The Land of Scenery Shook Relentlessly

The earth moved as never before…

TWO-THIRD of the total area of Pakistan is on fault lines that cause tremor any time. The experts have expressed fears that ignoring the fault lines while making big structures in cities may cause huge loss to life and property.

Roads were ripped apart

Mother nature brought down everything

On October 8th 2005 a devastating earthquake hit the northern part of Pakistan. With the death toll

around ninety thousand. Currently 3 million people are still homeless.

There were over 50, 000 dead

There was no where to go

There was no shoulders to lean against

Many survived…but just barely

Faces were enough to tell the story

Even the clouds looked distant

People were still coming down from the mountains trying to find shelter and were suffering from trauma. Winter was on the way and the need for shelter was urgent.

Some too alone to to share anything

Some too pained to cry

There were endless hands raised for help

Schools need better foundations

Most earthquake-related deaths are caused by the collapse of structures and the construction practices play a tremendous role in the death toll of an earthquake.

Building practices can make all the difference in earthquakes, even a moderate rupture beneath a city with structures unprepared for shaking can produce tens of thousands of casualties.
