From the desk of Principal

Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Science is now ushering in an era of rejuvenation and development. The

role of an Ayurvedic pharmacist is being carved out as distinct from an Ayurvedic physician. Gujarat Ayurved

University has started a new course in Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences with a view to prepare

pharmacists particularly with a sound technical knowledge of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics and science of

Rasashastra and Dravyaguna. B.Pharm. (Ayu) degree is recognized by UGC under its Ac t.

The candidates with B.Pharm. (Ayu) degree will have acquired sound theoretical and practical

knowledge in classical methodology adopted for preparing Ayurvedic drugs and formulations. They have

studied Fundamentals of Ayurveda, Sharir Rachana and Kriya (Anatomy and Physiology), Rasashastra,

Bhaishajya kalpana and Dravyaguna (Science of medicinal plants) along with that of modern applied subjects

like pharmaceutical chemistry/analysis, pharmaceutical engineering, technology, Pharmacognosy,

pharmacology and other allied subjects.

It is very important that Ayurved pharmacy remains in the hands of duly qualified Ayurvedic

pharmacy graduates so as to have standard quality assured drugs free of toxicity and adverse drug

reactions.

The Ayurvedic pharmacy graduates will be better equipped for the manufacturing and analytical and

QC jobs in industry. The diploma students are prepared to go in as dispensing, community and hospital

pharmacists and can also work in basic manufacturing and drug store management fields. The post graduate

degree holders are also essential for academic pursuits and advanced learning.

The students are required to undergo practical training as apprentice trainee for at least one month

in selected manufacturing units anywhere in India. We, therefore, solicit industries to come forward for

accepting our students for paid apprentice programme during their college career. The Institute will

encourage campus interviews for eligible candidates if any industry or institution is interested in

picking up promising candidates. It is to bring your kind notice that our institute offering these professional

courses since last one decade. Our aluminies are working with renowned Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals

like Dabur, Arya vaidyashala, Emami, BAN Labs, Vasu Healthcare, Maharshi Ayurved to mention a few.

I am, therefore, enlightened to recommend these Ayurvedic pharmaceutical technocrats for different

jobs in Ayurvedic drug industry as well as academic institutions for the overall upliftment of Ayurved in its

original form with modernized expression and value addition.

The Science of Ayurved being accepted all over the world as the mother of all medicinal system. In the

legacy of Acharya Charak, it has been clearly stated the requirement of four basic requirements to

carry out treatment of an individual. The pharmacist is one of them described as ‘Paricharak’ meaning

Assistant to the physician with all respect.

The importance and requirement of Ayurvedic Pharmacist is now well accepted although it was not

distinctively considered as the paramedical profession in the classical Ayurvedic Practice. The Vaidya

used to perform all kinds of work to prepare and deliver medicine to the end consumer i.e. patient.

However the advancement with respect to numerous factors like regularity requirements in terms of

laws and acts, mass requirements, change in manufacturing practices due to upgraded technology

etc. gives rise to need of separate profession of Ayurvedic Pharmacist; who is skilled professional to

deal with all such challenges. He would definitely assist the Vaidya by taking care of all such issues

and deliver the standard ,quality Ayurvedic medicine for the mass population what Vaidya used

prepare himself for an individual.

The present form of curriculum of Ayurvedic Pharmacy was set by the stalwarts of Ayurved and

modern pharmaceutical systems. It is definite to say that an Ayurvedic Pharmacist skilled to

prepare the classical medicine of Ayurved at the same time equipped to deliver it in the latest

modernized form. The unique multidisciplinary skill of Ayurvedic Pharmacist makes him superiorly

qualified than a common Pharmacist.

We are proud that our aluminies are well placed in the reputed Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical field at

Himalaya, Emami, Multani, Maharshi, BAN Labs, Vasu Healthcare, Shree Dhanwantari Herbals, Arya

Vaidya Shala to name a few. We are also happy to receive such a placement requirement for the

entire industry.
