Rule of thirds.
4 lines, 9 areas Where is the horizon?
1/3rd up from the bottom line or..
2/3rds up.
Human eye naturally leads to the intersection points (place objects there!)
Rule of thirds.
Look at it.
‘Analyze this’ What is the first
question you think of? Where is it? Who is this girl? Why are they crying? Why soldiers? …and many more.
Grab attention by raising the questions…
‘Analyze this’ Vietnamese village being
bombed by aerial napalm attack by Southern Vietnamese Air Forces. 1972.
The ‘Nerve bomb’ – girl’s skin is peeling at the back..
…Southern Vietnamese or American?...
Grab attention by leaving the questions…
What makes a great photographer? Innovative Works always appear fresh (even though it
can be 50 years old) Shoots pictures UNLIKE anyone else Takes us somewhere new
‘Be original or die.’ - Madame Yevonde, pioneer of colour portraiture
‘Seeing things’
Search for new viewpoints
Look at things as if through a viewfinder
Prepare for the unexpected…(if you go photograph pigeons on Trafalgar square, and there is a demonstration going around…forget the pigeons!!)
Thinking as a viewer
Would it grab your attention? Would you ask questions about it? Would it make you smile/frown/shocked…? Would it make you wonder what
happened/will happen after?
If at least one answer is ‘yes’ – PRESS THE SHUTTER!
Inspiration.
