Environmental Specifications

IntroductionEnvironmental specifications are all of the physical specifications for a piece ofequipment.Whenbuildinganetwork,aserverroom,aswitchcloset,orevenamidsizedatacenter,youmusttakethreethingsintoconsideration:power,cooling,andracking.Togetstarted,considerthesequestions:

• Howmuchpowerdoestheequipmentuse?

• Whatkindofcoolingisrequired?

• Whatsizeisthehardware?Thatis,howdeepistheequipment,andhowmanyrackunitsdoesitoccupy?

• Howheavyisit?Willyouneedalifttosafelyinstallit?

Thisguidehelpsyouanswerthesequestions.Eachsectiondescribestheequipment’scompleteenvironmentalspecificationssothatyoucanplanyoursites.Thisallowsyoutofullyplanfortheequipment’sinstallationandfocusonconfiguringthearchitecture.Thisguideisdividedintothefollowingsections:
