David Hockney• He was born in July 9th 1937 in Bradford, England, he won a

scholar ship in 1948, The Bradford Grammar School which is where he decided he wanted to become an artist. In 1950 he moved to the Regional College of Art in order to study his interest but was not allowed to join until 1953 as his old school wanted him to complete his education. David also spent sometime in New York where he befriended the famous Andy Warhol

• Hockney traveled to Europe in June of 1967 with his boyfriend who he featured in many of his works, this is when Hockney’s interest in photography started to grow, in the 1970’s his relationship started to break down and ended as his partner said he devoted his life more to art then him.

Photography

• In the ‘80’s Hockney became fascinated with making photo collages

• He used Polaroid pictures to create his first collages then he started to use colour printers

• David was happy that his art had little value as all he wanted to do was share it with others

The Chair This photo montage is of a green chair on a sand coloured stone background. The image shows the chair from various different combined angles of the chair making the legs point inwards giving the chair a more interesting edge.My opinion of this image is that I like it rather a lot as it’s fun and quirky and would be something that I may want to try in the future.

The desk - 1984This photo collage is of a desk with various books and other household items, giving it a more individual sense. This image could have many meanings, the clutter of modern day life, or maybe that everything is beautiful if you just look twiceMy opinion on this is one of enchantment as it leads you deep into thought about what's in the book and why is it there.

My motherThis joiner is of Hockney’s mother sat in a church graveyard wearing a rain coat whilst looking rather unhappy. There could be many meanings to this, the fact that his elderly mother is sat in a graveyard is slightly sinister .My opinion is rather mixed, as the composition is clever but as I mentioned above it’s slightly odd.

David HockneyThis joiner is a self portrait of David Hockney himself. This is one of my favourite peaces of his work as it’s so three dimensional and interesting, showing various expressions and emotions.

This image was inspired by David Hockney

I couldn’t find the artists name, but I really like the colour and use of technique in this

This is my own take on his ideas.
