Just as professional dubbing studios need tobe fine-tuned for optimal performance, so dohome theater systems. The question is: howcan you optimize your home theater systemwithout an expert’s help?

The answer: Pioneer’s Multi-ChannelAcoustic Calibration System, or MCACC.Based on years of research at our R&D cen-ter, MCACC is the world’s first fully automat-ed acoustic calibration system. It evaluatesthe acoustic characteristics of your mediaroom and calibrates the speaker systemaccordingly, for professional-level sonic per-formance. It works in any room, regardless ofshape or size.

M E A S U R E M E N T A N D C A L I B R A T I O N

MCACC sends out pinknoise signals and testtones that are read bya sensitive calibrationmicrophone, measur-ing the response fromeach of the multi-channel speakers in yoursystem. MCACC then performs these fiveprocesses:

• Checks for the absence or presence of con-nected speakers.

• Detects speaker size (large or small)

• Equalizes for the distances betweenspeakers.

• Neutralizes any differences in sound pres-sure level.

• Performs frequency equalization to avoidphase-shift, which deteriorates soundquality.

There are two separate frequency equaliza-tion modes: one for flat curve (All-ChannelEQ) and the other for aligning to the frontleft and right speakers (Front Alignment EQ).Once set-up is complete, you can select oneof these two EQ settings.

• All-Channel EQ equalizes all speakers, cre-ating a much flatter frequency response.

• Front Alignment EQ doesn’t make anyadjustment for the main front left and rightspeakers but equalizes the others (center,surround right and left, surround-back rightand left) to match the tonal character ofyour main speakers.

In addition, the VSX-59TXi, VSX-56TXi, andVSX-54TX incorporate a new and improvedAdvanced MCACC system which provideseven higher precision. By applying TimeAligned Dynamic Acoustic Treatment,Advanced MCACC can distinguish betweendirect sound and room reverberations.

Using a PC connected to the units’ RS232output, you can actually view 3-dimension-al graphics of each channel’s frequencyresponse — your room’s acoustic signature.

Unlike regular receivers’ 2-D chassis design,our revolutionary 3-D space frame construc-tion provides superb physical strength.Also, each receiver is divided with insulatingshields into three blocks: the digital proces-sor, the power- & pre-amplifier, and thepower supply sections. This constructiondesign serves two purposes: it prevents thedigital circuits from affecting the analog cir-cuits, and it increases the rigidity of the cab-inet structure.
