Presidents Message September 2011 As you read this month’s Pony News

several contingents of PCMC members will be

on their way to one of two distant events. First

is the International Mustang Meet in Spokane,

the other is the Sturgis Mustang Rally in

Sturgis, South Dakota. Both of these are

happening over the Labor Day Weekend. For

those of us staying closer to home, we wish

our comrades safe travels and good luck in

bringing home the awards our members are known for.

This year’s PCMC car show, All Ford & Mustang Roundup was a resounding

success. With 156 cars registering for the show and only four no-shows, this was by far the

largest attendance for the show after reviewing past years’ totals. The sun showed itself

periodically throughout the day and the afternoon showers that were forecast never devel-

oped. Thanks to Michael and Rachel Lanigan for putting on an outstanding raffle, Larry and

Charlene Rivera for selling a ton of 50/50 raffle tickets and the many PCMC members that

loaded the truck, helped setup, manned the registration, T-Shirt sales and raffle ticket sales

tables and tear down and put everything away at the storage unit.

Also I’d like to thank Queen Claire Fleming and Princess Krista Nunnally of this

year’s Daffodil Festival for their judging and selection of the new Daffodil Festival Royalty

Award. They were schooled on car show judging and had a score sheet for each car. Come

to find out that Princess Krista is a dyed in the wool car nut and gave every car a diligent

going over and assisted Queen Claire with the nuances of each car. The other special award

this year was the Fallen Hero Award which was selected by Deputy Brian Holman of the

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department presented by Officer Brian Markert of the Lakewood

President’s Message Cont’d

Continued from page 1

Because our editor is on the road as you are reading this, I’ll include the outcome of the Annual Family Picnic in

next month’s issue.

I have already received this year’s Sumner-Puyallup Santa Parade application so if you’d like to join us in one or

both parades on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, December 3rd make sure to contact me either by email or

phone so I can get a count of cars and inform everybody of requirements for entry. As was the case last year, I’ll

need a photo copy of your proof of insurance and your driver’s license (you can redact your DL number if you

wish). You can scan and email a PDF file to me as well.

Remember on Saturday, September 10th we will be heading down to Ocean Shores for a Show & Shine display

complete with trophies and awards. The convention center around the corner from where we’ll be parked will have

the annual arts & crafts fair underway. Word has it that Clay & Robert will be hosting a Smores cookout after-

wards at their property in Ocean Shores.

Lastly I just want to let everyone know that the September Executive Committee will have their meeting on

Tuesday, September 13th due to many committee members out of town at various Mustang events or extended La-

bor Day outings. All members are welcome to attend any Executive committee meeting and contribute your

thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

The Minnieweather Family

and their herd of Ponies

“Had to be Sonic Blue!!”

By Wendy Minnieweather

I’ve been a member of the Mustang Community since August 1994, at which time I pos-

sessed a 1989 Smokey Gray LX Coupe, which I regret to say has since been smooched. This

brought me this Awesome 1988 Midnight Shadow Blue/Gray GT/HB. I have been very active

with my Stangs participating in parades, car shows, cherry pie runs, poker runs, local cruises

throughout the Pacific Northwest and least we forget I’ve also participated in at least Six Pony

Trails (definitely a retread)!

I’m the second owner of this no-nonsense looking 1988 GT/HB that I managed to find

locally (Silverdale, Washington), some of the highlights of the Stang include the gray cloth in-

terior, 302 (5.0 liter) V-8 engine with 5 speed manual transmission. It is stock (except for the

aftermarket 5 Star Chrome rims and the Chrome Valve Covers given to me from my kids as a

Christmas present) the other features include: air conditioning, dual illuminated visor mirrors,

power side windows, power door locks, AM/FM cassette stereo and premium sound system,

cruise control, dual remote mirrors and rear window defrost. This tuff looking Stang was

driven daily by me until hubby (Robert) and I added the 2005 Sonic Blue to my Stable.

As of March 17th, 2005 we added to my corral, with the purchase of a 2005 Sonic Blue

Coupe that we couldn’t resist for the price we paid! We saved close to anywhere from $2000 to

$3000 less than most of the dealerships in Washington, although we did have to drive 3 hours

one way to get this savings it was worth the trip as he was cleaned and gassed up and ready for

us to drive off with him as soon as we got to the dealership in Lynden, Washington.

The 2005 Sonic Blue is still stock sporting the V6 Deluxe Coupe (4.0 liter engine with

five speed manual transmission, getting 19 MPG City/28 MPG Highway). However, some

changes were made to “Ted” (License # is 261-TED) making him more personalized by adding

the White Pony side body Rocker Stripe, changing out the Ford Spinners on the rims to the Tri-

Bar Pony Spinners and adding Pony mud flaps to the rear wheels, also adding the sequential

lights.

Since purchasing “TED” we’ve been able to attend all the MCA Shows on the West

Coast since 2005 (Lacey, Washington), Las Vegas, NV (2006), Concord, CA (2007), and Park

City, UT (2008), due to the great gas mileage on the Highway. Of course, hubby had to test the

speed on our way to the MCA show in Las Vegas, NV we’ll just say “TED” passed! After all

the Smokies are few and far between on HWY 318. That being said “TED” is now my daily

driver, while the 1988 received a much needed New paint job in the winter of 2007 so we could

show both Mustangs at the car shows 2008.

This present came from Florida it is

a 93 Cobra Clone, because as most of you know the 93 Cobra's came in ONLY three colors

and Blue was not one of the colors! But the rest of the car has all the Bells and Whistle's that a

Cobra would have and he has fun driving it, isn't that the point the Mustang was made for

by taking the money that you donate at the meetings and turning

into “food” gift cards.

FROM THE CAR SHOW

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Thank you to all our volunteers that came out at 5 am on Sunday to help setup and all

those who manned the booths during the day as well. When I took the chairman position I indi-

cated then that I would like this to be our best year. Well you did it! All the hard work that was

put into each position by the committee team paid off and Thank you does not seem enough to

say about this year's committee.

I have always said that it takes the whole club to make the show a success. This year

really proved it, from passing out flyers at the various car shows to all who took part. Ken sell-

ing T-shirts, Larry selling tickets, Joanie getting the hospitality area set, the whole crew that set

things up and then helped run them. Then the parking crew who got everyone parked. Big

thanks to Tom for making sure that the truck was taken care of and going over the parking plan

and setting the stanchion positions. To Mike and Rachel, who not only took care of the port a

potties, but also handled the raffle items again this year. Finally to the lady who never fails to

make things gel each year and without I would have forgotten a lot of things, Nancy. Thanks

for all your hard work Nancy.

I know I have not mentioned half the people who contributed to making this the great

car show that it was. I apologize and hope that you will forgive me as sometimes the old brain

does not work as it should (my story and I am sticking to it).

There will be a meeting for after action reports and going over suggestions for next

year's show on September 13th. Please come ready to hit it at a fast pace as there is a lot of

ground to cover and not a lot of time. However I feel it is important to go over what we did

right and the areas we can improve. Let's make next year's show as good and even better.

Make a Wish Show

On Sunday August 7th, a smattering of PCMC folks headed down to Griot’s Garage for the

Make A Wish show that Ann-Maria Stoian has put on for the past three years. This year there

were a few glitches out of her control (like Griot’s opening the gates late and the food vendor

driving right on by) but what is a car show without a few glitches? About 30 cars showed up

and a good percentage walked away with some kind of trophy. There were some very creative

categories that included best make out car, slowest 0-60, best grocery getter, and best kids taxi.

All in All it was a great success because of the sun, the cars but most importantly the $1,314

that was raised for the Make A Wish Foundation. If you believe in a good cause and enjoy

hanging out with fellow car nuts make sure and look for the flyer next year to help make it an

even bigger showing than this year!

PCMC Car Show

A year of monthly committee meetings and task assignments undertaken by a outstanding group

of volunteers lead by Jerry Murphy resulted in another successful car show. Here is a taste of

the day's events starting the night before with the loading of the rental truck with supplies from

the shed. Sunday starts in the dark at 5am with setting up tents lighting the area with car head-

lights, then on to filling up those tables with free goodies, registration equipment, raffle items,

trophies, generators, balloons on trash cans, PA equipment and greeting the arrival of port a

potties. By 8am volunteers are ready for our guests. And with a promise of a warm day the cars

rolled in and we registered 156 entries. Congratulations to Best of Show winner

Roger Henningsen and his 1966 Shelby GT350H.

Our deepest appreciation to our sponsors and raffle donors. To our guests and their magnificent

cars thank you again for coming, you are a significant reason the club is able to support its ac-

tivities and its charity. Lots more pictures are in the process of being loaded on to the website/

photobucket and should be available soon for viewing.

Backpacks for the Underprivileged

During the PCMC car show backpacks full of school supplies were collected for the

underprivileged children in Pierce County. This year thanks to some very generous mustangers

31 backpacks were turned in. Along with backpacks people also generously gave cash which

raised another $280 to go towards more backpacks and supplies. The backpacks will be

Heritage Flight Museum

Bellingham Washington

August 20th 2011

The Heritage Flight Museum recently played host to 100 beautiful Mustangs and a tarmac full of vintage airplanes. Those present were treated to a sunny day filled with chances to view history from our past on the ground and in the air including fly overs by a P-51. Additionally, many members of the Greater Vancouver Mustang Association crossed over the border giving attendees an opportunity to check out Mustangs that usually don't attend U.S.A. shows. One of the show activities was an exhaust contest where the winner was decided by the crowd. Our own club member, Jim Cassidy, ran the contest while another club member, Larry Rivera, crouched down at the exhaust pipe recording the sound. Be patient with Jim and Larry the next time you talk with them if they have to ask you to repeat what you said. An added bonus to the show is your pony having its picture taken with a P-51 plane. Due to space limitation set by the FAA and the airport, attendance is restricted to 100 cars, so if you want to attend in 2012 keep your eye out for the announcement and don't delay.
