Ten tips for vehicle maintenanceNorth AmericAN Precis syNdicAte

Before taking to the waterways, plot a course to safety. GEICO In-surance Agency and the U.S. CoastGuard recommend the following:

    1. Always wear a life jacket The U.S. Coast Guard requiresthat all recreational boats mustcarry one Coast Guard-approvedlife jacket for each person aboard.Life jackets should be tested yearlyand must be the appropriate sizefor the intended user.

    2. Check the weather fore-cast A calm, sunny day canquickly turn into a deadly storm.Check the weather forecast before

venturing out. Also, keep a radio onboard to receive weather updatesand advisories.

    3. Take a boater safetycourse Learn the proper regula-tions and safety precautions. Moststates require operators to pass

    boater safety requirements and dis-

play their safety certificate.4. Dont drink and boat According to the U.S. Coast Guard, boating while intoxicated (BWI) isa leading cause of fatal boating ac-cidents. Alcohol affects judgmentand vision, increasing the likeli-hood of an accident. Its illegal tooperate a boat while under the in-fluence of alcohol.

    5. Preventative boat main-tenance Regularly checking

your equipment for safety ensuresthat it will perform better, reducedepreciation and save on costly re-pairs.

    6. Operate at a safe speed

    Excessive speeding is a leading

cause of all reported boating acci-

dents. Operate your boat at a safespeed and stay aware of traffic den-sity and navigation hazards.

    7. Learn the rules of the wa-terway Waterways dont havetraffic signals to direct boater traf-fic. So boaters must depend oneach other by observing safety pre-cautions and navigational rules toprevent mishaps.

    8. Hypothermia is a risk Avoid entering the water when thetemperature is below 59 F. Symp-toms include a decrease in bodytemperature, uncontrolled breath-ing and unconsciousness. Whenplanning your trip, pack dry cloth-

ing in a waterproof bag and never

    go out alone.

    9. Install a carbon mon-oxide detector Internal com-

bustion engines on boats emit aharmful, odorless gas called carbonmonoxide. The symptoms are simi-lar to seasickness or alcohol intoxi-cation. All boats with an enclosedcabin need to be equipped with acarbon monoxide detector.

    10. Create a foat plan In-form a friend or family member of

your boating plans and when youare expected to return. This infor-mation will aid officials if an acci-dent occurs.

Hyaluronan. Could this be a Wonder Drug?Hyaluronan is one of natures most essential molecules for maintaining life. It

is found naturally in all the tissues and fluids of the body and is the same in allmammals. It is an extremely hydrophilic molecule, absorbing and managing upto 1000 times its weight in water. Hyaluronan fills the voids between tissue cellswhere it helps them divide, grow, communicate and heal. It plays many vital rolesin the body from conception and fetal development to skin and tissue hydration, immune system support, cartilage formation, and joint lubrication. Pharmacologicroles include the relief of pain and inflammation.

Some people are familiar with Hyaluronic Acid shots that are given in the jointsfor severe degenerative arthritis. We have found a stable oral version of that whichsees to provide outstanding relief of chronic joint pain.

It is called Baxyl or MHB3. It is microbially fermented, avoiding the risks associatedwith hyaluronan from animal and avian sources. MHB3 is the only oral hyaluronanwith blinded, placebo controlled studies demonstrating safety andefficacy Additionally, with MHB3 there have been no serious sideeffects, drug interactions, or contraindications.

It is a little pricey at $40 per month, but it is flying off the shelf soit must be working. Incidentally it is extremely good for treatmentof dry eyes.
