Chaturanga Holistic Fitness, Hyde Park’s top destination for wellness and fitness education, is now enrolling for its 2016 Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program. Classes begin in June/July.

This apprentice-style training fulfills all requirements to become a Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Trainer (CPT-PMA) and graduates of Chaturanga’s Pilates Teacher Training program will be eligible to sit for the PMA’s national certification exam. The program is broken into Monthly Modules, allowing participants with varied work schedules and family commitments the opportunity to dive deeper into their practice while gaining professional certification. Under the direction of Master Pilates Instructor, Marylee Bussard (see page 7), individuals will deepen their knowledge of the human body as they learn the skills needed to provide the highest quality Pilates Mat, Group Equipment, and Private Equipment Sessions to people of any fitness level.

In a world where chronic low back pain is the leading cause of disability globally, bodywork knowledge is more valuable than ever. Pilates has a central role to play in moving our society away from pain pills and scalpels and towards more preventive approaches. Joseph Pilates’ ingenious method drew inspiration from the German physical culture movement of the 19th and 20th centuries, where people first began to make the connection between

emerging “diseases of affluence” and increasingly sedentary lifestyles. In modern times, the practice of Pilates continues to evolve alongside growing understanding of human movement, but the underlying purpose remains unchanged: to awaken the natural intelligence of the nervous system—and its tissues—and “return to life” as we are meant to experience it… as supple and capable human animals.

Drawing from extensive clinical experience and Marylee’s acclaimed book on the Functional Anatomy of Pilates, the Chaturanga Pilates Teacher Training program infuses dynamic movement practices with current scientific knowledge to stoke curiosity, awaken perception, and promote original contributions and thought. Rigorous study meets insightful practice as you encounter new awareness and discover answers to questions about your own body’s mysteries and quirks. You’ll have fun learning the Pilates Fundies™, and how cultivating a keen eye for movement is your greatest ally for unlocking the power of the Pilates repertoire. Our goal is to provide graduates with a current and invaluable book of knowledge, sharp eyes for movement, and confident leadership in the Pilates field.

This program is for you if…• You’re a Pilates enthusiast and want to deepen your practice.

• You’re looking for a flexible career where you can make your own hours and get your body & brain into the best shape of your life.

• You’ve been considering a career in bodywork. This program will give you a solid grounding in anatomy and biomechanics and you’ll learn everything you need to know to become a successful Pilates trainer.

• You’re already a fitness teacher, athlete, performance artist, or healer and you want to learn a practice that will diversify and complement your skill set (e.g. group fitness

instructors, personal trainers, athletic coaches, yoga teachers, dancers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, counselors, aestheticians, massage therapists, geriatric specialists, etc.)

• Optimizing your own physical and mental well-being, and extending that gift to others - is a possibility that excites you.

• You’re a lover of knowledge and want to have a great experience learning about your amazing human body!

Life as a Pilates ApprenticeThe Chaturanga Pilates Teacher Training program will be more than just an education in movement and anatomy; it will be an initiation to a different way of knowing and relating to your own body. Yes, at times it will be intense: intellectually, socially, and of course, physically. You can bet that you will get in the best shape of your life, as your time at the studio will be spent living and breathing the vast Pilates repertoire of exercises!

You will attend regular classroom sessions (average 14 hours per month) that cover Pilates repertoire, Anatomy, teaching skills, and clinical skills, among other topics. These sessions take place over a series of weekend intensives, and/or ongoing M/W/F daytime classes. The exact schedule will be determined by course participants. Along the way, you will spend between five and 20 hours per week fulfilling your observation, self-practice, homework, and practice-teaching requirements. Supporting you along the way will be Chaturanga’s Pilates teachers (including previous program graduates) and fellow Pilates apprentices. This program requires a fair amount of discipline and self-direction. You will be asked to track and turn in your hours on a regular basis. You can complete the program at your own pace. Expect to spend eight months to a year preparing for your final test out and written exam.

Not on a Professional Track?

You will still learn a ton from being a part of this intensive Pilates experience. Like the professional track apprentices, you will attend all seminars, complete the homework assignments, and commit to tracking your self-practice hours. The only difference is, you will be free from the requirement to complete teaching and observation hours and will not be eligible to sit for the PMA-CPT exam. You will receive a certificate of completion for the “Pilates Studies Intensive Program” at Chaturanga, which will look beautiful hanging on your home or office wall! Should you decide to complete your observation and practice teaching hours at a later date, you will be free to do so within a two-year period, at no additional cost.
