A Word from the Pastor

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Galatians 2:20, RSV:

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in

the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who love me and gave himself for me."

I am so grateful for our God’s great love for us. A new year is upon us, and changes are

happening. Change gives us the opportunity to meet new people and meet new circumstances

and to see how God is working.

Jesus came into a world that needed something different to happen. People needed hope and

love to meet the challenges of the difficult lives they lived. God sent His Son into the world change

lives, if only human beings would trust His Son to accomplish that in the hearts of every person.

Christ living in us! How we could change the world around us if we would let this be so.

May Christ guide our every thought and deed as we minister in his name in the next few months.

Michele and I look forward to being with you as a new year approaches.

Blessings,

Reverend Jerry Cribb

Dear Pilmoor family, As I leave the position of bookkeeper at Pilmoor and look back over the years I have been working here, I am remem-bering your many acts of love and kindness to me and I am grateful! Missions/Outreach News

Throughout the month of October, the Mission & Outreach ministry

workgroup held bake sales to fund educational scholarships for students

in Liberia. In a Liberia, so recently devastated by Ebola and still recover-

ing from civil wars, education is not free. The four October bake sales

raised over five-hundred dollars for Liberian student scholarships.

In November and early December, Mission & Outreach organized

Angel Tree gifting in cooperation with the Currituck County Public

Schools. Generous Pilmoor angels contributed SEVENTY Christmas

gifts, providing a bounteous Christmas morning for ALL the children in

TEN Currituck families. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas ...

About 18 months ago, our North Carolina Conference set a goal of $1 million. At this point, we have reached 85% ($850,000) of our goal. We an-

ticipate passing the goal with Advent and Christmas offerings. Our hope is that Pilmoor will do our part in helping our Conference meet our goal.

Some facts about malaria:

1. Over half a million people die from malaria each year,

mostly children younger than five years old.

2. It is estimated that a child dies every minute of malaria.

3. It is estimated that less than 5% of children in sub-Saharan Africa currently sleep under any type of insecticide-treated net.

4. When insecticide-treated nets are used by ¾ of the people in a community, malaria transmission is cut by 50%, and

the mosquito population drops by as much as 90%.

Make checks for this special offering out to Pilmoor and write INM (which stands for Imagine No Malaria) on the memo line of your check.

Girl Scouts Troop 365 News

The Girl Scouts have been

incredible busy this year

with no chance of slowing

down! We had our en-

campment in September

with archery, canoeing,

and Dutch oven cook-

ing. We are working on

completing an Energy

Journey where the girls

have to learn about the

different ways we use (and waste) energy. Our World Thinking

Day project this year involved learning about Argentina, and we are

presenting our information using the Broadway musical, Evita. In

November, we celebrated with a Dia De Los Muertos Party, where

the girls learned about a special person in their family and the tradi-

tions Latin American cultures utilize to pay respect. We had our

Fall Product sale and are gearing up for cookies! Yum! Currently

we have a Cadette (Isabella Orosco) working on her silver award,

the second highest award that can be achieved in Girl Scouting. She

is working to create a library system at the Assisted Living Facility

in Moyock and a more inviting activities center. The Juniors are

working on their Bronze award, also in the Assisted Living Facility,

to create a children's area within the activities center. We are

working on fundraisers and accepting donations for books, money,

DVD’s, and gently used games. If you would like to help, please

let me know at [email protected] or 252-207-3060. Thank

you all for your Support!

Tiny Peeps from Pilmoor Preschool

The faculty of Pilmoor Preschool would like to wish the members of the Pilmoor Congregation a very Happy New Year! For the month of Janu-ary, the preschool will be celebrating with their an-nual Penguin Day, when the children of the pre-

school learn all about our flightless, cold-weather dwelling friends, the penguins! The students will dress like penguins, play snow-themed games, eat penguin-themed food (like Goldfish crackers), and make penguin crafts, Pilmoor Preschool will also be opening enroll-ment for the 2016-2017 school year during the month of February.

A Thank You from Mrs. Ruth Ambrose

Dear Pilmoor Family,

The holidays just wouldn’t have been the same

without you. Thank you for your Christmas gift

to me. I love this church and everything we do

to help others! Than you for letting me be a part

of your music ministry!

Love,

Ruth

Kitchen Supplies

The church budget includes $500 for Kitchen Supplies in 2016. To supplement that modest amount, anyone sponsoring a meal in the So-cial Hall is asked to contribute $25 to the Wednesday Evening Fund to help pay for Kitchen Sup-plies. Thank you for your support.

The Knitwits will meet on Saturday, January 16th in the church library from 10:00-12:00 noon. I hope everyone had a

wonderful Christmas! Please bring what you’ve been working on since we met last. See you there, Ruth.

Nurture Notions

Regular Wednesday Night Dinners will resume on

January 13th. Please contact Mary Beth Newns if

your committee, group, or family would like to

host a meal. This is a great time for fellowship,

but our calendar is empty, so please prayerfully

consider volunteering! Mary Beth can be reached

by email at [email protected] or by phone at 252-

202-7130. The next Nurture/Discipleship meet-

ing will be held on January 5, 2016 at 7:00pm.

Quarterly Giving Statements

To reduce postage costs, Giving Statements will be available for pick up at des-

ignated Sunday services beginning in January. Any statements not distributed

will be mailed. Further details will be provided in the bulletin announcements

leading up to the printing of the statements.

Year End Giving Ends December 27th

A reminder that year end giving for 2015 will end with donations collected on the December 27th service. All contributions

made by the 27th will be deductible on your 2015 tax return.

Welcome Our New Bookkeeper

Please welcome our new bookkeeper, Coreena Taylor, to Pilmoor and give her your support during her transition which is the busiest time of the year in accounting. Coreena has years of bookkeeping and accounting experience and some may remember her helping with our Tup-perware fundraiser.

Leola Hall Circle News

The Leola Hall Circle delivered the Christmas presents and Christmas dinner to a needy family in Currituck county. This is

our second year that we have participated in Operation Santa Claus through the Currituck Social Services Department. We

have really enjoyed doing it.

Our next meeting is scheduled for January 13th at 10:00am. We welcome all women of the church to attend our meetings.

We would love to have you.
