The Trinity Church Council was called to order by President Wayne Zysset on May 8, 2017. Pastor White led the Recharge by reading from Revelation 21 & 22. Minutes of the April 10th Council Meeting and the Financial Report were approved.

Trinity will be this year’s host of the 2017 Heartland District gathering. Pastor Mark Vander Tuig is scheduled to be a speaker.

Project property updates: The upstairs balcony has been painted and is ready to install carpet. The bathroom remodel is also complete.

Logan Bronson, Mike Kruse, Vern Ramaekers and Kyle Jensen were approved for the Visitation Ministry. Communion kits for all four will be distributed.

John Quincy has been hired part-time as Studio Captain and Brian Asche likewise as Balcony Captain for Tech Ministry. They are being trained by Pastor Nestor.

The meeting was adjourned and the Council joined together in prayer before going home.

The next Council meeting will be June 12, 2017, at 7:00 p.m.

On a Friday Jesus was crucified, and years later we annually commemorate our atonement of sin by His death on the cross. On Sunday Jesus rose from the dead miraculously, and now we celebrate His victory over death because it guarantees our own. After the celebration of Easter is past, most Christians probably give little thought to the significance of His ascension. After “presenting himself alive” to many of his

followers (Acts 1:3) for a period of 40 days, Jesus instructed His disciples to meet Him on the Mount of Olives. After instructing them to stay in Jerusalem until they had received the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and then having blessed them, Jesus ascended bodily and visibly into heaven. But we might ask why this is something of significance to us.

Several reasons….. 1) It established Jesus’ kingly reign over all powers in all ages. Nations and tyrants may rage in this world, but in reality Jesus is the one in control. His will is done, and history will go as He has determined.

2) Jesus’ ascension gives us access to God’s throne of mercy. Hebrews 13 tells us Jesus is our “great High

Priest” who is seated in power. It says we can now “draw near to the throne of grace” through Him to receive God’s mercy and forgiving love.

3) Jesus seated in heavenly glory and power means He is no longer bound by space and time as He was during His earthly life. His Spirit can be present and at work at any one time for many and for all. Before His death Jesus told His disciples that He must leave them so “the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, would come to them.” So while Jesus reigns in heavenly glory and is no longer bodily on this earth, His power and love are multiplied throughout the earth by His followers today who are filled with

the Holy Spirit.

4) The Ascension of Jesus set the pattern for His return. On the occasion of His ascension, two angels appeared telling the people witnessing this that Jesus would return “in the same way (they) had seen Him go into heaven,”—another promise to us of His second coming.

Jesus, currently in heaven, is the head of the church, the giver of spiritual gifts and the One who fulfills all things.

WHAT MEANING IS THERE FOR US IN THE ASCENSION OF CHRIST?

“Be Thou My Vision” is my favorite hymn. The story of this song goes back a long way—to the 5th century in Ireland. The story goes that St. Patrick was evangelizing the island when the king made a decree that no one could light a fire until a certain pagan festival had passed. Well, Patrick didn’t care for that decree, and Patrick wasn’t concerned with pagan festivals. So, he defied the king’s decree and lit a fire. Instead of getting upset, the king realized who was “first in my heart” for Patrick (that being Jesus Christ) and let him continue his evangelistic work. That little campfire led to the entire nation of Ireland converting to Christianity through Holy Spirit’s work in Patrick.

In honor of that devotion, three centuries later, a monk by the name of Dallan Forgaill wrote a poem that caught on to a traditional Irish folk tune. It eventually was translated to English and popularized in the twentieth century by Mary Elizabeth Byrne as the hymn we now sing. And it all started with a campfire.

There’s nothing better in the summer than to light a campfire, sit outside and enjoy the evening. The campfire is still a place where we share our stories, sing songs and become better acquainted with our company. At the campfire, we eat hot dogs, s’mores and moonpies!

Now, we all know there are different ways of lighting a campfire—from the type of material for the bed, to the location of the tinder and kindling wood, to even the way the wood is stacked—yet, the end result is get that fire blazing! The life of the fire is found in the

warmth and strength of the burning blaze. In the campfire, we learn what it is like to live in the light.

In 1 John 1:5, 7, we read: “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

In the burning blaze of the campfire, we are opened up to the elements of the world while being reminded of God’s blazing love for each of us. By the fire, we are shown how that love overpowers the darkness. The blazing fire is the center, and it reveals the love of God as the center of all we are. It is that love that empowers us to share with those around us. God’s love is the strongest love of all.

When we come to a campfire, there are no walls to hold us back. No one is considered an outsider. The campfire is a place we gather; it’s a place where we are open, intimate and authentic. The campfire shows us who we are to be as the church—centered on the love of God and sharing that love openly with those around us.

This summer, I hope you get to have lots of campfires. I hope they become joyous times for you. I hope they reveal to you the goodness of community. I hope you get to hear and share stories and songs from your life. And I hope they point you to see that Jesus is the light of the world—the most brilliant light of all! And you never know what those flames might spark in another’s soul.

We are “gearing up” for an imaginative, impacting adventure this summer at Maker Fun Factory! Each week includes Praise & Worship with great kid-friendly music. Bible Adventures, KidVid Cinema, Sciency-Fun Gismos, Games and Mission Projects will be some of the other activities through the summer. Every week is full of experiences that focus on one of the Bible Points of how God made you, is for you, is always with you, will always love you and made you for a reason.

Why it matters: Today’s kids are in the unique position to compare themselves to the entire world. Social media gives us all a mirror to which we compare ourselves; and it can feel like there’s always someone who’s better, prettier, smarter, more athletic, more adventurous and just all-around more! In our first session we help kids set aside the mirror.

This summer we want kids to discover not only that God made them the way they are, but for a purpose too.

Bring your kids and their friends. Each week is a stand-alone session where guests fit in perfectly. If you know of a family who is seeking God, offer to bring their children.

Our Breakout Mission Team will be

leading every activity in Summer Sundays on June 4

th as they engage kids in the Bible book

of Genesis where God lovingly creates people. They have also been working on Praise & Worship and Silly Skits where they emphasize the Bible Point in creative ways.

Thanks to these young people and their leaders for their investment of time and energy as they prepare to kick off Summer Sundays with enthusiasm before they head out on mission work with the Orphan Grain Train and Mercy Meals.

Children’s Ministry continues on Sunday mornings during the summer with a different format and a different ministry team. If you enjoy kids and are looking for a place to serve, call the Church Office (564-8547)and ask for Glenda.

Even by serving just a Sunday or two, you can impact lives for Christ right here in your own community!

As part of Summer Sundays, our Children’s

Ministries will participate in an Operation

Kid-to-Kid mission project that gives kids

a chance to help children in remote villages of Peru have access to safe, clean drinking water.

Not only will donations fund effective wells, but the dollars will also allow teams to share the life-changing message of God’s love and forgiveness.

Just $5 will provide clean water for one child for an entire year!

Every coin and dollar children bring this summer will be donated to this mission.
