(MAKING OUR -POINT We, the people of Pilot Point Gee

Junior High School are committed to " Making our Point. " You can tell this from our great test scores. Our seventh grade took the new TAAS test and did very well. Forty-two percent of our students passed overall. Seventy-eight percent passed the Math and the Writing sections and sixty-three percent passed the Reading section.

Our Life Skills class has proven that everyone has their own " Special Points" in life. They are learning to be responsible human beings in the world today.

Our outstanding organizations have proven that you can achieve great goals from teamwork. The Student Council has put together many fund-raisers for our school. The Beta Club raised money for a trip to Austin in April. The Yearbook Staff worked hard to make this yearbook a success . The 4-H Club worked together on many occasions, and as individuals, worked hard on getting their projects ready for the various livestock shows. The Leadership Class started peer tutoring and counseling during first and activity periods.

In sports, our seventh and eighth grade football teams both captured the title of District Champions. Our seventh and eighth grade girls volleyball teams both placed second in the district tournament. The seventh grade boys and the eighth grade girls both won the District Championship in basketball. All of the students, teachers, and coaches have proven they have Made Their Point.

Coach Haskins explains a play to one of the 7th grade football players so he will be able to make his point known in the second half.

Kevin Jones rips through the victory sign ready to tear up anything that gets in his way, especially an Aubrey player.

The Life Skills program, staffed by Mrs. Stephani Buckingham, Mrs. Nancy Sanders, and Mr. Gary Wood, had a very successful year. The Life Skills program concentrates on five basic domains of learning: Functional Academ-. ics, Community Skills, Domestic Skills, Vocational Skills, and Leisure Skills.

Life Skills students learn how to balance checkbooks, work in the community, and become productive and successful citizens and neighbors. Besides learning how to have work, Life Skills students learn to have fun by taking community skills acquisition excursion to such places as The Golden Triangle Mall, the Gainsville Zoo, the Denton Historical Museum, and various restaurants.

Life Skills is a fun place to learn.

The Pilot Point Junior High football teams both captured District Championships this season. The eighth grade captured the title with a 6-2 record losing only to Lake Dallas and Howe. The seventh grade team won the District Championship with a 7-1 record with their solo loss coming from Howe.

The eighth grade coach Kenneth Calhoun had a few things to say about the eighth grade's season. Coach Calhoun feels that the team's work in off-season and track had a great affect on this year's season because of the strength and speed the players gained. He also believes the team grew mentally and matured as a group. Calhoun was very proud of the way the team worked to get better this season. He also feels that the type of effort and determination the team gave is what has given Pilot Point ISD the pride and success that has made Pilot Point "The Team of the Decade." He feels this group will take the necessary steps forward to continue to make Pilot Point the best school in the state regardless of classification.

The seventh grade coach Max Haskins also had a few words to say about the seventh grade team. Coach Haskins feels that they worked hard all season and they really played well as a team. Haskins believes the group will go a long way to carry on the Pilot Point winning tradition. Haskins said, "A congratulations is in order for their successfulness this season."

Pilot Point's Spencer Worthey is about to introduce a Callisburg ball carrier to Pilot Point turf.

Seventh and Eighth grade cheerleaders and mascot " pump the spirit up" at the pep rally.

The Gee Junior High cheerleaders started work in early August at a tough three-day cheerleader camp. But their hard work paid big dividends. Their halftime dance routines were always the highlight at the pep rallies and football games. By the end of the season, everyone who watched our girls perform agreed that no Junior High School had a better team of cheerleaders. This was just another part of our school which proved that the Bearcubs were number one.
