Construction:

Note: All seam allowances are ¼”.Seams can be pressed either open or to the darkest fabric. When drawing line markings on fabric use a fabric pen or chalk.

1. Gather the 3.25” squares and match the squares in the following order:a. 1 x Fabric D (ribbon) + 1 x Fabric C (ornament top)b. 3 x Fabric D (ribbon) + 3 x Fabric A (ornament)c. 4 x Fabric A (ornament) + 4 x Fabric E (background)d. 5 x Fabric D (ribbon) + 5 x Fabric E (background)

2. Draw a diagonal line, from corner to corner, on the wrong side of all Fabric E and Fabric D 3.25” squares.

3. Layer one marked 3.25” square with its partner (as listed in step 1), right sides together. Sew ¼” on each side of the line. Cut on the line. Press and trim to 2.5” square. This makes 2 Half Square Triangles (HSTs).

4. Cut on the line. Press and trim to 2.5” square. This makes 2 Half Square Triangles (HSTs).

TIP: Line up the 45 degree line on your ruler against the fabric join and use it to square up your block before trimming.

5. Repeat step 3 to make a total of 26 HSTs. You should have the following HST combinations:a. 2 x Fabric D (ribbon) + Fabric C (ornament top)b. 6 x Fabric D (ribbon) + Fabric A (ornament)c. 8 x Fabric A (ornament) + Fabric E (background)d. 10 x Fabric D (ribbon) + Fabric E (background)

6. Lay out the 2.5” squares and 2.5” HSTs in the following order:

7. Sew the 2.5” squares together in their columns as per the diagram:

TIP: You can chain piece these squares together to make the process quicker. Just press the seams, as per your personal preference, once they’re all joined.

8. Join the outer 2 columns on each side of the ornament to each other via their longest side. Take the joined 2 columns and join 1 of the 8.5” x 4.5” rectangles to the top of the columns, as per the diagram:

9. Join all columns on their longest sides as per the diagram:

10. On the top and bottom of the completed ornament join 1 of the 2.5” x 26.5” rectangles.

11. Layer and baste the backing fabric, batting, and quilt top. Use your preferred method to quilt, bind and attach a hanging sleeve to your project.

Finished wall hanging measures: 26” x 32”
