India is a land of distinctive landscapes and locations. From north to south and east to west

different types of natural beauty can be observed. Located in Karnataka, Coorg is a small but

extremely beautiful tourist destination. Home to the Kodavas, the place has been popular for the

coffee grown their. The hills covered with plantation look so picturesque; the abundance of

scenic beauty is the reason why tourists from different part of the country visit Coorg and the

places near Coorg. The place holds historical importance as well, because the Kodavas had

rebelled against Tipu Sultan and had put up a fight against him. Tipu however, emerged

victorious and usurped the king from his land. There are many places which highlight the life

and lifestyle of the Kodavas. The places near Coorg are very beautiful; they must be visited too,

while travelling through Coorg.

Omkareshwar Temple: the temple was built by Lingarajendra II in the year 1820. Legend has it,

that the king had unjustly put a priest to death, and the spirit of the priest started to disturb the

king. Later, after the advice of the religious heads, the Kodava king, set up this temple is built in

the Muhammadan style in terms of architecture. The temple has a great structure and imparts

peace to the visitors their.

The abbey falls are one of the most popular waterfalls in the southern part of India. The Cauvery

River cascades from the height of almost seventy feet. One has to drive for around seven

kilometers from the main town to visit the spot. It is preferable for picnics with family and

friends.

The raja’s seat is one of the places near Coorg which must be visited. The place is considered to

be one of the top 5 scenic locations in the entire southern India. The king along with his partners

enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset from this spot. The hills act as an exquisite backdrop for

watching this breathtaking visual. The government has taken an initiative to develop the

surrounding area. A garden has already been set up, near the place. Tourist love to capture the

sunrise and sunset from there cameras, but nothing beats watching it in reality.

The Gaddige is yet one of those places near Coorg which must be visited. It is the tomb of the

famous Kodava kings Dodda Virarjendra & Lingarajendra II. Built in the Muhamadan style the

tomb has turrets and a central dome. The windows have engraving on it and are adorned by brass

designs.

Talacauvery is the source of the river Cauvery. It is a pilgrimage centre 44 kilometers away from

Madikeri. The place has spiritualistic beauty and pilgrims from all over India try to visit it, when

the water gushes out fro the Talacauvery. Not only pilgrims, but tourists also visit the place for

its picturesque beauty. Coorg is a hub of nature and travel enthusiasts because of the heavenly
