REPERTOIRE (10 minute performance) Perform from memory two solo pieces of contrasting style selected from two different musical eras. The jury reserves the right to cut performance time should the pieces performed run beyond the 10 minute time limit. Representative pieces and levels of repertoire difficulty: Baroque Era: prelude and/or fugue from Bach’s Well- Tempered Clavier; invention, sinfonia, or movement from a French suite, English suite, or partita by Bach; sonata by Scarlatti. Classical Era: movement from a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven (no repeats taken). Romantic Era: impromptu, nocturne, prelude, etude, waltz, mazurka, polonaise, scherzo, ballade, intermezzo, rhapsody, movement of sonata, movement(s) from large-scale character piece by Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Tschaikovsky, Grieg. Contemporary Era: movement or work by Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, Ginastera, Turina, Albéniz, Bartok, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Kapustin, Copland, Gershwin. SIGHTREADING (1 minute performance assessment) Be able to sightread a short excerpt from an advanced-elementary to early-intermediate level piece. Representative level of excerpts: Bach, Minuet in G from Little Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach; Schumann, Album for the Young; Kabalevsky, Children’s Pieces. A MUSIC THEORY PLACEMENT TEST will be administered immediately following the piano audition. Testing is solely for the purpose of determining student placement in the appropriate level of theory study once enrollment has been finalized.
