Meghan Trainor Video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDRORgoZxZU

Our IdeaThe rough outline of our video is:

- The audience see an insecure, unconfident, average woman in her bedroom dressed in average clothing

- As the video progresses, she has an ongoing daydream, triggered by hearing Meghans song.

- The audience get to see our artist - our version of Meghan, performing alongside the narrative of the average woman.

- The average woman gradually gains confidence after listening to the lyrics, and at the end of the video she comes out of her daydream. She also has the confidence to leave the house wearing a bright dress and walking with lots of confidence. We want to show that you can wear whatever you want and be confident, no matter whether its casual or smart.

- Our aim is to promote the concept of female empowerment.

Why did we choose this video?Fun and upbeat song.

Empowering and inspiring message within the song and the lyrics.

The lyrics enable us to make an interesting narrative.

The artist that we have chosen is popular, and easily recognisable.

The song is modern and up-to-date which suits both us, and our target audience.

Overall Vision Our overall vision is to split our video between a narrative and a performance from the artist.

Our performance will take place in various locations such as a bar area, party scene, and dance studio. We will use a variety of shots e.g. close ups, tracking shots.

Our narrative will focus on an average female, who represents the everyday woman. At the beginning, she is mopping and doing general everyday housework tasks whilst listening to Meghans Me Too and begins to daydream. As part of her daydream, she gains confidence, and is an embodiment of the lyrics and the message. There is a dress hanging up, however she is too insecure to wear it. She shows our audience that you can, and that you should be confident. The female also showcases a growth in person and allows the audience to easily follow her journey. And as a result, keeping them captivated and interested in our narrative. The narrative will be interesting, however not too complex for our target audience to follow and to understand.

Regarding the performance section, our artist will be shown through various long shots and close ups to conform to conventions of a pop music video; this will be included to allow us to show off the glamour aspect of pop artists and reveal a contrast between this character and the average female accentuating the difference.

In Meghan Trainors music videos, she often wears bright colours, which shows that she has an uplifting character and wants to entertain her audience. She often has her hair down and has had a variety of different colours, which shows that shes not afraid to change her image and be the person that she wants to be.

Meghan is often seen in dresses, which shows her feminine side, further reinforcing the message that women are powerful.

Meghan is often featured in her own in the music videos, showing her independence and that she can get to where she wants to be on her own. We wanted our brand image to be multi cultural to show diversity within the UK.

We want to show people that its good to feel confident, as after watching this video will hopefully help them in day to day life. This will also help to push people to believe in themselves and that they can achieve whatever they want to.

We want to promote female empowerment and make everything we do fun, which will further entertain our audience, whilst also sending out a positive message.

Brand Image

LocationsWe will be using a variety of locations throughout the video.

The average female will be mainly based in her bedroom. We want to make sure that she looks as average as possible to represent her age and gender. We will also have her in front of her mirror, and this is also found in

We will also be filming at a decking location which will act as our pub/caf scene. We will transform it and furnish it with waiters, table clothes, candles etc so that it is more believable.

The scene where we have the artist on television and the average female watching her will be filmed at a dance studio.

The final scene will be at a party location. This is where the car will pull up at, the paparazzi waiting to take photos of them outside, and also the party inside. The artist will address the camera (break the fourth wall) and sing to the camera.

Props/CostumeEach character in our music video will wear different costumes depending on how we want to portray them to the audience and regarding their personalities and beliefs.

Firstly, our artist character will be seen wearing glamorous costumes including dresses, sparkly outfits, quite heavy make up and high heels. This enables the audience to immediately recognize that this is a high class character and connotes fame and fortune.

Our talent or ordinary girl character will be seen in ordinary clothing to express normality. She will wear clothing involving jeans, t-shirts, jumpers etc in dark, bland colours at the start. This will change as the video progresses and as the character grows more confident. At the end of the video in her confident stage, she will be seen the dress that was seen hanging to show that she now has the confidence to wear the things that she wants.

Regarding waiters and drivers which are in our video, they will all be seen in suits or tuxedos as they appear in scenes with the artist meaning they must look high class, expensive and smart.

The following themes will be present in our video:

Female empowerment-For us our target audience is predominately teenage girls, so we really do want to create a video that empowers them. Its important for Teenage girls to feel worthy and validated so I think this is our most important theme.

Confidence Confidence is also a very important theme as we want to show how the average women gains the confidence to love herself throughout the narrative.

InsecuritiesWomen and teenage girls in particular suffer from many insecurities due to the media, so this theme is important to tackle in order to relate to our teenage audience.

Finding yourself Our teenage years are about growth and it is very important in the resolution that the average women in question finds out who she is. Themes

In Pop music videos the following elements are very common to see:

Dancing/ Dance routines The colours are normally bright Lyrics are often romantic, concerned with love and finding the Pop videos are upbeat and fastClose- ups of the artist Artists are costumed in clothing which is popular in the present society

In order for pop to be the recognisable genre it is, most pop videos should adhere to many of these pop conventions. Elements like dancing and bright colours are things we heavily want to feature in our own music video. The song Me Too By Meghan Trainor allows us to create a bright and fun video due to the upbeat nature of the song. We are going to have two narratives running throughout the song and dance routines will help us to connect these adjacent characters together. The average women in the video (Rachel) will gain inspiration from watching the Talent (Rene) performing the song. Genre Conventions

Cinematography High angles on the talent as she feels vulnerable Low angles on the artist as she is confidentLong shots of dancingClose ups of the artist, talent and dancers

Sound Lip syncing in time with the music

Editing Cuts to the beatShort takes as the song is very upbeatLonger takes to show the vulnerability of the talentMise en scene Casual clothing for the talentGlamourous dresses for the artist The talent will gradually gain confidence and begin to dress in more glamourous clothingHigh key lighting

Technical Conventions

Target Audience: How will we appeal to our target audience? Our target audience is both male and females, from the ages of around 12-18.

We chose this target audience because we felt that because we are still included within the group that we are creating our video for, we can ensure that it is both appropriate, and interesting for our viewers.

To appeal to our target audience, we will include the following things:

Short, snappy cuts so that you dont get bored.

Try to incorporate bright colours to make it aesthetically pleasing.

An empowering message, however make the narrative clear enough for young adults to understand.

Make it fun to watch
