    NORTH AMERICAN PRECIS

    SYNDICATE

Each year, organized groups ofcriminals target and victimize thou-sands of Americans by telephone,e-mails and through the mail but

you can protect yourself and yourfamily.

    The United States Postal Inspec-

tion Service has documented over$42 million in losses from this typeof fraud. In some cases, people havelost their homes and their savings

by chasing the dream of a big lot-tery jackpot.

Inspector Paul Krenn advises,One of the main techniques scam-mers use is a foreign lottery scam,

where they tell you to send moneyto pay for taxes or fees. If youvereceived a suspected fraud via mailor if the mail was used to continuea crime started online, over thephone or in person, report it to TheU.S. Postal Inspection Service.

    WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Here are a few facts and signs toconsider:

nScammers are using new tech-niques, such as legitimate mail-ing lists and new technology. Theyspoof caller ID to make it look asif theyre calling from the U.S. oreven a government agency.

n Older consumers, especiallyshut-ins, are often a favorite targetfor foreign lottery fraud. Look outfor checks written or money wiredinternationally; a telephone thatrings constantly; or a stack of lot-tery or sweepstakes entries.

    nScammers are constantly up-

dating their methods. One of theirlatest tricks is to convince you that

youve won a foreign lottery and allyou need to do is wire a small pro-cessing fee (relative to the giganticprize). Dont youll never see thatmoney again.

n Beware of calls from foreigncountries, especially if theyre call-ing an elderly person.

nIf you or a loved one receivesan unsolicited offer, hang up thephone or delete the e-mail.

nDont give out personal or f-nancial information to anyone overthe Internet or phone.

nNever wire or send money to

anyone, anywhere, who says youhave won a foreign lottery.

nDont let anyone pressure youinto making an immediate deci-sion.

nNever purchase anything untilyou get all information in writing.

    WHERE TO GET HELp

To help people recognize andprevent frauds and scams, The U.S.Postal Inspection Service set up a

website, www.deliveringtrust.com.At the site, you can educate yourself, share the information with familyand friends, and report suspectedfraud sent through the U.S. mail.

Dont fall for foreign lottery fraud

BEING CAREFUL: Foreign lottery fraud, a criminal practice wherescammers entice U.S. consumers to send money and even provide bankand credit card information, is a growing problem that can have devastat-ing and long-lasting effects on victims and their families.

Lakeview Youth Clinic Speaks Out onImportance Funding and Supporting

    School-Linked ClinicsStaff and Student Representatives

Travel to State Capitol March 13

LAKEVIEW, Mich., March 7, 2012 On Tuesday, March 13,

staff of Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospitals Lakeview Youth Clinic

and student representatives from Lakeview Community Schools

will travel to the State Capitol in Lansing in conjunction with the

School-Community Health Alliance of Michigans (SCHA-MI) An-

    nual Advocacy Day.

The Lakeview Youth Clinic is a member of SCHA-MI, a collabora-tion of individuals and organizations that represent and support

    school-based and school-linked health care. http://www.scha-mi.

    org/index.html

Those representing the Lakeview Youth Clinic will have the unique

opportunity to meet with State Representative, Dave Camp (R-

Midland), and share the importance of school-linked health care in

greater Lakeview, as well as the difference the Clinic has already

made since opening in November 2011.

They will be involved with discussions surrounding policy updates

in this field and how they may affect services to the community.

We are thrilled at this opportunity to meet with Representative

Camp and share more about how the Lakeview Youth Clinic is

benefiting local adolescents, said Jodi Aniszko, Program Man-

ager for the Clinic. Its vital that our local, state and national

leaders understand the importance of our clinic, and others like it,in order to maintain and increase support and funding.

The Lakeview Youth Clinic is a school-linked adolescent health

center. Housed in the Kelsey Hospital Medical Specialty Center

(420 South Lincoln Street) the Clinic comes as result of a recent

grant obtained by Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital from the

Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH).

The Clinic takes a team approach to care, allowing the adolescent,

his or her parents and the healthcare provider to become partners

in decision making. All employees of Lakeview Youth Clinic are

highly involved in the surrounding communities and have access

to resources such as social service agencies and human services

organizations. The Lakeview Youth Clinic is open to adolescents

    ages 10 - 21 from all communities.
