IN NEWBURY FEATUREThere was plenty of juvenile talent on display at Newbury yesterday, but the feature race was the 7f Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes for three-year-olds and above, in which the high-class five-year-old gelding Glorious Journey (Dubawi) bounced back to form with a smooth fifth Stakes success.

A Gr.3 winner as a two and three-year-old in France, the Charlie Appleby-trained Glorious Journey won the Gr.2 Hungerford Stakes over course and distance last season following some decent efforts dropped back to 6f. He landed the Gr.2 Al Fahidi Fort at Meydan in January before finishing third in a valuable conditions event in Saudi Arabia. Returning to home soil, he was midfield in the Gr.2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and a disappointing fifth behind future Gr.1 Sprint Cup victor Dream Of Dreams when attempting back to back wins in the Gr.2 Hungerford Stakes last time.

Bred by Newlands House Stud, Winter Power was picked up by SackvilleDonald for €90,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale. A half-brother to the Listed Land O’Burns Stakes winner Hay Chewed (Camacho) and the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy runner-up Flying Sparkle (Fast Company), he is out of Titian Saga (Titus Livius), who has a filly by Fast Company catalogued as Lot 447 at the Orby Sale in a little over a week.

LISTED SUCCESS FOR CHEVELEY PARK HOMEBRED FILLY EXCEPTIONALThe second Listed contest at Ayr yesterday was the Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes, for which a total of 16 faced the starter, and it was Cheveley Park Stud’s homebred filly Exceptional who emerged victorious. The three-year-old daughter of Dutch Art, who is trained by Richard Fahey, was given plenty of daylight by Paul Hanagan, racing in between two distinct groups. The far side group was led by Dandy’s Beano (Dandy Man), while Magical Moment (Dubawi) and Peggie Sue (Captain Gerrard) showed plenty of tow on the near side. Exceptional was under a drive entering the final quarter of a mile and looked to have plenty to do to catch Dandy’s Beano, but she stayed on very strongly in the closing stages, powering to the front in the last 100 yards and going on to score by a length. Last Empire (Pivotal) also finished off strongly to take second close home, a length and a quarter ahead of Dandy’s Beano.

A winner from two starts last term, Exceptional made a winning reappearance in a 6f Pontefract handicap in June and, having been placed in two more handicaps and going up 12lbs in

However, dropped down to Listed class, he proved far too good for his eight rivals, travelling strongly under James Doyle to move upside the longtime leader Jash (Kodiac) approaching the final furlong and only needing to be pushed out close home to readily quicken clear for a comfortable one-length success. The Godolphin pair, headed by the three-year-old filly Final Song (Dark Angel) from the six-year-old gelding D’bai (Dubawi), finished well from off the pace to claim second and third, separated by a neck. .

Glorious Journey, bred by Normandie Stud and a 2,600,000gns Tattersalls yearling purchase by John Ferguson, is the second foal out of the Gr.1 Coronation Stakes victress Fallen For You (Dansili) and is a half-brother to recent first time out juvenile scorer Love Is You (Kingman). The second dam Fallen Star (Brief Truce) is a Gr.3-winning half-sister to the Gr.1-winning miler and sire Fly To The Stars (Bluebird) and the female line traces back to Light Duty (Queen’s Hussar), a full-sister to The Queen’s dual Classic winner Highclere.

    ITALY

TWILIGHT SON’S ARIA IMPORTANTE REMAINS UNBEATEN IN EUPILIAria Importante (Twilight Son), who faced a three-kilo penalty for her win in the Gr.3 Premio Primi Passi, landed a game win in the Listed Premio Eupili over 1200m at San Siro yesterday.

The 1/2 odds-on favourite broke fast and set a brilliant pace, shadowed by the dual Listed scorer Wakanaka (Power), who carried a two-kilo penalty. The two fillies came eye to eye in the final furlong where Aria Importante found a bit extra, holding her rival off by a neck, while Sunshine Day (Arcano) clinched third place, three and half lengths further behind.

Aria Importante is still unbeaten in four starts, while Wakanaka has been beaten twice, in their mutual debut and yesterday, but won all three of her other starts. Aria Importante clocked the trip in 1 :09.3, a very fast time for a two-year-old filly carrying 58 kilos. Her jockey Carlo Fiocchi said: ‘’She is very fast and very good. The other filly is brilliant too, but she held the challenge very easily.”

Connections of the winner and the gallant runner-up will have to make a decision about the Gr.2 Premio Dormello, the championship event for two-year-old fillies contested over 1600m, with the Gr.2 Gran Criterium against the colts over 1500m as plan B or a race abroad over a shorter trip.

Aria Importante is the best of the 13 winners from the initial 122-foal crop by Twilight Son (Kyllachy), who was offered this year for £7,000 at Cheveley Park Stud. The talented filly was bred by Scuderia Blueberry, which raced her dam Aria Di Festa (Orpen), a very talented racemare who won the Listed Premio Torricola and was second in the Gr.3 Premio Regina Elena and third in the Gr.2 Prix de Sandringham. Aria Di Festa returned four other winners, none at Stakes level, and is out of the multiple Stakes-placed Alarme Belle (Warning). Franco Raimondi

Rounding off the field are a trio of outsiders - the Gr.3 winner and King Edward Stakes runner-up Admiralty Pier (English Channel) and the Gr.3-placed pair Armistice Day (Declaration Of War) and Olympic Runner (Gio Ponti).

    STALLION NEWSIRELAND

KAMSIN BOUGHT TO STAND IN IRELANDThe triple Gr.1 winner Kamsin is to continue his stud career in Ireland from next spring.

The deal has been brokered by Richard Venn, who confirmed: “The horse has been purchased by a syndicate of Irish breeders. It will be confirmed at a later date where he will stand.”

The son of Samum recorded a Gr.1 hat-trick in the summer of 2008 in the Deutsches Derby, Rheinland Pokal and Grosser Preis von Baden. A half-brother to fellow German Gr.1 winner Khan (Santiago) and Gr.3 winner Kapitale (Dubawi), out of the Gr.3-winning Winged Love mare Kapitol, Kamsin spent his first six seasons at stud in Germany before moving to France.

(Galileo) tops a select field of five three-year-old fillies for the 1m2f Gr.1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park today.

A Listed-placed two-year-old, Magic Attitude won the Gr.3 Prix Vanteaux on her three-year-old debut for Fabrice Chappet before finishing second in the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary in June and claiming a decent fifth in a quality renewal of the Gr.1 Prix de Diane when last seen back in July.

Her main rival at the top of the market is Godolphin’s consistent Group performer Antoinette (Hard Spun), who ended a run of four consecutive third places, including in the Gr.1 Coaching Club American Oaks in July, with a battling victory in the Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes last time.

Another French import in with a chance is Leonard Powell’s recent Gr.1 Del Mar Oaks fourth Neige Blanche (Anodin), who landed the Gr.3 Prix Cleopatre on her final start for Cedric Rossi back in June.

Completing the field is Todd Pletcher’s maiden winner Setting The Mood (Lea), runner-up on her last two starts, and the Gr.2 Lake Placid Stakes fourth Key Biscayne (Brethren), who was third behind Antoinette last time out.

    CANADA

VERSATILE WAR OF WILL SEEKS THIRD GR.1 IN WOODBINE MILELast year’s Gr.1 Preakness Stakes hero War Of Will (War Front) looks to continue his rejuvenated form on the turf for Mark Casse as he takes on seven rivals in the Gr.1 Woodbine Mile in Canada.

Runner-up as a juvenile over course and distance in the Gr.1 Summer Stakes, he was without a win after his Pimlico triumph, but, switched back to turf this season, he finished sixth in the Gr.1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes and ran on late to claim a narrow win in the Gr.1 Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes in July.

In a competitive market, his main danger is stablemate March To The Arch (Arch), a five-year-old gelding who won the Gr.2 Wise Dan Stakes last year and scored over course and distance last time in the Gr.2 King Edward Stakes.

Two more towards the head of the market are Roger Attfield’s unbeaten three-year-old colt Shirl’s Speight (Speightstown), who followed up his debut win with victory in the Gr.3 Marine Stakes on the Tapeta at Woodbine back in July, and Chad Brown’s lightly-raced four-year-old rig Value Proposition (Dansili), a

Triple Gr.1 winner Kamsin (Samum), who will be standing in Ireland next spring. © Marc Ruhl

Despite siring only small early crops, he is responsible for 12 black-type performers, among them last year’s German Gr.3 winners Ladykiller and Lips Queen. His jumping progeny are headed by the 2018 Gr.1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris hero On The Go and this year’s Auteuil Listed winner and Gr.2 runner-up El Gringo. This year, he has sired nine winners over both disciplines, including Gr.2 Baden Meile winner Nica.

Based for the past two years at Haras de la Tuilerie, Haras d’Etreham’s National Hunt base, Kamsin has played an important role in the development of the stud’s range of National Hunt stallions, thanks to his input of stamina and German bloodlines,

“The Into Mischiefs have been on fire at this sale and on the racetrack. Stonestreet has been very supportive of us over the years and we greatly appreciate it. We have had good success for them.”

Next among the headliners at $775,000 was a Quality Road colt (Lot 1197), bought by Donato Lanni for SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stable. Consigned by Candy Meadows Sales, the colt is out of the Stakes-placed Forestry mare Sustainable from the extended family of French champion Argument (Kautokeino) and Gr.1 Del Mar Oaks winner Famous Digger (Quest For Fame).

“For the special horses like him, I don’t think there is any trouble [in the market] at all,” said Candy Meadows Senior Vice President and COO Matt Lyons. “You have groups looking to buy two-turn Derby-type horses and there are a lot of people looking for that type of horse. When they all land on the same one they can bring an exceptional price.”

A daughter of Constitution (Lot 904) attracted a final bid of $725,000 from Alex Solis and Jason Litt to be the third-highest price on Thursday. The filly is a half-sister to Gr.1 Woody Stephens Stakes winner Hog Creek Hustle (Overanalyze) and Stakes winner Majestic Dunhill (Majesticperfection). They were produced by the unraced Candy Ride mare Candy Fortune.

“She stood out and that’s what I heard from everybody,” said Warrendale Sales owner Kitty Taylor who consigned her for Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm. “She vetted and the physical matched. She was one of the better-pedigreed Constitutions.”

Taylor said the filly will race for LNJ Foxwoods and noted that buyers with racing stables are attracted to prospects from Sexton and Silver Fern.

“They just like to build a big, solid broodmare band,” she said. “Most people that buy to race know them well and they’re very comfortable buying from them.”

With Sheikh Hamdan bypassing the September sale, his Lexington Shadwell Farm General Manager Rick Nichols continued filling the orders. At $675,000, he picked up an Into Mischief colt (Lot 880), who is a half-brother to Champion Sprinter and Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Runhappy (Super Saver), from Taylor Made Sales Agency, acting on behalf of Stonestreet Bred & Raised. The colt is out of the winning Broken Vow mare Bella Jolie, a half-sister to Stakes winner Millennium Storm (Future Storm).

and he will now continue his career in Ireland with a new broodmare base.

SALES TALK continuedKEENELAND – DAY FIVE EARLY LOTS

MORE MISCHIEF ON DAY FIVETwo horses were sharing pole position by half way through the fifth session of trade at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, each of whom realised $400,000.

The first of these was Lot 1253, an Into Mischief filly from the Legacy Bloodstock draft. Purchased by Joey Platts, the late April-foaled bay is the second foal of a Gr.3-placed full-sister to the Japanese Gr.1 winner Fiano Romano (Fastnet Rock). The second dam is the dual Gr.3-winning Lion Heart mare Heart Ashley, a half-sister to the Gr.1 Santa Anita Derby winner Cupid (Tapit), who has his first yearlings for sale this year.

The second $400,000 youngster was Lot 1328, an Uncle Mo colt bought by Donato Lanni, acting as agent for a syndicate. The colt’s dam is Delightful Mary (Limehouse), who was Canada’s Champion Two-Year-Old Filly of 2010 and a Gr.3 winner. Her half-siblings include the four-time Graded Stakes winner Delightful Kiss (Kissin Kris).

Just behind this pair, having been snapped up by West Bloodstock for $390,000 was Lot 1220, a February-born filly by Union Rags. Consigned by Lane’s End, she is the second foal of an unraced Giant’s Causeway half-sister to Stakes winner Secret Someone (A P Indy) and to the dam of last year’s Gr.1 Alabama Stakes winner Dunbar Road (Quality Road).

    KEENELAND – DAY FOUR

INTO MISCHIEF COLT MAKES A MILLIONOn the fourth day of the 12-day Keeneland September Yearling Sale, 195 lots were reported as changing hands for $34,507,000 on Thursday, writes Liane Crossley.

The average was $176,959 and median closed at $135,000 after nearly ten hours of commerce. With a format that deviated from the initial four days in 2019, comparisons are inconclusive. Thus far, 589 horses have brought $160,583,000 for an average of $272,637 and a median of $200,000.

“There was a lot of depth to the market,” Keeneland Director of Sales Operations Geoffrey Russell said. “As we have said before, it is very selective. The people who should be here and looking at the horses and making the decisions are here, and we are very happy that they are committed to this industry.”

The session-topper (Lot 1203) entered the ring in the final 30 minutes of the auction and exited under the $1m lights. The son of Into Mischief was purchased via Keeneland’s phone bidding option by Peter Leidel, who co-campaigned European champion Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy).

The colt was consigned by Warrendale Sales, acting for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. He is out of Gr.2 Top Flight Handicap winner and track record setter Teen Pauline (Tapit).

“He is a lovely horse, ticked all the boxes as they say,” said Hunter Simms, partner and director of bloodstock services for Warrendale.

    RACING NEWS FROM

    SWEDEN

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AT BRO PARK ON STOCKHOLM CUP DAYThe biggest day of racing in Sweden takes place on Sunday, with Stockholm Cup Day at Bro Park. Featuring the Gr.3 Stockholm Cup, the day also plays host to three Listed contests and a host of other competitive races on a nine-race card.

Although the day will go ahead without spectators as racing in Sweden remains behind closed doors, the card has still attracted a number of high-class performers, including several raiders from Britain and Germany who are making the trip in spite of the difficulties of travel at present. The event also highlights once again how closely linked the racing industries of Sweden, Norway and Denmark are, with each nation fielding roughly a third of the runners.

The feature of the day is of course the Gr.3 Stockholm Cup, run over 2400m on the turf course. Square De Luynes (Manduro),

A son of Malibu Moon (Lot 977) from KatieRich Farms went to West Bloodstock, acting for Robert and Lawana Low, for $610,000. The youngster is out of the Gr.2-placed Tiznow mare Fantasy Of Flight.

An Into Mischief colt from the family of French high-weight King Charlemagne (Lot 912) rang in at $600,000 to be sixth on the leaderboard. The full-brother to Gr.3 Southwest Stakes winner One Liner is out of the winning Cherokee Run mare Cayala, who was also placed in Germany. Her pairing with Into Mischief has resulted in two other winners from her four offspring of racing age. Spendthrift Farm and Myracehorse.com, co-owners of recent Gr.1 Kentucky Derby winner Authentic, also by Into Mischief, were the buyers.

“There are many nice [Into Mischief] yearlings out here,” said Spendthrift General Manager Ned Toffee, who signed the ticket. “They have always been well received in the market and there has definitely been a bump from the Derby result.”

West Point Thoroughbreds and Woodford Racing joined forces to add a Candy Ride colt (Lot 957) to their portfolio with a bid of $575,000. Offered under the Stonehaven Steadings banner, the colt is out of Gr.2 Demoiselle Stakes winner Dixie City (Dixie Union) and is a half-brother to Blue Chipper (Tiznow), a Champion Sprinter and Miler in Korea. Notable family members include Gr.2 Peter Pan Stakes winner Unified, who is also a son of Candy Ride.

Lot 920, a maternal grandson of Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home (Seeking The Gold), secured $510,000 from Maverick Racing. From the first crop of Mastery, the colt is out of the unraced Indian Charlie mare Chuckling whose relatives include three-time Gr.1-winning millionaire Guarana (Ghostzapper). Indian Creek was the vendor.

Two lots brought $500,000 to round out the top ten. Shadwell took home a Curlin colt (Lot 911) from Taylor Made Sales Agency, acting for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. Out of the unraced Malibu Moon mare Catch The Moon, he is a half brother to Gr.1 Haskell Invitational Stakes winner Girvin (Tale Of Ekati) and Gr.3 Iroquois Stakes winner Cocked And Loaded (Colonel John).

At the same price was an Into Mischief filly (Lot 1147) out of the Stakes-placed Dynaformer mare Samiam. Paramount Sales was the vendor and J. C. M. was the buyer.

The sale continues through to 25th September with sessions beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern time.

the very impressive winner of last year’s race, returns to defend his crown and Niels Petersen’s charge remains the one to beat, despite having run just once since his victory last year, when third last month in Gr.3 company in Norway. Among those who are taking him on are a trio of Swedish-breds, including last year’s runner-up Freestyler (Areion), as well as Master Bloom (Pastorius) and Espen Hill (Helsinki).

Archie Watson made a successful raid on this meeting last year, winning the Listed Bro Park Sprint Championship with Corinthia Knight, and the young trainer is back for another go in this year’s renewal. He runs Maystar (Mayson), successful last time out in Listed company at Deauville, while Andreas Wöhler runs Zerostress (Areion) who has been runner-up in both Gr.3 and Listed company in Germany this season.

The Listed Lanwades Stud Stakes has drawn a competitive field of 15 for the 1600m turf race. Among the notable runners in the line-up is the Swedish-bred Silent Night (Night Of Thunder), winner of this year’s 1,000 Guineas in both Sweden and Norway and also Listed-placed at Meydan over the winter. The three-year-old takes on older rivals for the first time, among them Seaside Song (Harbour Watch), a Listed winner in Norway last month, who is joined in the line-up by her Listed-placed half-sister Sea Race (Charm Spirit). Nouvelle Lune (Sea The Moon), a pricey yearling purchase in Germany, is chasing her first Listed success after two placed efforts, while the overseas runners include Jim Boyle’s Hateya (Footstepsinthesand), third in this race last year, as well as Ikigai (Sayif), Listed-placed in France last year, and Archie Watson’s recent novice winner Hidden Sky (Sea The Stars).

ZOOM CALL FOR ROYAL ASCOT’S WINNING BREEDERSInstead of a celebratory lunch, this year’s winning breeders from the Royal Ascot meeting made do with a zoom call yesterday, hosted by Ascot Chairman Sir Francis Brooke.

Six of the winners were from Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Shadwell operation and amongst the numerous “attendees” was Shadwell Stud Director Richard Lancaster, along with John Warren, representing The Queen, whose homebred colt Tactical won the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes.

Others to join in the call included representatives from Cheveley Park Stud, Coolmore and Darley, along with Pyledriver’s breeder Guy Leach, The Lir Jet’s breeder Donal Boylan and Electra Niarchos, whose family bred the meeting’s Gr.1 winners Circus Maximus and Alpine Star.

Square De Luynes (Manduro), pictured winning last year’s Gr.3 Stockholm Cup under Robert Havlin, returns to defend his crown at Bro Park on Sunday. © Elina Björklund/Svensk Galopp

The only dirt race on the card is the Listed Tattersalls Nickes Minneslopning over 1600m and it is all about one horse – Duca Di Como (Clodovil), unbeaten on dirt, who landed last year’s renewal by five lengths and has added a further three Listed victories to his tally this year, as well as finishing third in Gr.3 company.

Also on the card is the Svealandlopning over 1400m, the premier event for two-year-olds in Sweden. There are ten runners in the most exciting juvenile contest of the year, of which no fewer than seven were foaled in Ireland. That statistic once again highlights the significant investment that Scandinavian owners and trainers are making at the European sales.

    THOROUGHBRED SALES GUIDE

LOT 822 – GOFFS SPORTSMAN’S SALE bay filly by Acclamation ex Sulaalaat

Acclamation is a top sire who needs no introduction and we are a big fan of his in this column, having chosen his Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin-winning son Ventura Tormenta during last year’s yearling sales season. Rathbarry Stud’s stalwart has not been mated with New Approach mares very often, but it is an interesting cross, as they are both out of mares by Ahonoora. Although Ahonoora sired Classic-winning colts, it is as a broodmare sire that he is cementing his legacy on the breed, with his daughters Park Appeal and Park Express producing Cape Cross and New Approach respectively, not to mention Zodiac Miss, who produced the US Hall of Famer and multiple champion Azeri, and Dissemble, who foaled Eclipse Award winner Leroidesanimaux.

This filly is the second foal out of the New Approach mare Sulaalaat, who won a 6f Nottingham maiden by four lengths on her second start as a two-year-old for Brian Meehan and Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Shadwell operation and next time out she was fifth in the Gr.2 Lowther Stakes at York, which was won by the European Champion Two-Year-Old Tiggy Wiggy. That brought her to a career-high rating of 96 and, having won a 7f Doncaster handicap at three, she retired only a pound lower. She is a half-sister to five other winners out of the unraced Danehill Dreamer (Danehill), including the 95-rated pair Madeed (Nayef), a winner at two, and Fille De Reve (Iffraaj), who won three times at two and three, as well as the 87-rated three-year-old Dark Heart (Nathaniel), who won an extended 1m4f Newcastle novice for Mark Johnston earlier this year. Further back, the page is lit up by the names of the top-class performers The Fugue (Dansili), Limato (Tagula), Summoner (Inchinor) and Compton Admiral (Suave Dancer).
