President’s Message May 2014
WOW the last three weeks have been a
whirlwind of events. I’m just starting to
feel as though my feet are on firm ground
instead of working the pedals across
America, so this will be a very quick mes-
sage. Hopefully Spring has finally sprung!
There are many events on the horizon so make sure you keep a look
out for those updates.
Don’t forget to take note of the change of location for the Korum
Mini-Show this weekend; it is posted to the club’s Facebook page.
A BIG THANK YOU TO RACHEL LANIGAN, CHARLENE RIVERA,
PAMMY PISTELLA, GREG ROBBINS, AND PAUL NEE FOR KEEPING
THINGS ROLLING IN MY ABSENCE.
Tip of the month
With gas prices soaring again, save money where you can. Most car
shows offer a lower price for early registration; including our own
show. Register early for those shows that are favorites and you know
you will attend and save on average $5 per registration.

Treasure Hunt, 50th Mustang Birthday, and The Left
Behind Cruise –we cover 3 events in one.
The “Ponies” traveled from one Tacoma Iconic spot to
another, where we picked up eggs with treasure, raf-
fle tickets and funny clues that lead us to The B&I,
where Ivan the Gorilla lived, Bob’s Java Jive – which
doesn’t sell coffee, Almond Roca Factory for some
great candy at a great price. We stopped at some
beautiful churches and some great parks. We even
went back in time at Frisco Freeze. The weather was
all kinds – sun to sprinkles to pouring rain, but this is Washington. We ended at Round
Table Pizza for a no host lunch, 50th Mustang Birthday Cake, some great 50th Birthday
Raffle Prizes, and a treasure box with a dash plaque and a 50 Years Hot Wheels Mus-
tang. Huge thanks to Greg, Rachel, and Mike for helping pass out the eggs, and to
Pammy for helping to set the route.

The Pierce County Mustang Club has had the honor to be a
part of the Daffodil Parade for the past 5 years. For the
past four years, Paul Nee has coordinated with the Daffodil
Committee ensuring our club can participate in the parade,
escorting Educators of the Year and Pierce County Executive
and PC Superior Court Judge. This year, Paul let go of the
reins and let me be the coordinator. Of all years for me to
try and take charge, this year was slim pickings when it
came to convertibles as well as having various styles of
coupes in our Special Unit. Many of our Pierce County Mus-
tang members who have participated every year were off
celebrating Mustang’s 50th Anniversary either at Griots, Las
Vegas or driving cross country to Charlotte. However, where
there is a will there is a way, the show must go on and it did.
We had just enough convertibles to carry the Educators of the Year. The Pierce County Executive and
PC Superior Court Judge were unable to attend any of the parades this year. To add more to the chaos
with the shortage of cars we were also asked to carry two of the Alumni Princesses, who could not walk
in the parades, lucky for them we had a small Special Unit. This year thanks to Paul we combined the
Convertibles with the Special Units and we strolled down the parade streets together as one. Thank
you to all of us old hats who stayed home and was part of the parade and to all the new hats that have
never been in the parade. We could not have had a successful parade if it weren’t for you. I hope to
see you all at next year’s parade. If you were unable to participate this year there is always room for
you next year.

The day started off acceptable, cloudy with a few blue spots; however by 11:00 am that had
changed to rain, then wind and rain. But the mustangs showed up, and mostly the older ones.
Once all the mustangs were parked, we had free admission to the LeMay Museum. Some of the
people took the tour while others of us just went roaming on our own. It was the first time I took
in this one.
While just about everyone got out of the rain, there was one individual who was taking aerial
photos with one of those remote whirly-things. (Sorry I couldn't remember what it is called, but it
is what the people in Seattle are getting huffy about if the police start using.)
After the cake had been cut and eaten, the weather had changed enough where we were asked
to go out and stand by our cars to have another aerial photo taken. Then everyone sort of went
their own way. Some stayed to do more of the museum while most departed. There were* cars
from Oregon, Yakima, and* Seattle.* * Tom Alpert and one of his daughters and myself were
there to represent PCMC.
Below are a few photos, one of all the Mustangs parked (mine is in the lower left side of the '0' outside row; Tom's red fastback is part of the '5' upper left outside) and one of the cake they had. The'50' photo was displayed on a wide screen TV, but they will be sending some to us via email.

To celebrate Mustang’s 50th Anniversary Mt. Hood Mustang and Fords Car Club put on a
parade starting on the Woodburn Dragstrip. There was a total of 1000 Mustangs and
Fords all together with the intent to crush two current Guinness book of World Record, one
for most mustangs in a parade and the other the most Fords in a Parade.
There were over 800 Mustangs alone. There were 15 of us from the Pierce County Mus-
tang Club who went down to Woodburn to be a part of this celebration. It was a fun day
so many different types of mustangs. I could barely keep my eye on the road with all the
pretty ponies.
