Pie Baking Contest Rules 1. This contest is intended for adult (18 years and older) amateur bakers only. 2. The pie must be entered by the person who made it. 3. Crusts and filling must be made from scratch. No store brought crust, dough, or canned fillings may be used. Each
pie must contain at least a bottom crust. Bake in a disposable pie tin or plate. Pies and pie tins will not be returned. 4. Refrigeration is not available. No pies that require refrigeration will be accepted, i.e. Dairy, cream or meat pies.
Farm Pie Contest Organizer will have the final say on acceptability of pies. Pies must be in an appropriate covered container until judging.
5. Baker may enter apple, baker’s choice or both categories. 6. Baker must bring two (2) of the entered pie. 7. By filling out this registration form you acknowledge that the entered pies become the property of the Willoughby
Farm Fall Day and that you do not get your pie or pie pan back. By entering, you give your permission to use your name and have your photo taken during the event and hate it used for future promotional materials.
8. Pies must be dropped off at the Willoughby Farm Pie Contest Site between the hours of 10am and 12pm on the day of the festival. Judging will begin at 12:30pm, the public is welcome to watch the judging.
9. You need to be present to win. 10. A copy of the recipe and ingredients would be appreciated to accompany the pie, but not required.
Judging Criteria
• Overall appearance
• Crust color, texture, doneness, and flavor
• Filling consistency, doneness, and flavor
• Overall taste
Scoring
• Each judge assigns a numerical value (1-10) in each criteria category, without consultation with the other judges.
• The pie receiving the highest total value is the winner.
• In the case of a tie, the judges will judge those pies again.
• The decision of the judges is final. Judges will not know contestant names until judging is complete and pies are awarded.
Winners will be announced after the judging is completed. Participants must be present during contest and judging.
