Also Needed: 50” x 60” batting, threads to match, scissors, straight pins, rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, mat, iron-on fusible web, and (2) scraps of batting 9” x 7” each.

Directions: 1. Trace (1) center leaf, (2) each large, medium, small leaves - one right and one left onto the paper side of the fusible web. Rough cut out. Following manufacturer’s directions, iron leaves onto the wrong side of each fabric - center leaf - SC5333 cadet, large leaves and small leaves - CX7452 and medium leaves - CX5514 Navy. Cut out. Set aside. For pineapple - trace pattern onto fusible web. Rough cut out. Remove the center of the fusible web to within 1/2” of the drawn line. Iron onto the wrong side of CX7568. Cut out on the pattern lines. 2. Remove paper backing from all of the pineapple pieces. Center the pineapple and the leaves in the center of the CX7453 16 1/2” W x 24 1/2” H piece. Following the manufacturer’s directions iron pieces in place. Hand or machine finish all raw edges. Machine satin stitch with navy thread was used in this quilt. 3. Sew (1) CX7452 1 1/2” x 16 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of the pineapple center. Sew one CX7452 1 1/2” x 26 1/2” piece to each side. 4. Sew (1) CX7453 1 1/2” x 18 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of the center. Sew (1) CX7453 1 1/2” x 30 1/2” to each side. 5. Sew (1) CX5514 Navy 1 1/2” x 22 1/2” to the top and bottom. Sew one CX5514 Navy 1 1/2” x 32 1/2” to each side. Set aside. 6. For the pineapple blocks - sew one CX7401 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of one CX7404 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” piece. Sew one CX7401 1 1/2” x 8 1/2” piece to each side. Make (10) total. Set aside. 7. For the checkerboard blocks - sew one CX7402 2 1/2” x W.O.F. strip to each side of (1) SC5333 Bright White 2 1/2” x W.O.F. Make (2) combo ‘A’ and set aside. Repeat using (2) CX5514 Ebony 2 1/2” x W.O.F. strips on each side of one CX7403 2 1/2” x W.O.F. strip. Make (2) of combo ‘B’. Cross cut the strips every 2 1/2”. Cut (20) of each combination. Assemble the

block by sewing together two of each combination in an alternating pattern to make (1) 6 1/2” x 8 1/2” checkerboard block as shown. Make (10) total. 8. For the left side of the quilt sew together (2) checkerboard blocks and (2) pineapple blocks in an alternating pattern beginning with the checkerboard as shown. Sew to the left side of the quilt. Repeat for the right side starting with a pineapple block. Sew to the right side of the quilt. Keep motifs upright. Repeat for the top using (3) of each block starting with the pineapple. Sew to the quilt. Reverse the order for the remaining blocks. Sew to the bottom of the quilt. 9. Sew one SC5333 Cadet 1” x 36 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of the quilt. Sew one SC5333 Cadet 1” x 49 1/2” piece (pieced for length) to each side. 10. Sew one CX7453 3” x 37 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of the quilt. Sew one CX7453 3” x 54 1/2” piece (pieced for length) to each side. 11. For the backing - from one-way print - cut (1) piece 60” x W.O.F. Cut remaining piece in half vertically to make (2) 22” x 30” pieces. Trim off selvages. With right sides together sew the (2) 22” x 30” pieces together along the 22” side. Keep motifs upright. Sew pieced strip to one side of the 60” x W.O.F. piece to make the backing. 12. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top. Baste. NOTE: For extra dimension (2) pineapple pieces were cut from batting scraps (1) 1/2” smaller on the outer edge and (1) 1” smaller around the outer edge. Use the dotted lines on the pattern as a guide. The larger was placed on top of the smaller and both were placed directly under the pineapple before being quilted. This gives the pineapple extra dimension and texture. 13. Quilt as desired.

NOTE: The CX7453 inner border was quilted in a leaf and vine motif using contrast Navy thread for added interest. 14. Bind quilt using CX7452 2 1/2” strip pieced as needed for length.
