First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your
faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I
serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son…
Romans 1:8-9
In 2011, I visited Wittenberg, Germany and attended the Saturday night service in the Town Church, St Mary’s, where, in the 1500’s, The Great Reformer, Dr. Martin Luther preached. If you didn’t know, the Wittenberg English Ministry (WEM) that started in 1996 offers visitors to Lutherstadt (Luther Town) Wittenberg, English-speaking worship opportunities. Being a visiting pastor I was asked to read one of the lessens that evening. I was moved by the experience and wanted to be one of the pastors who serve for two weeks as a Pastor in Residence in Wittenberg, Germany.
I signed up and was told the earliest I could be slotted was in 2018. By now some of you have heard that this situation has changed. I was contacted in early July by the new Executive Dir, Rev. Robert Flohrs, and asked if I was still interested in serving in Wittenberg. Of course I said yes!. Earlier this week (7/20) I was informed that Oct 4th to Oct 18th, 2016 is when I will be the Pastor in Residence in the English Speaking ministry in Wittenberg! This will mean that in October 2016, I will be gone for almost the entire month as I add some vacation time to the end of the residency.
I’d like to share some information about this ministry. The Wittenberg English Ministry (WEM) offers English-speaking worship opportunities at the Castle Church and St. Mary’s Town Church on Saturday evening with worship services at 5:00 -6:00 pm alternating weekly between the Castle Church and the Town Church, as well as mid-week chapel services on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm in the Corpus Christi Kapelle (built ca. 1368) in the south courtyard of the Town Church.
These special programs of Worship in the English language provide spiritual fulfillment for the many thousands English-speaking tourists who visit Lutherstadt Wittenberg from all parts of the world as well as being an inroad into reaching the German people of Wittenberg who want to improve their English and at the same time hear the Good News we share in Jesus Christ. Other duties would involve
Devotional Services for groups by special request, Emergence Pastoral Care in English and assistance to English-speaking tourist/pilgrims. A busy two weeks!!!
As of the July WEM newsletter, guests come from India, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Canada, Denmark, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Germany, Hong Kong and South Korea. From the USA they came from Iowa, California, Arkansas, Oregon, Texas, New Jersey, Alaska, Washington D.C. and Florida. This is just a sample of whom the Lord brings to the worship services.
“We’re Lutheran – how wonderful to attend an English service in one of Martin Luther’s churches” was one of several comments from people who have worshipped so far in 2015.
As you might guess, I’m excited to be going and I thank the Church Council for working with the vacation adjustments that were needed between this year and next. I also want to thank you in advance for the prayers and support I will need in this ministry opportunity.

Christmas Craft Fair & Open House Saturday, November 14 – 9 am to 2 pm
Greetings from HOT and HUMID (but you can't shovel humidity!) Missouri!
We are settling in, box by box, and even enjoying it! My brother and his family, and
our son from Nevada and his family were with us for several days in July. It was a noisy,
laughter-filled time, and it went much too quickly!
I am planning a visit to south- west Missouri shortly to see my mom. How nice that it will only take about 4 hours instead of
ten! We are also planning a long weekend for her to come and visit us in St. Charles!
I am loving taking care of our adorable granddaughter, Adley,
while her mommy works three days a week. We are also enjoying
babysitting when mommy and daddy need a night out. Being able to worship with them on Sundays is a
great blessing too!
Things are just familiar enough to get me in trouble. I use my GPS a lot to help me get around. On the 4th of July we got together with old friends, just like we used to. And speaking of the 4th, our neighborhood lit up ... no need to go to
the riverfront for fireworks!
I am sending a few pictures of our home. God really led us to the
right one. We enjoy it a lot and I know it will be easy to have friends and family over.
I do miss seeing all of you. I asked Kate to put me on the list so I can keep up with all The "goings on" at GDLC. Take care.
Blessings, Jeannie

2015 LifeTouch Pictorial Directory We are again producing a pictorial directory for our church. There is no cost to you or to the church to have your photograph taken, and you will receive a complimentary 8x10 portrait and directory
for participating. Our photography dates are Thursday, August 20, (1-8 pm); Friday, Aug 21 (1-8 pm), and Saturday, Aug 23 (11-5 pm). You will be able to view your
images electronically immediately after you are photographed. At that time, you will have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits to share with family and friends. We look forward to “seeing you in pictures!”
Volunteers To make our directory a success we need volunteers. Verlayne Sather is coordinating the volunteers for our new directory. If you are interested in helping during our photography sign-ups, telephoning our members, or serving as a host or hostess during the actual photography sessions contact Verlayne or call the church office.
Photography Appointment Signup Next Sunday will begin the sign-up process for photography and portrait viewing sessions. You can go on line to our church website www.gloriadeilcms.org and click on the link to sign-up or bring your calendar and stop by the table in the Entryway to sign-up. Early sign-ups will get the first choice of times!
Feed the Need Announcement Lifetouch is partnering with us to have a food drive during our photography sign-ups. They are asking families to bring in a non-perishable food item for our local food shelf. They will in turn give you a $5.00 off certificate to thank you for your donation. In addition, a $10.00 certificate is sent to families that sign-up online via a reminder e-mail. Lifetouch knows not everyone has an email address or access to the internet. They are automatically offering the certificate to everyone, should you choose to purchase. In summary, every family will receive a $15.00 coupon discount, should they choose to purchase.
