Zara Yaffe – Photo Diary Music Video Production - Photo Diary The music video my group and I have produced has many different type of shots within it, including two shots, reaction shots, close up, tacking shots, long shots and a lot of others. We used different angles to film different shots in order to add variation to the music video. The shot is a hand-held high angle shot taken in the park. This is where the actresses are walking up the stairs in the park. We chose to do this hand-held shot in order to almost track what is happening. It gave a more real feel to the clip. It was kind of as though someone was looking down from above at the two actresses. Some shots, such as this one, did have to be re- recorded. This is due to the fact it was very out of focus and also the ‘real feel’ given to it by holding the camera didn’t look professional. When the clips had been uploaded to the computer and seen on a bigger screen, they looked like they were jerking and weren’t still at all. This was very hard to look at and almost made the viewer dizzy. This was therefore re-recorded in order to make our video to the highest standards possible. The new shot looked clear as it was more focused and didn’t move so much as it was placed on a tripod. This then gave the music video a more professional look, which is what I was aiming for.

Music Video Production - Photo Diary

The music video my group and I have produced has many different type of shots within it, including two shots, reaction shots, close up, tacking shots, long shots and a lot of others.

Some shots, such as this one, did have to be re-recorded. This is due to the fact it was very out of focus and also the ‘real feel’ given to it by holding the camera didn’t look professional. When the clips had been uploaded to the computer and seen on a bigger screen, they looked like they were

jerking and weren’t still at all.

This picture shows me holding the camera recording a tracking shot. I feel that this is one of the best shots in the entire music video. It is a lot less false than some of the shots because the other actress was actually smiling at me and it wasn’t fake or just acting. The tracking shot could also be seen as a point of view shot as it is in my point of view, looking at the actress. Our group chose to record this clip like this because it’s a lot more realistic than most other shots, and gives a different angle and

shot type to almost all of the other clips we had recorded. In hindsight, I do see that this possibly wasn’t the safest option of recording this shot – although it did come out as one of the best. It had a clear focus and shows the realism of the relationship between the two actresses. The natural lighting also, in my opinion, made the footage clearer and in focus. I think this because it was naturally bright and didn’t need a yellow light to brighten it up, which would then need editing, colour correcting and so forth.

This picture shows Kendell filming one of the actresses leaving the house. This is a shot that had to be re-filmed. This is due to the fact we originally filmed it on its side, making the footage landscape when the rest of the entire footage was portrait. There was no reason for this and therefore it was time consuming to have to re-film something again. I feel that this did waste time which could have been spent doing other things, especially when we were tight on time in the first place. When we re-filmed it, the picture had a much better focus than it originally did and the lighting was a lot clearer too. This makes the music video a much higher quality and of a professional standard. Using a tripod also, in my opinion, makes the footage much better visually. I think this because otherwise the camera moves without you realising because you’re holding it. Therefore it becomes unfocused as it can’t focus on one certain point when it’s constantly moving about. The improvements we made by using a tripod made our footage a much higher quality.

This photo shows Kendell filming a mid shot of me. In hindsight, the lighting in this shot wasn’t the best. There was no way around this problemn we faced due to the fact this room is nbaturally dark, no matter if the curtains are open or not. If it was up to me, I would have used a tripod in order to keep the camera steady rather than having it

handheld. Although it didn’t look bad when it was held by Kendell, I feel like there would have been a clearer focus than there already was which would improve the overall quality of the shot and music video. The mid shot, in my opinion, was better than filming a long shot. This is due to the fact that if it was a long shot, you would not have been able to see my

reaction when the text came through on my phone. I feel like this particular shot adds a lot more to the video. It’s similar to real emotion that a viewer can relate to when they’re

texting someone.

In this picture you can see Kendell filming myself and the other actress walking out of the park. For this, we used a long shot. I think this added variation in shots to the music video because most of them were either mid shot or close ups. I think this keeps the viewer more interested rather than constantly looking at the torso upwards of the actresses. For this, there was natural lighting which I feel made the shots a lot clearer. I think a problem we faced is that on the first day of filming it was very hot and therefore I was able to wear a skirt and cooler clothes, but on this particular day in the picture, it was a lot colder. Because of this, I think that I do not match the weather conditions and it could possibly look slightly perculiar because I am wearing a skirt in cold weather. Also,m when filming I was very cold and had to put a coat on every time I was not in front of the camera. Although this wasn’t too much of a difficulty, it did begin to get rather irritating when I was shivering in front of the camera. Another problem we faced in the park was passerbys. We got a lot of funny looks from those actually using this park with their children, as though they didn’t want their children or themselves to be caught on camera. We continued to do our work peacefully, but looking back I feel like we should have reassured those that were nervous around us that no footage of them would be filmed.

This is a screenshot of the restauarant scenes in the music video I produced. I could not upload a picture because Kendell did not turn up on 2 out of 4 of

the days that we filmed as she had other plans that were her priority, rather than this work. We had to carry on without Kendell which was difficult for us as we knew that we wouldn’t have pictures for the photodiary, and we also worried that she wouldn’t have as much to write about in her evaluation. We then realised that this would not be a problem for us, but for her. We proceeded as normal because it is not our issue to dwell on, and she would face her own issues with this. Reece then filmed the restauarant scenes as I couldn’t be behind the camera as well as in front of it, obviously. We received a bill as well as dirty plates from the restauarant in order to make these shots as realistic as possible. I feel that this footage went well and came out on the camera well. Some shots needed to be re-filmed, such as paying for the food and walking into the restaurant. These were then organised speedily and done as soon as possible.
