Staff Profiles
Rebecca Bailey—Rasor Elementary
1. What was your first artistic memory?
Drawing on the walls of my house and my mom painting over
it before realizing it was just chocolate and she could have
washed it off.
2. What lead you into art ed?
I always enjoyed working with children and once i realized i
could combine art and children it was an easy choice.
3. What is your medium of choice?
I prefer 2D mixed media.
4. Who is your artistic inspiration?
This is difficult, i'm very into Ivan Yakuze and Fred Mutebi from
Uganda
5. Share a current read? Artistic, Ed, or Fun.
Just started Teach Like a Pirate and so far it's great!
6. What is your top goal for the year?
Make art a fun learning experience for each student at the school!
Individualize the class to appeal to each one!
Christine Miller – Williams High School
1. What was your first artistic memory? My earliest memory of
creating is from the 3rd
grade, standing against the wall of the school building at re-
cess and knitting. The boys teased me about knitting diapers, and although that mor-
tified me, it certainly didn’t slow me down!
2. What lead you into art ed? After a couple of decades of reinventing myself a few times
and trying many avenues as a professional textile artist, a steady salary and benefits
tipped the scales into a career in art education. Although I never had teaching art as
my ultimate goal, it has turned out to be one of the most meaningful and rewarding
things I have, or shall ever do in my lifetime.
Christine Miller – Williams High School Cont.
3. What is your medium of choice? FIBERS!!! I have had yarns and fabrics in my hands since I
was 8, and fibers and textiles are my first love. I have come to love many other processes
and materials and am grateful that I have been able to expand my artistic expressions, but
being a weaver of over 40 years now, it is the heartbeat of many of my creations, even when
fiber is not directly involved.
4. Who is your artistic inspiration? Wow – my students, the artists I see in my Artist of the Day
videos, nature, the world – art seems to happen very organically for me, so I guess all of the
influences are swimming in my head until they are ready to come out.
5. Share a current read? Artistic, Ed, or Fun. Thrive by Arianna Huffington – I read her book at
the end of last year and it really impacted my life & thinking! She talks about reconnecting to
ourselves in order not to just “survive”, but to “thrive”. There was so much juicy stuff in her
book, I started a Thrive Theme each week for my students, and am passing on her wisdom
along with great advice from this great blog, ‘Marc and Angel Hack Life’ at marcandan-
gel.com. Our students need all the advice they can get to learn how to thrive in their own life!
6. What is your top goal for the year? Make sure regional VASE runs smoothly!!! LOL! Serious-
ly, I’m missing my running buddy, Amy Semifero, as VASE moves to Williams! I’m sure it will
turn out fine, but I will really be able to breathe a sigh of relief when it’s behind me! Then, Mr.
Miller and I are off to Costa Rica for Spring Break!
Collin McGrane–PESH
1. What was your first artistic memory?
Aquatic drawing from Kindergarten
2. What lead you into art ed?
I was coaching swimming to pay through college,
I was in studio art…logic?
3. What is your medium of choice? Ceramics and Sculpture
4. Who is your artistic inspiration? The entire world
5. Share a current read? Artistic, Ed, or Fun.
Game of Thrones series…and Mastering Cone 6 glazes
6. What is your top goal for the year? Balance – between teaching, art making, and parenting
