The original tutorial can be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-68180-1.htmThis tutorial was created by Tara Tarbet (Welcome Home Farm)

1.! Start with 2 different 4-patch squares. My patches are 4.5” so I could trim the final blocks to 6 1/2”

All seams in this step are pressed toward the dark fabric.

2.! Cut along both diagonals on both squares.

3.! Patches look like this after cutting along the diagonal.

Each section of each block is now labeled (ex. Block A contains sub-blocks A1, A2, A3, and A4). The labels are on the light fabric, but the entire triangle section is named.

All photos will have the patches in the original orientation so you can see which piece was cut or moved between photos.

5.! Sew triangles together as in photo.

You can sew one block completely before sewing the next block, it is easier to show one half at a time in photos.

6.! Press so that all seams go in the same direction. Doing that makes it easier to sew the halves together.

7.! Sew both halves of the squares together.

8.! My ruler is 3” wide. Place the center line of the ruler on the center seam of the block. Cut on both sides of the ruler.

Using any ruler, cut 1 1/2” from the center on both sides of the center seam.

8a.!Photo after cutting on either side of the center seam.

10.!Look closely at the photos in steps 9 and 10.

Rotate the center blocks 180˚ on all 4 sides of both blocks. (Arrows only show which sub-blocks are rotated on the left block to avoid too much clutter in the photos.

You may also decide to rotate the center pinwheel, but I did not do that in the demonstration blocks.

9.! Cut along the center seam in the other direction, 1 1/2” from the center seam.

You now have 9 patches.

11.!Sew in rows as you would sew any 9-patch.

12.!Press seams in opposite directions so the block rows can be sewn together more easily.

! Finished Pinwheel Disappearing 4-Patch blocks. You end up with two blocks that are opposite of each other.

! The top left and bottom right blocks are my original blocks, the top right and bottom left are the blocks from the photos. The original blocks also have the center pinwheel rotated.

! My first blocks with the center pinwheel rotated.
