We set off from Chalong Bay on a large yellow boat, a color chosen to represent the bees. We were quite impressed with amenities on board which consisted of a bar, sun deck, lounge area and kitchen where scrumptious food is prepared.

This morning, we met up at Sea Bees Diving office in Chalong Bay and started preparing necessary equipment for the days trip. The office is nicely decorated and has a display of ancient dive equip-ment and its fascinating history. Also present are many trophies and certifi-cates to ensure clients that they are in expert hands.

Raja Yai Island was the first destination of the day and everyone was excited at the thought of experiencing the corals and marine life up close. We were able to spot some starfish, eels and squid almost immediately.

King -cruiser Ferry

At the King Cruiser dive site, the focal point was the ferry which sank here. Nearby, we could see fields of soft corals, different sorts of funny looking fish and some pretty large squids.

Anemone Reef

For the Anemone Reef, this spot consist of a large rock boulder covered with colorful anemones. Occasionally, a group of leopard sharks would make their appearance to make things even more exciting.

Shark Point

I now realize that sometimes, in order to experience the most amazing features of Mother Nature, one has to go underwater; and its all right here in Thailands Andaman Sea.

Sometimes, the really lucky ones will even get to swim alongside a whale-shark.

Shark Point is an area marked by rock formation sticking up in the middle of the sea and also the spot reputed to be the best diving area in Phuket. All kinds of interesting marine dwellers can be seen here, some very large in size and some so tiny they were hardly visible.

The morning mist during the year end may be thick but thats not a problem for us because we love it. Right now, our hearts are set on going to KorKhao Island in Taguapa, Phang-Nga where we will arrive soon after the large ferry departs from Baan NaamKhem Pier.

The ferry which transports both humans and their cars between the main land and KorKhao Island is a service much appreciated by tourists and locals alike. In addition, there are smaller boats for carrying people to and from the island throughout the day at very reasonable prices.

In just ten minutes, we arrived at this small island and noticed that most of the visitors are for-eigners. Looking around, it felt wonderful to be surrounded by greenery, the lovely beach, the beautiful ocean with the clear blue sky above our heads.

We drove gingerly to the northern most part of the island where Nok Na Beach is located. The scenic beach is lined with pine trees which gives the whole thing quite a relaxing vibe. A bit further away, we can see a little sign which says Hula Beach.

Without waiting for anyone to invite us in, we were already splashing around in the shallow water like little children. After a while, we decided to take a stroll along the soft sand beach and catch the refreshing draftblowing in.

Sunset beach

We soon came upon the nearby Sunset Beach and were impressed by a vision of paradise. Though it is well-frequented by tourists from overseas, the natural surrounding seems to be well preserved.

Nok Na Beach is long and covered with amazing pow-dery sand. The atmosphere is serene, with some occasional tourists enjoying sun bathing and taking a dip in the water.

It was said that long ago, KorKhao Island was an important trading post; so we went out to look for traces of its flourishing past at Baan Tung Tuk area. Here, visitors can still see a few traces of what went on; and a few lucky ones have even found beautiful beads from that period. Those who appreciate history will enjoy the visit very much.

There is also an Airport Field on the island. The villagers told us that this large, open field surrounded by pine trees is a site where an airport was supposed to be built. Now, years have gone by but still no sign of an airport yet.

We enjoyed seeing and taking photos of different floras and faunas, open fields and ponds along both sides of the roads, especially the pond with rare miniature lotuses that spread small, white flowers all over. We also found many Venus Fly Traps, the insect-eating plants here, which indicates how fertile the forest still is.

The length from north to south end of the island is about 20 kilometers long and visitors seem to be having a great time hopping from beach to beach on their bicycles or motorbikes. The general atmosphere on KorKhaoIsland is peaceful, with an occasional resort and giftshop here and there.

There is also fresh seafood to feast your appetite, all served along with genuine smiles of the locals. But most important of all is the communitys effort in trying to implement eco-tourism on the island to preserve and ensure stability of its natural resources.

On this relaxing day, we took a 4-5 hour road trip from Phuket to Trang, a place on the Not-to-be-missed list. First thing to do here is to take a frog-headed tuk tuk ride (a symbol of this province) and explore the citys age-old architecture which has flourished from past to present.

The funny-looking tuk tuk took us to many must see attractions including the highly respected shrine of Yia Giu Ong Ia and Sino-Portuguese style buildings like the ones in Phuket. There were also a hundred-year old Christian church, clock tower, Dugong roundabout and the charming railway station.

Another not-to-be-missed is the Kantang Railway Station built during King Rama 6th reign over a hundred years ago. Recently registered as a historical attraction by the Department of Fine Arts, this station is the southern-most on the Andaman side. Its unique single story wood building is painted in a classic mustard yellow and brown. At the front, ornate wood carvings adorn the pillars and distinct old style doors of that period can still be seen.

The area surrounding the train station consists of a lovely garden and coffee house called Love Station. Be sure to take a picture with the Kantang Station sign to remind you that once, you have made it to the southernmost station on the Andaman side.

Next, we went to Mod Tanoi (Ant) Beach with picturesque view of Libong Island, home to the dugongs (the symbol of Trang). The atmosphere here is very romantic, ideal for taking a stroll with a loved one.

And definitely not-to-be-missed is the amazing tour around Trangs heavenly islands. We started early at 9am as the tour itinerary covers Koh Kradan, Koh Mook and Morrakot (Emer-ald) Cave which are all part of the Unseen Thailand campaign.

Our first stop was at Koh Kradan where we were so awe-stricken by the beauty of the corals reefs that lie before us.

Adding more colors to the scenery was a multitude of fishes that swam around us in frenzy. They came in a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, sizes and characters. There were some shy Moray Eels and of course, the clown fish hovering above sea anemones that were the stars of the show. They were so cute that we had to take pictures to show friends.

After we were satisfied exploring the wondrous underwater world, it was time to enjoy some beauty on land. The beach on Kradan Island is picturesque and no one was going to miss out on taking snapshots in various funny positions.

Next, we headed to the north side of Mook Island to view more exotic corals that spread their branches among rocky boulders. It was a beautiful sight that we will never forget.

The fun continues at Emerald Cave where we were required to huddle up in a row while passing through an 800 meter long cave. After floating around in total darkness, we reached the inner lagoon with water that sparkled like emer-alds when hit by sunlight.

I took a rest on the small beach in the lagoon while some friends enjoyed a swim in the clear water. It was the perfect setting for taking pictures; no wonder this spot is on the list of Unseen Thailand.
