About Martin Parr:Martin Parr was born on 23rd May 1952 in
Epsom, Surrey. He is a British
Documentary Photographer. He is well
known for his photographic projects
that take a critical look at modern
society , foreign travel and tourism,
family and relationships and foods.
Martin Parr wanted to become a
photographer since he was 14 yrs.
old. From the year 1970-1973 he
studied photography at Manchester
Polytechnic which is now called
Manchester Metropolitan University.
He got married in 1980 to Susan
Mitchell and has a daughter named
Ellen Parr.
5 Chosen Images:On this photo I like how he has
managed to capture the filters of
the used cigarettes. I think it is
good that he has managed to
capture them and also in different
sizes. The cigarettes are all
balanced out in there own
positions and I like how he used
the format landscape because, it
really shows a wide range of the
cigarettes.
Now this photo I like this because of
how he has taken it. I like how the
camera just focused on the brioche
and also because of the sprinkles
the brioche stands out really well.
I also like the technique he used
on this photo which is simplicity
and also maybe foreground
interest because the image is so
simple and yet we know that the
main focus is the brioche bread.
I like this photo because of the
colour. I like how the kids are
balanced together and how the
colour of what they ‘re wearing
makes the image stand out more.
I like the background because it
makes the image look kind of old.
Like it’s been taken from a long
time ago. In this photo I see one
of the rules of composition and
that’s balance because the
children make the image really
balance out.
I find this photo really interesting
because you can see quiet a lot of
different activities happening at
the same time and that’s one of
the reasons why I like this photo.
It isn’t just based on one
movement or activity within the
image. There’s the couples who is
sat down on the bench, the little
baby on the trolley and the lady
pointing somewhere. I also like
the colour of the image because it
makes it look a little retro and
vintage and I think that images
with that type of colour is very
good.
This photo stands out in my eyes
because it looks retro. This photo
was probably taken back in 1980’s
and I just like how he has
combined all the colours together
and the things as well. The photo
looks really balanced out. On this
photo he has used the format
portrait to capture the length of
the big umbrella and also the
width of it. The two beach chairs
really make the image more
interesting.
