    Apartfromtherootsurface,microbialbiofilmsarealsoreportedonthephyllosphereandvasculature,especiallybypathogenicmicroorganisms(Torresetal.,2006).Forexample,thepathogenicityofXylellafastidiosa,whichcausesPierce'sdiseaseofgrapesandcitrusfruits,hasbeenattributedtoitsabilitytoformextensivebiofilms,therebyblockingtheplantvasculature(Torresetal.,2006).

    Phyto-Zymepromotesastructuralbreakdown(solubilisation)ofexcessivebiofilmgrowththatcanaccumulateonrootsurfacesthusprotectingplantrootstructuresformexcessivebiofilmgrowththatcancontributetotheproliferationofpathogenicmicroorganisms.

    Pythium:

    Phyto-Zymeprovidesanenvironmentalcleaningactionwithinhydroponicsystems,controllingbio-filmbuildup(slime)onsurfacesandonroots,reducingbacterialbuildupalongwithanacceleratedbreakdownoforganicmaterialsinsolutionthuspreventingrootclogging(slime)and(Pythium)rootrotandstemrotfungusspecies(includingPythium,Verticillium,andPhytophthora,andFusarium)fromproliferatinginbiofilmonrootsurfaces,Minimizingbiofilmbuilduponrootsurfacesalsoallowsrootstoabsorbavailablenutrientsmoreefficiently.

    Phyto-Zymedoesnotkillbacteria.Instead,itcreatesaninhospitablePythium(Rootrot)environmentforthePythiumbacteriabycleaningtherootsandothersurfacesof

    excessbiofilm(slime).Phyto-Zymecontrolsexcessbiofilmbuildup,thusreducingpathogenicbacterialcolonisationontheroots,alsoremovingbacterialfoodsources(organics)insolutionfurtherreducingunhealthylevelsofbacteriainhydroponictypesystems.

    Casestudieshavedemonstratedsurfactantscankillthebacteria(Pythium)thatcauserootrot.Phyto-Zymecontainsasmallamountofahighlyspecializedenvironmentallyfriendlysurfactant;thisprovidesmultiplefunctionsinhydroponicsystemsandothergrowmediums.

    OneofthemostimportantfunctionsofPhyto-Zymeisitsabilitytoactasawettingagentthatcleanstherootsystemassistinginnutrientuptakeallowingtherootsystemtofunctionat100%nutrientabsorptioncapacity.

    Nitrogen:

    Plantstakenitrogenfromthesoil,byabsorptionthroughtheirrootsintheformofeithernitrateionsor

    ammoniumionsforincorporationintoaminoacids,nucleicacids,andchlorophyll.

    Nitrogenistheonenutrientmostoftenlimitingplantgrowth.Soilmicroorganismsreleasenitrogentied-upinorganicmatteroveraperiodoftime.
