ContrastI deal with contrast a lot. If a piece of art or a photograph does not have enough contrast it will not print well. You can’t see what is in the picture. M-W.com defi nes contrast as the difference or degree of dif-ference between things having similar or comparable nature. Without contrast there is no image; either there is a blank canvas or the canvas is full of similar components. Some prefer just enough contrast to have what they consider to be soft and relaxing, others prefer what I would call clutter. In art, I like an intense

arrangement of dissimilar elements. I believe contrast creates passion. I do not see how one could be passionate about something that is barely visible or too chaotic. But, as we all know, art is subjective... How do you react when something enters your experience that is very different from your preference? When the situation seems to be a polar opposite, do you feel vulnerable and weak or excited and energized? When people enter your life you notice either your similarities or your differences. You may use that to determine whether you like them or not. You will notice all the things you have in common with a new friend, but when you decide not to be friends with someone or don’t like someone on fi rst impression, you will focus on the contrast. In life, my preference is to be challenged just enough for growth. I don’t want everybody to agree with me, but I do like to share my space with people who have similar interests. There is comfort in similarities. Children encourage growth. They are always ready for a new experience. My daughter sees right through me, and my son is exactly like me. I see what I like about myself in my son, and I see how much simpler life could be through my daughter’s eyes. They are very different but appreciate what they have to teach each other. I believe we live for contrast. Once we embrace a moment that is full of opposi-tion we can see what we really want. Like the Ying and the Yang; without light there is not darkness and without dark-ness you can’t see the light. I challenge you to say, “That is what I want” instead of focusing on, ‘that is what I do not want’. It will change your life. Did you notice a new look and a lot of new faces in Piney Woods Live this is-sue? Thanks to Randi, Gary, Tracy and the rest of the crew we are better able to fi nd and display all of the wonderful Piney Woods Artists. About the cover:This painting is especially meaningful to us at Mount Vernon Music, as it was done by an audi-ence member at one of our concerts. We were unaware the artist even had the idea of painting the event, and were surprised and delighted when she shared it with us. She also created some beautiful note cards from this image. We love the atmosphere in MVM Hall, with all the color of the windows, the stage lighting, and the general feeling of being close to the performers and to what they are doing. We think Annie captured that perfectly.

Here is a little information about the artist Annie Coughlin:

I was born in Belgium and came to this country in 1950. I studied art in college and majored in Elementary Education. I took up watercolor painting after retiring from teaching. I studied with teachers in the Philadelphia area as well as attending many workshops in Europe and the United States. I have a loose style and love to experiment with colors. Capturing the atmo-sphere and beauty around me are an integral part of my paintings.

Every Thursday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. join Caffè Tazza in celebrating local artists and musicians.

On Thursday nights, local artists are the stars. The featured artist’s work is dis-played on 6 panels for you to enjoy and contemplate. You can meet the artist and discuss his or her work, as well as purchase the art for your personal enjoy-ment!

Local musicians provide entertainment ranging from duo Spanish guitars, with their intertwining melodies, to lilting folk tunes that bring back long lost memo-ries. The musicians are professionals and teachers who bring creativity and beauty to the café through their songs.

Thursday Night Art & Music at Caffè TazzaSit back and soak in the atmosphere as you enjoy delicious food and wine, or the most amazing cup of coffee in East Texas. It is your chance to escape to a place where time stands still for a few hours while you relax and enjoy an art-ist’s hours of labor, the sounds of a skilled musician, and savor the handmade food of a caring cook while you enjoy wines straight from the vineyards of Italy. What could be better?

Caffè Tazza is located in the La Piazza Shopping Center at 4815 Old Bullard Road in Tyler, Texas. Call 903/581-6601 or visit www.caffetazza.net for more information.

The Tyler Museum of Art will open two exhibitions in September, both of which feature Texas artists.

Substance & Form: The Art of George Tobolowsky will be on view inthe Museum’s Bell Gallery, September 5 – November 28 and is organized by Grace Museum in Abilene. Collectors’ Circle Sponsors (as of print date) are Betty and Dick Summers. The exhibition showcases steel and stainless steel sculptures created by George Tobolowsky who uses found objects such as scrap metal and discarded machine parts.

A Dallas-based attorney and businessman, To-bolowsky had his fi rst soloexhibition in 2006, imme-diately garnering critical acclaim for his unique handling of unusual materials. Through his works, familiar objects are reborn; wasted metals are revived. The fi nal product solicits both recognition and surprise from view-ers, making Tobolowsky’s

work accessible and appealing to a broad audience. “Tobolowsky is an important contemporary artist in Texas, and we are excited to bring his work to TMA,” said TMA Director Kimberley Bush Tomio. “In addition to the works on view in thegallery, we will also have four impressive sculptures installed outside on Museum grounds. This is a dynamic exhibition that I think will be nicely complimented by the Griffi th exhibition, yet another example of exceptional Texas art.”

L.O. Griffi th: Painting the Texas Landscape will be on view in the North Gallery September 19, 2010 - January 2, 2011. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for TMA Members. The exhibition is organized by the TMA and will feature over 70 pieces by early Texas artist L.O. (Louis Oscar) Griffi th (1875 -1956), artworks that have not been featured in a major exhibition in over 70 years. Corporate sponsor for L.O. Griffi th: Painting the Texas Landscape is Gene-cov Group. Collectors’ Circle sponsors are the Robert M. Rogers Foundation and Mr. and Mrs. John Glass, Jr. Griffi th’s works were largely inspired by and created during sketching trips through West Texas that he took with mentor Frank Reaugh, a legendary Dallas based artist and teacher. The works depict a landscape that was endlessly inspiring to Griffi th, who captured the rough character of the West Texas landscape with a soft hand and delicate rendering. Once primarily recognized as an American Impressionist, Griffi th emerges before us as one of the early Texas artists whose eye was captivated by the striking, unparalleled color and texture of the state’s terrain.

Terry Hawkins hosts a concert at the Tyler Street Bistrofor Kate Klim & Kim Rich-ardson Sunday, September 5th at 3:00 Labor Day Weekend. The concert is free; donations encouraged to help with the artists expenses. Kate is a gift-ed singer/songwriter that plays keyboard and was a Kerrville

New Folk Award winner at the 2010 Kerrville Folk Festival. Kim Richardson another New Folk Winner, thrives on involving the audi-ence. Richardson encourages her fans to “experience” her shows rather than just watch and listen. Kim’s songs live with a lot of humor and at-titude, accompanied by a percussive acoustic guitar. A great opportunity to see two of the six winners from the Kerrville Festival!

Darlene A. Rouse started her painting career stuck on the outskirts of a little town in Texas. While praying and painting on her kitchen wall, she got her answer. She was commissioned to paint a mural in a new restaurant in the town square. From that time forward she never turned back,work came on a regular basis.

During her many travels, she saw great works of art; her most memorable was going through The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, where herpassion for Art ignited. You can view or purchase her work at Pottery Design, 1017 Fourth Street - Longview. Painting lessons? [email protected]

Songwriter/ Guitar Picker: “My fi rst performance was in front of my 5th grade class. I got hooked on applause and smiles. I’ve been having fun with songwriting and my guitar ever since. My songs refl ect nature, relationships, and everyday life. My aspiration in songwriting is to be recorded by a popular bluegrass or country performer. Music has always been a creative outlet for me to wind down.

The band I play in is called Coyote Moon, each year we perform at the Gregg County Fair. Lookfor us there in September. CD’s available at Gold Rush Mercantile & Trading Co. in Longview or contact me at [email protected] or 903-256-0878.”

Guthrie Kennard has been a staple of Americana and blues for nearly four de-cades. He is perhaps best known as a blues bassist and has been a sideman to some of the grittiest, gutsi-est renegade artists outthere, including Ray Wylie Hubbard and Smokin' Joe Kubek. But Guthrie also has his own voice and his own songs.

Matchbox is the newest release to come from the Texas roadhouse troubadour. Kennard’s meaty, skillful songwriting and unmistakable growl take the listener down a dusty road fi lled with juke joints and fi shin’ holes. His new album "Match-box" is currently at #2 on the EuroAmericana Charts. Matchbox is a must-hear album of 2010! http://www.shuteyerecords.com.

“Jazz Funeral” is one of three large wire wall murals by Bart Soutendijk on display this month at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts. Bart, a resident of Quitman, TX, makes wall mounted wire murals for public, commercial and resi-dential locations. The wire pieces are the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. He makes and remakes a line drawing to emphasize only the essence of the subject, then, like the poet who reviews every word, he re-examines every turn and curve as he bends the wire into a sculpture -- a large line drawing in space. The final installation, a solid line in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large space without dominating the room. His work has been purchased by collec-tors from all over the world.

Mafi oso leader Tony Alto got “toasted” in his car. Now you’re invited to the wake to meet all the crazy families gathered to pay their last respects to their boss, and maybe even fi gure out “Who Done It?”

Winnsboro Center for the Arts proudly pres-ents The Altos, Like “The Sopranos,” Only Lower”—a song and dance murder mystery spoof of the hit HBO series “The Sopranos.” The Italian cuisine of this Dinner Theatre is exceptional. Tickets (Adult Fare $30) are now available in downtown Winnsboro at Copper Leaf Spa, Slender Lady, Brewbaker’s (Winns-boro Bakery) and the Chamber of Commerce at the Depot. Tickets may be purchased on credit card by phone at WCA by calling 903-638-1960, later available at “Will Call” at 7:00, one-half hour before the play begins at 7:30pm.

As part of this interactive mystery, the audi-ence members write down clues provided by the actors. Those who correctly solve the mystery receive a prize. It’s fun and games and hi-jinks with these mobsters, one of whom has committed “murder.” The audience is invited to join in the fun by wearing “mobster” gear (no real guns, please).

The all-star cast, in order of appearance, in-cludes: Randy Lindsey, Maryann Miller, Doug Grantham, David Daugherty, Kat Sillick, Mia Tallant, Tony Grosso and Gus Gustafson. The play is directed by Randy Lindsey, written by David Landau, music & lyrics by Nikki Stern. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, New York City, USA.

VINTAGE 15 -LONGVIEW, TX ROOTS

The Vintage 15 proves to be a compelling listen from the start. Music Director and sea-soned trumpet player/bandleader Steve More-land, has assembled fi fteen fresh faces from all over the country to carve out a corner of the Austin, Texas jazz scene. The Vintage 15 take their name from a literal place and the music is built on the heritage of The Great American Song Book.

The Vintage 15’s angle of youth and experi-ence is the fi rst thing one might notice about this band of twenty to thirty something year old jazz lovers, whose line-up is as follows: Steve Moreland - Band Director/Trumpet; Drew Bennett - Lead Vocals; Owen Summers, James Zuniga, Wes Peart, Robert Perkins – Sax; Jon Merz, Tori Hamill Longview, Texas, Kyle Johnson – Trombone; Derrick Becker, Dee Spencer – Trumpet; Victoria Sanchez – Vocals; Mike St. Clair, Derek Tarnow, Zach Knox, Jason Flenniken - Rhythm Section.Sanchez was a rising talent in the Austin music scene, having most recently been a part of Austin’s local, Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes. “She stepped up to the mic and blew every-body away with her voice,” said Bennett. “We knew instantly that she was the one to com-plete the band.”

Developing fresh takes on classic jazz stan-dards has been the goal since. In late January, the band entered the studio to record with Aus-tin producer and guitarist, Bradley Kopp. They turned out an EP with plans on adding more tracks to their fi rst album by the end of 2010. www.vintage15.com

The fourth annual Spooky Art Show is scheduled on Octo-ber 30, 2010. Children from all grades at all Longview and surrounding schools are invited to make Halloween art to hang in the museum. Families are invited to attend the show to see their children’s art hanging at no charge. Last year’s events included a costume contest and a pumpkin carving contest with a middle school string ensemble from Judson Middle School that played scary music. A Pet Parade and Fun Run have also been discussed. We have a Haunted Hall for older children for a nominal fee.

That evening beginning at 7 pm, LMFA is hosting a free street dance in front of the museum on Tyler Street. Family Court Judge Tim Wommack’s band Galaxy will be playing for our “Monster Mash” celebrating fall, lit by the museum’s new canopies. Costumes are optional this year since it's the day before Halloween! A photo of a 2008 street dance is shown above.

Each year Spring Hill High School art instructor and LMFA Advisory Board member Howard "Bud" Dunn brings us the best promotional art for the museum to advertise this activity. This year's art features Edward Munch’s The Scream complete with Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster added in the background and a werewolf in the foreground. We will use his art for post-ers and hopefully t-shirts. Please contact Renee Hawkins, Executive Direc-tor Longview Museum of Fine Arts, 215 E. While on a recent visit to my hometown of Longview, my parents and I drove downtown to try the Thai food at Lil’ Thai House. I was surprised enough to dis-cover that Longview now has a Thai restaurant -- but the thing that surprised me more was all the people! It was a weekday, and despite the intermittent rain, there were people everywhere, walking around and enjoying themselves. The air was lively with music from the restaurants and clubs, and a young man watched the passerby from the balcony of his second floor apartment. We soon discovered that we had stumbled across Art Walk Downtown Longview which is a self guided tour of downtown businesses exhibiting and selling art.

I can remember, as a child, a time when the down-town business district presented a very different picture. It was a place you went only if you had to, and certainly you would not linger too long on the street at night. Sure, it had a sort of charm. Armadillo

Willy’s, nestled behind that overhanging tree where Gerald’s is today, was a sort of outpost, where Kenny Wayne Shepherd once played.

The city, however, was headed north. For decades, Longview, like many towns and cities in America, believed that it should expand outward. Our tight-knit East Texas community, with its modern high school hidden among towering pine trees, had changed from an old oil boom town into something more sprawling and suburban. There were larger stores, with plenty of new things to buy, but somehow they didn’t feel as much like Longview. Some of those parking lots and shopping centers, while certainly convenient and necessary, could be Anywhere, USA.

Longview has always had a certain sense of history, so it’s fitting that the city is looking back to its old downtown. Revitalizing this area has helped a number of local businesses to thrive, encouraged music and the arts, and is a great attraction for visitors. The younger generation, especially those who went to college in a place like Austin, might be encouraged to stay near their families and invest in their hometown when they have the option to walk just a couple of blocks from their apartments to see live music, watch ultimate fighting at Willy G’s, read a book at Deb’s Downtown Cafe, or taste Thai green curry, without spending a dime on gas.

People of all ages can appreciate what’s going on downtown. Surely many of the city’s growing number of senior citizens would like to live in a more walkable, close-knit community with reliable public transit. It’s an encouraging sign that Longview city planners have had the foresight to see that the small town, middle class values that our community holds dear are encouraged in a place where people can walk and talk together, sit on a bench, visit an art gallery, and mingle with other locals. It’s good for Longview’s economy, too. Local shops and restaurants benefit

from pedestrian traffic and walk-able, mixed use areas (with resi-dences near shops and venues).

For such a small city, Longview has always had cosmo-politan aspirations: crosswalk signs even where people don’t walk, a bus system, a legendary community theatre, the Longview Museum of Fine Arts, and terrific venues like the Belcher center. It’s that unique combination of big and small that makes a community exceptional. Longview has done that by moving forward with the new spirit of its downtown.

“If you don’t respect yourself Ain’t nobody else gonna do it”

Respect Yourself - words and Music by Luther Ingram & Mack RicePerformed by The Staples Singers in 1971

When I was thinking about writing this article, the first thing that popped into my brain was the chorus to the song “Respect Yourself” from 1971. Made popular by the Staples Singers and covered by everyone from Aretha Franklin to Bruce Willis, Rolling Stone listed it as one of the 500 best songs ever. I wholeheartedly agree, especially since those words still ring so ring true 40 years later in our “new” DIY, independent, self-directed, self-powered and less influence from big record labels music business as it exists today. If fact, it probably means more than it ever did before. Last month we talked about respecting your audience and the folks you work for/with but this month we are going to be a little more personal.

In the music business everyone wants something and most folks want it for free or at least as cheaply as possible. As a talented musician you will often be the target of this. Many people from friends to venue operators will want to use your talent to their gain without giving you proper credit or compensation. Now, that doesn’t mean, you don’t do the free set now and then to garner attention for yourself, your music or to help a worthy charity. But you should set limits to this. If you don’t value what you do then no one else will.

You may be naturally talented, but your skills and chops did not come to you magically. They were honed and perfected by hours, months and years of prac-tice, study and repetition. That is your investment in the music business. Your

precious time and energy imbues you and your performance with value. So, don’t sell yourself short.

Most folks reading this article don’t have agents or representation. Let’s face it, this is East Texas and not exactly the center of the professional music world. Most of us can’t afford to or don’t want to entrust our booking and publicity to a third party. That means we are doing it for ourselves. Fact is, most folks aren’t trying to take advantage of you but they are trying to get as much as possible for as little as possible. After all, isn’t that what we all want? If you do decide to play for free, then you need to provide your own value. Ask for your billing to be in a larger font, for a green room, for lodging, for meals, for parking close to the load-in area, for help with load-in and for an environment that best suits your performance/presentation. This isn’t being a pain or a prima donna; it is simply getting respect for what you do by asking for those thing that put you and your music in the very best light possible. If you don’t ask for it then no one will know you need/want those things. Never ask for things that disrespect the person you are performing for and always treat others as you want to be treated. But demanding that you are also treated with respect is not only your right but your responsibility to your talent and your career in music. Believe it or not it also sets perceptions and expectations for the next performance and performer. Respecting yourself raises the bar of professional-ism for youself and for those who follow you. So, do it for you AND your fellow musicians, REPECT YOURSELF!! See you next issue.

Randy Brown is a small business owner and singer/songwriter in East Texas and has been involved with many sides of the music business over the years, from being a sideman, a sound man, touring songwriter, operating a venue, and a recording studio owner/engineer.

I am a singer/songwriter and have lived in Gilmer most of my life. I have enjoyed performing at the Gladewater and Mt Pleasant Opry as well as the East Texas Yamboree. For a season in Gilmer, I had the honor ofhosting a Country/Gospel show at the Gilmer Civic Center where I got to perform with manytalented individuals. I currently have an albumtitled “I Love The Way” made up of gospelsongs that were written by me and a dear friend. The album was recorded at the Song Factory Studio in Gilmer, Texas.

I began singing at a young age in church and have been the worship leader at Church of Power for the past 26 years. I have been greatly infl uenced by classic country singers such as Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynett. I also enjoy the sound of today’s country music as well as country and contemporary gospel music. I hope that music will continue to be part of my life for many years to come. [email protected]

I was asked to offer tips on wine tasting in this piece, but frankly, I have but one suggestion – ONLY trust the owner or winemaker (not the bub-bly, cute little server guys or gals) at each winery. Yep, simple as that, ‘cause the person whose name is on the label, or the one who made the wine (of-ten, but not always, this is the owner) should know best and capably advise the following:

1. The size and shape of the glass from which to properly enjoy this wine;

2. The proper temperature of the wine (for storage and serving);

3. The visual (the color and clarity, etc.); 4. The proper swirling (to allow some air to

mix with the wine – to wake it up – looks silly, but very important);

5. The sniffi ng (again, might look silly, but very important);

6. The actual sipping (learn the proper way, for maximum enjoyment – otherwise, get yourself a “Box O’ Mystery Wine” at Wal-Mart and guzzle away)…

7. What you MIGHT be tasting in this wine, IF your taste buds were identical to the server’s, of course – a no-brainer here – if it tastes good to YOU, drink it and buy some to try at home. If it does not taste good to you, try another wine…

Final tip – give the owner or winemaker the ben-efi t of the doubt. He/she should know how to make good wine, and is certainly interested in serving and selling good wine, BUT that is no guarantee that your personal taste will be in agreement. If you do not fi nd the wine pleasing for any reason – try another wine. There are plenty of great ones in Texas. And speaking of great Texas wines, may I suggest that you try some made by Jeffrey Sneed – Wine-maker/Owner of Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards in Pittsburg – www.lospinosranchvineyards.com. My favorite, so far, is Jeffrey’s “Rosie the Riveter”, which I sampled at the Bois d’Arc Bash Wine Tasting, last September, in Commerce, Texas. I

*(with no apologies to Willis Alan Ramsey, but bet he’d enjoy a bottle of Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards’ Rosie the Riveter – a delicious, sweet red Muscat Canelli blend by Winemaker Jeffrey Sneed…)

It’s been a while but I am back on the road and ready to share my ad-ventures. This month my taste buds have led me to the small town of Winona where I found Odell’s Pizza & Pasta. This cozy Italian restaurant has been on my radar for some time now.

Owner Harry Jones could not have picked a bet-ter location. An old main street brick building has been the home of Odell’s since 1996. Upon entry

my senses were overwhelmed with the smell of fresh baked bread, Italian herbs and the smooth sounds of classic jazz. An eclectic collection of hand painted artwork from local artists is covering the walls. The artists are carefully chosen and the display is changed regularly. The restaurant seats around fifty people very comfortably with ten tables and a small bar area.

Odell’s menu is comprised of Italian favorites such as Lasagna, Spaghetti and handmade Pizza Pie. There is also a fabulous selection of salads and sandwiches. The dessert menu has such treats as Tiramisu, Cappuccino pie and my absolute all time favorite Italian Cream Cake. Odell’s is BYOB and has wine glasses on hand for the perfect Vino to complement your meal.

Alright, let’s get down to business. I started off my meal with an order of Pimento Cheese Sticks for the appetizer and let me just say WOW. As I sat eating this cheesy dish I could not bring forth the words to de-scribe it, so I will just say woo hoo and move on to the entrée. All the entrée’s are served with a side salad and delicious homemade toasted garlic bread. I went with the house dressing for my salad, which is a spicy apple vinaigrette. It was an amazing blend of sweet, tangy and spice. I can honestly say I could write an entire article on the dressing.

Now it’s no secret that I love Italian cooking so making a decision was very difficult, but after talking to Harry he had the perfect dish in mind. His choice for me was a delicious Spicy Italian Sausage Primavera with fresh sliced mushrooms, red peppers and olives. The handmade fettuccini noodles were cooked to perfec-

tion complementing the robust sauce and vegetables. The enormous pieces of sausage exploded with juicy flavor and spices. Unfortunately I was unable to finish the dish due to the heaping portion size; seriously it was enough to feed two or three adults. I also had the pleasure of sampling one of Odell’s signature Pizza Pies, the Spicy Italian. What a treat. This hand tossed masterpiece blended pineapple, jalapenos, pepperoni, and Italian sausage smothered in a blanket of melty mozzarella.

Even though I couldn’t finish my entrée I had to try the Italian cream cake. My mother makes me one every year for my birthday and after eating this one I have to say mom “I’m sorry but Odell’s Cream Cake is the best I have ever had.” It was so moist and creamy with the perfect amount of walnuts. A must have with every meal.

Odell’s was absolutely wonderful from its friendly staff and fabulous food, to the comfortable atmosphere. I would recommend eating here to anyone, anytime. Whether you are coming from Shreveport, DFW, or anywhere in between its well worth the drive. A++ Great Job Guys!! Until next time, happy eating!!

ONTARIO BRUCEOntario Bruce was born in Texarkana, TX on November 6, 1981. He became interested in art upon entering kinder-garten at age 6. Ontario developed a love of drawing and wanted to follow in his Pawpaw’s (Willie Bruce) footsteps. His family was very supportive and delighted to have two artists in the family.

Ontario remained in special education classes in Texarkana until the age of 15 when he moved to Arizona. Upon graduat-ing from high school, he moved back to Texas and now lives in a group home in Longview.

Ontario enjoys working in chalk, water colors and oil paints. For inspiration, he sits calmly until something comes to mind, and then he sketches the image. He often works with such focus and intensity, it gives him headaches.

Ontario finds the level of detail he is able to achieve in his work extremely satisfying. It is a great source of gratification when a picture turns out exactly as he visualized it in his mind.

Someday Ontario would like to be able to sell his work and gain some recogni-tion for his efforts. But for now, he hopes to find a mentor or teacher who can help him improve his skills.

Ontario’s artwork can be seen at The Arc’s Downtown Coffee Shop in Longview on Thursday, October 7, 2010.

“A Magazine for Art Lovers in the Piney Woods.” Art is defined as a product of deliber-ately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. Piney Woods Live features articles about and for local artists with the objective of appealing to individuals with an interest in fine art, fine dining, and fine performances. Copies of Piney Woods Live are strategically placed where afluent, educated East Texans who want the best out of living can enjoy them. Live is more than an expression of the artist community it serves; it gives discerning readers a blend of in-depth art news, reviews, views on the business of art, as well as information on the artists themselves.
