You do not need to be a Girl Scout to attend Pioneering Your Future! e n g i n e e r i n g a n d m a t h e m a t i c s f o r g i r l s i n g r a de s 6 - 8 C a r e e r e x p l o r a t i o n i n s c i e n c e , t e c h n o l o gy , Here are some great careers to fulfill your dreams. Ready to explore? Choose two areas of interest. 1. Horticulture: Ornamental horticulturalists may grow and sell nursery stock and/or become landscape architects. Horticulture also involves growing vegetables and fruits so horticulturists may become truck farmers and sell their produce to restaurants, at local farmers’ markets, or in co-ops. Horticulturalists also do research on growing fruits and vegetables. 2. Biotechnology: Biotechnologists create products intended to improve the quality of human life, to heal diseases, to solve crimes and to find missing individuals. Biotechnologists use knowledge and skills from many science areas to save the lives of humans and animals. 3. Transportation Engineering: A hands-on profession that allows you to work with communities to creatively design and build safe and efficient interconnected transportation networks that include roadways, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, airports, transit, railroads and waterways. 4. Computer Science: Love your computer? Computer science explores new ways to make computers work for us. Careers in programming, artificial intelligence and web development are possibilities. 5. Renewable Energy: Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. All we can do is transform energy and do work along the way. If you want to learn more about careers that help develop better sources of energy as well as sustainable sources, you will want to visit this presentation. 6. Nanotechnology: Technology goes tiny! Machines smaller than the size of an ant? Building blocks made by atoms? By taking advantage of the unique properties of structures and materials down to nanometer scale, scientists and engineers from different disciplines (chemistry, physics, biology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and more) are working on the technology that may lead to the next industrial revolution—nanotechnology. 7. Mathematics: Math is more than working with numbers. People who like math might explore space, make models of ecological systems to sustain the earth, or gather data to make medicines more effective. Every career uses math. 8. Industrial Technology: People in this field create new products and processes, build houses, teach young people and preserve safe work environments. They solve technical and human problems in the industrial world. Pioneering Your Future
