““Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
By Bree Parks of Piper Glen
This scripture is one of my favorites that I lean on often, especially during this “new normal” in our world’s his-tory. The scripture refers to our life paths and spiritual growth; however, it also illuminated to me how our “yardscape” life can mimic our every-day life. That may seem like a stretch but let me explain…
As I now walk our incredibly beauti-ful neighborhood daily, I see so many neighbors creating new paths in their life. Residents are now outside play-ing with their kids, tending to their yards and gardens, biking, running, strolling, walking their dogs, and vis-iting with their neighbors like I have never seen before. Of course, we are
all keeping that six-foot barrier of social distancing between us, but how wonderful to see this new path of everyday life played out here in Piper Glen.
Looking to the future, I still see all of our new paths being filled with continual handwashing, because that is a good thing in my book, but with much deeper appreciation of non-socially distanc-ing precious time with friends and family.
One thing that is helping me through this time, in addition to my faith, is planning out with my husband the infinity-edge pool and spa we will be putting in (yes, he builds custom pools and spas, too). We excitedly walk our property mapping out the pool and all the pathways leading up to it. I want to have lots of stone pathways bordered with flowering shrubs highlighting this newest addition to our “yardscape.” He wants tons of paths filled with lighting in and around the pool. The bottom line is that we are making a conscious choice, in these uncertain times, to look forward; knowing that new paths aren’t always easy, but God will make them straight!

ght Michelle Harris became interested
in behavioral health after she had an experience with a family member who was dealing with significant mental stress. Here is Michelle’s story along with her thoughts on the current health crisis. It all began with a relative whose emotional issues became overwhelming…
I saw that there was a lot of stigma associated with that family member’s decision to receive inpatient hospital-ization. When I visited, the counselor intrigued my interest in how she helped my family. It was then I decid-ed that I also wanted to help others
address and overcome those com-mon stigmas connected with seeking mental health. So I studied to become a counselor, obtaining my Doctorate of Behavioral Health and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Indi-vidual and membership life coaching are all part of the services I now offer.
My specialty is partnering with Faith-Based Women to live holistically mind, body, and spirit. I also partner with women in discovering their life purpose and developing a strategic plan in aligning with their God-given purpose. With my innovative “Life Alignment Program” and “Fearless
Warrior Membership Circle,” my members are able to walk into their life purpose without compromise.
I currently see a significant increase in anxiety and stress levels. Families have had to shift drastically. Also, depression, due to the fact of lack of family connections and interaction. Even though they may be able to communicate by telephone or Face-Time, it’s not like human contact. There’s also complicated grief due to the lives that have been lost. And the family adjustments of having to home school and managing work have been significant.
Is There Any Hope for Me?
Dr. Michelle Harris Believes There Is!
In the current health crisis, many singles are deal-ing with deep loneliness and fear of what’s to come. Children have developed intense fear about the fu-ture. Panic and fear have people hoarding supplies and purchasing more weapons.
For those on the front lines in combatting the cur-rent virus, I expect to see an increase in Post-Trau-matic Stress Disorder requiring counseling and crisis response. Families directly affected should also seek help. We can also expect an increase in telehealth providers due to the need to ensure that people are able to have access.
Dr. Michelle Harris has authored two books, Heal-ing From Invisible Wounds and The Stress Factor, which are available on her website.
She is also available for personal counseling services. (During the “stay at home” require-ments, she will offer counseling by phone or video call.) To arrange a time with Dr. Harris of ANEW HEALTH SOLUTIONS, visit her website: www.drmichelle.faith

r When and how did you first get interested in art? I’ve been interested in art for as long as I can remember. I grew up taking art classes and spend-ing my free time drawing and making everything from paper mâché to macrame, but I didn’t begin painting until I was 40.
How would you describe your style? Do you favor certain subject matter? I have a painterly, impressionistic style. I use large brushes and a palette knife for much of my work. It’s loose, a little messy and intuitive. I love to paint anything coastal. I particularly enjoy painting water with a palette knife and lots of drips.
How can art lovers view and purchase your work? I sell my work via my website and through
various shows and locations in the Carolinas, including Art House Charlotte, Cotswold Marketplace, BOCO art in Greenville, and Christenberry Collection in Columbia, Sumter and Charleston. I have a studio in our home and also normally work from my studio at StudioWorks Artist Collective and Gallery on East Boulevard. We participate in the First Friday Gallery Crawl each month which is a nice way to see and purchase the work of many different artists.
Most of my collectors are female; some are seasoned art buyers and others are purchasing art for the first time.
What feelings do you experience when you’re working on a piece? I tend to go through a process that begins with optimism and the joy of a clean slate. Then I often get frustrated, think it looks terrible, and have to make myself continue. After that, I often get lost in the process and lose a sense of time. That’s the best part.
An Interview with Piper Glen Painter, Pamela Wingard
She Makes Colors COME ALIVE!
I take commissions for specific work in my style. My latest commissions include large pieces for a commercial space in the South End and a golf resort in Naples, FL. I also regularly post new work on Instagram at @barefootstudios. I release my work in collections about four or five times a year, and those include various sizes, from small paintings to oversized canvases. I offer the first opportunity to purchase my work a day early to my newsletter recipients.

PeaceEvery American has been affected in some way by this year’s health crisis. Perhaps a loved one had the virus, a job or business suffered or was even closed, stocks lost value, and relationships were strained. Feelings of hopelessness, fear, or deep loneliness may be great in such times.
Many have found strength and hope in the words of this psalm written by a shepherd boy named David over 3000 years ago.
1 I will always thank the Lord;I will never stop praising him.
2 I will praise him for what he has done;may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!
3 Proclaim with me the Lord’s greatness;let us praise his name together!
4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me;he freed me from all my fears.
5 The oppressed look to him and are glad;they will never be disappointed.
6 The helpless call to him, and he answers;he saves them from all their troubles.
7 His angel guards those who honor the Lordand rescues them from danger.
8 Find out for yourself how good the Lord is.Happy are those who find safety with him.
Psalm 34:1-4 (GNT)

piper glen ridesWhen Wendy Underwood saw her beautiful 1993 Porsche 968, she fell in love. She spotted it at Manhattan Porsche in Rockville, Maryland, and drove it right off the showroom floor. Since then, she has driven it over 130,000 fun-filled miles and has put its capacity to the test, even using it to haul a ten-foot Christmas tree home in the trunk!
The Porsche 968 is a redesign of the 944 model. The 968 design was done by Harm Lagaay. The model
is a two-door coupe, front-engine, rear-wheel drive, 3.0 liter, 4-cylinder, 6-speed manual transmission manufactured in Porsche’s own factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany.
The 968’s engine was the second-largest 4-cylinder ever offered in a production car, and
the most powerful naturally-aspi-rated 4-cylinder engine ever sold in a production automobile up to that time. Only 2,701 of the 968s were manufactured in 1993.
Wendy still loves her shiny black Porsche and can be found driving it around town with her sweet little doggy as the copilot! If you happen to see a black Porsche carrying an oversized Christmas tree in the trunk around December, there’s a good chance you’ve spotted Wendy!
