Course Description: Participation in youth sports affords the adolescent athlete a unique opportunity for physical and emotional growth, but it is not without risk. Topics for 2011 Coaches’ Clinic: common orthopedic and neurological injuries of the young athlete, vitamin D and its effect on performance, efficacy of stretching for performance improvement, performance anxiety in athletics, review ACL jump training programs, “hands-on” taping lab for ankle and wrist.

Saturday, April 16th: Lecture 8:00am – 4:30pm

Morning Session: Concussions and head injuries in sport, cervical and thoracic spine injuries.

(Lunch will be provided)

Afternoon Session: Orthopedic concerns and injuries with hockey, injuries in the adolescent athlete related to the hip, knee, and shoulder, discussion of conservative vs. surgical decisions for common sports injuries. Sunday, April 17th: Lecture 8am- 2:30pm (Continental Breakfast)

Morning Session: Efficacy of stretching for performance, cross sectional review of ACL jump programs, Performance anxiety in sports, vitamin “D” and performance, hydration, sport and energy drinks. (Light snacks provided)

Afternoon Session: Taping session on ankle and wrist. Open Panel Review.
